Do we fancy a full on civil war? Have we all gone completely mad? This is democracy? AIBU to say this is several steps too far?

Queen can't really say no can she.. she is supposed to be 'above politics'

Missingstreetlife · 28/08/2019 10:56

Hippo why n discuss it? Plenty of threads about inlaws and dodgy husbands. This is important too

Whoseagooddoggiethen · 28/08/2019 10:58

What are the chances of the queen telling him to go fuck himself?

ChicCroissant · 28/08/2019 10:58

I shouldn't be surprised really, but I am. The EU hates Boris from his journalism days and there is no way they would negotiate with him. He hasn't got an answer to the backstop issue and is incapable of coming up with a deal. So as usual he's going to cheat his way through it.

LillithsFamiliar · 28/08/2019 11:01

YABU to start another thread about this rather than posting on the one that already exists and you are being foolish to think this would lead to civil war.
Honestly the hysteria on these threads make me wonder if MN is being targeted by a particularly emotional but incoherent pressure group.
I miss the old days when the average MNer seemed to have quite a good understanding of history and politics, rather than relying on Twitter soundbites.

Tonnerre · 28/08/2019 11:01

He can't let Brexit slide past 31st October as he'd be finished before he started.

People keep saying this, but I really question it. The vote was procured by known fraud and therefore can't be regarded as sacrosanct, and there is so much evidence that the electorate is actually firmly in favour of revoking Article 50.

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 11:02

Speaker calls it "an outrage". It ain't over.

timshelthechoice · 28/08/2019 11:04

Sorry, but I'm no Tory, but who wants Corbyn as PM? NFW!

bellinisurge · 28/08/2019 11:06

Corbyn's a twat but as much as I despise him, I despise No Deal even more.

redredrobins · 28/08/2019 11:09

The idea of a right wing coup is laughable, there is already a silent left wing coup, which has been going on for years, as MPs have been trying to stop the will of the people to leave the EU.

usernamepinched · 28/08/2019 11:09

This could finish the old girl off (misses point of thread)

Iggly · 28/08/2019 11:09

To be honest, we’ve been fed a load of spin about Corbyn. And people believe it. How many people have actually tried to find out some proper facts as opposed to relying on sound bites about him being an extreme lefty?

I know I haven’t but I’ve got enough sense to not swallow it.

But a vote for Labour isnt just about Corbyn. Read the bloody manifestos and see what policies are proposed instead.

longwayoff · 28/08/2019 11:11

Lilith, your ignorance is inexcusable.

redredrobins · 28/08/2019 11:11

" the old girl" is probably the most knowledgeable person in the country regarding the constitution.

usernamepinched · 28/08/2019 11:13

Don't doubt it for one minute, but she's 93.

Pat123dev · 28/08/2019 11:15

Ergh,
It’s the uncertainty that’s suffocating!
Corbyn is a wishy washy k#£b. If he gets to prime minister, then we’re doomed!

redredrobins · 28/08/2019 11:16

93 with no signs that she is intellectually compromised. I think we are about to see why a constitutional monarchy is worthwhile.

ginswinger · 28/08/2019 11:17

Civil war need not be organised, remember the rioting in 2011? That happened swiftly and spread fast over the UK. Imagine a more prolonged event starting with marches and turning into rioting and escalating.

I understand we are low on police numbers too so before anyone starts ridiculing the ideal of civil war, look to the many examples and occurences throughout seemingly civilised societies, Send in the army? They may side with the remainers?

Democracy? What a joke. A democracy would be a peoples vote now we know what we are actually voting for.

beccarocksbaby · 28/08/2019 11:19

Surely the Queen will refuse?

She can't really, her power is only really theoretical. She's a figure head with no power.

If she refused the country would be screaming about why an unelected figurehead is making decisions which effect the entire country.

Oh the irony.

MindyStClaire · 28/08/2019 11:21

@Bunglefromrainbow Had a full on LOL at civil War. This is the UK, we won't even organise a decent protest march never mind start a civil war.

The last civil war in the UK only ended just over 20 years ago, and the peace is still fragile. If Johnson would like to see that civil war resume, he's doing an excellent job of achieving it.

53rdWay · 28/08/2019 11:25

I miss the old days when the average MNer seemed to have quite a good understanding of history and politics

To be fair, there was an actual civil war fought over the issue of Parliament’s sovereignty, in which Parliament being dissolved so the sovereign could do what he liked was a big factor.

NettleTea · 28/08/2019 11:25

Im not sure Queenie actually has much power left, but I would really like to see her refuse. That would be very interesting. For one, you would have all the anti-monarchy people aligned with her.

I suspect Dominic Cummings hand in this. He's been paid to come up with strategies and the fact nobody saw this coming.....

As for civil war? unless they ban a nice cup of tea.......

sleepyhead · 28/08/2019 11:25

If the Queen refuses then there will be a lot of people calling for a Republic.

If she doesn't refuse then there will be a lot of people calling for a Republic.

I suspect Johnson is going to be off the Christmas card list.
