Do we fancy a full on civil war? Have we all gone completely mad? This is democracy? AIBU to say this is several steps too far?

Today’s the day democracy was dealt a crippling wound.

No, it really hasn’t.

Yeah, in the UK it has. Parliament being denied its right to sit for nearly 5 weeks in the middle of an enormous political crisis.

Just look at how it's being reported across Europe.

shearwater · 28/08/2019 15:32

I voted remain and find the whole thing appalling. But before we all lose our heads, doesn't this technically just mean 4 fewer days when parliament is in session than there would have been?

What a brilliant move! Well done Boris and your minions.

I never wanted to leave the EU and this will stop anyone trying to interfere in the due process. Grin

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:37

@Cheeseoncrumpets

What a dreadful thing to wish on anyone - you should be ashamed of yourself!

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:37

@ContinuityError

Well said!

Jillyhilly · 28/08/2019 15:38

Just look at how it's being reported across Europe.

Oh well, if it’s been reported in that way across Europe then it must be true. Hmm

BiBiBirdie · 28/08/2019 15:40

Boris is the epitome of what happens when someone is privileged and has literally sailed through life, not a care or worry in the world, clicking his fingers and getting his own way. Look at the man, he's a fat, bumbling, thick as mince twit and he shags anything with a pulse, is currently shagging some young, pretty thing who wouldn't look twice at him if he was off an estate and in trackies. If he makes mistakes, his money and position has got him off.
Christ, he's been proved a liar and sacked from every job going and still, still got voted in to run the bastard country, a country which, even whilst not in power he has helped destroy.
And the sad fact is, I genuinely think he would get voted in as everyone is made to think he's a loose cannon, he just like us, he fucks up bit gets up and tries again.
The intelligent amongst is know he's a prick, but sadly, there are a lot of DM and Sun reading morons out there who believe everything they are spoon fed.

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:42

@BiBiBirdie

Yes - and this is just the kind of person who can save our country

Alsohuman · 28/08/2019 15:43

And the stupidity of you and your ilk is why we’re in this mess @Jillyhilly.

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:43

Boris had to do this to stop Jeremy - he has done the right thing because Corbin would have tried to stop Brexit from going ahead.

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:45

Just reading the Daily Fail

Bahlindah · 28/08/2019 15:45

Our rotten country is in such a fucking mess. I'm a Remainer who is pretty resigned to Brexit happening...but in these circumstances though? What a terrible, outrageous blow to democracy.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 28/08/2019 15:46

Yes Jesaminecollins, you keep on believing the narrative that Jeremy Corbyn is the bogey man!

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:47

@Bahlindah

This is the only thing Boris could do to get us out of this mess

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:48

@Cheeseoncrumpets

I don't believe he is the bogey man but I do believe he is stuck back in the 70s and we certainly don't him in charge of our country because it would be disastrous for everyone if he became PM

Alsohuman · 28/08/2019 15:48

The tiny little shred of optimism I have left is hoping that this is where his arrogance has led him to over reach himself. Maybe, just maybe, any wavering Tory MP will now vote against the government in a vote of no confidence and all the opposition parties will temporarily unite to kick Boris and his mates into touch for good.

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:48

don't want him in charge

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:49

@Alsohuman

That will never happen

Bahlindah · 28/08/2019 15:50

Today’s the day democracy was dealt a crippling wound.

No, it really hasn’t

An unelected PM preventing our elected MPs from having a meaningful say on the most important issue to face our country in generations. It's disgusting. How far we have fallen.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 28/08/2019 15:50

I'm a Remainer who is pretty resigned to Brexit happening...but in these circumstances though? What a terrible, outrageous blow to democracy

I am someone who voted remain as opposed to considering myself a remainer but yes i agree completely

edsheeranpaidmoretaxthanccola · 28/08/2019 15:53

No Deal and then a GE will be held and Tories will lose - Labour will have to manage the shitstorm. In the meantime GFA is fucked and and and

Bahlindah · 28/08/2019 15:54

This is the only thing Boris could do to get us out of this mess
Of course it isn't. And it's parliament's mess to fix anyway.

And if we're willing to chuck democracy out the window like this, then that's a far bigger problem than even a no deal Brexit.

I can't understand how anyone can back this move, however they voted in the referendum. Its traitorous.

Alsohuman · 28/08/2019 15:55

@Jesaminecollins, an awful lot of things have happened in the last three years that people have blithely assured us never would. Have you seen how angry MPs of all parties are about this? Boris has no majority.

Jesaminecollins · 28/08/2019 15:55

@edsheeranpaidmoretaxthancola

Labour will never get back in power - so don't even let that enter your head
