Do we fancy a full on civil war? Have we all gone completely mad? This is democracy? AIBU to say this is several steps too far?

Exactly @Bahlindah

Theresa May was gunning for Brexit and put the two key Brexit figures (Gove and Boris) into key cabinet positions to drive Brexit through.

The problem is that there is no consensus on what Brexit should look like. none at all.

That’s before we even get to remain vs leave.

This is why we are heading towards no deal.

No deal means that everyone (who voted Leave) and no one is satisfied. Every leaver because we will have left the EU so they can STFU about it and no one, because no one has what they want.

MPs “swanning off for summer” is the current parliament convention. This is different because it’s unconventional at best.

Have you all heard of Dominic Cummins? He absolutely hates how government is run, he’s obsessed with proper project management etc so it makes sense if you think like him. Barrel towards no deal and put in place a “crack” crisis team full of super intelligents (like him Hmm). Democracy and the existing conventions - well let’s side step that.

An expert on Parliamentary procedure from Hansard, had just said on Radio 4 that’s its much worse than people think.

MPs have to approve a recess from parliament for the party conferences, this year many were saying they would vote against this as they felt MPs should be in Parliament discussing Brexit.

So up to five weeks of debate has been blocked, far worse than this lying govt have stated.

Big fan of this guy 😉

Yes - we have been lied to.

People should be up in arms at the moment.

WaterSheep · 29/08/2019 07:52

beccarocksbaby some of the comments on that post are eye opening, and not in a good way.

Monty27 · 29/08/2019 07:53

I predict a riot.
I seriously do

ContinuityError · 29/08/2019 08:31

People should be up in arms at the moment

People who have some understanding of what is going on are up in arms.

The feckin eejits that nod along enthusiastically to calling judges “enemies of the people”, MPs “saboteurs” and civil servants “traitors” ... well they deserve everything they’re going to get.

Alsohuman · 29/08/2019 08:41

Unfortunately the rest of us are going to get it too.

scaryteacher · 29/08/2019 08:53

Lizzie The MPs have spent an awful lot of time discussing Brexit recently and have achieved nothing. What more is there, or can there be, to say?

No point in a VONC until they see what Boris gets at the next European Council summit in October, and if it is the WA rehashed, that requires a new session of parliament, as iirc, it couldn't be reintroduced in the current one.

beccarocksbaby · 29/08/2019 08:56

@WaterSheep ... I try not to read the comments on Facebook it kills me

WaterSheep · 29/08/2019 09:00

beccarocksbaby I do wonder what it must be like to have your head so firmly in the sand, that you're able to go through life not worrying about what's happening. Surely those commenting can't be so clueless. Confused

LizzieSiddal · 29/08/2019 10:03

Do you seriously think that’s a good argument to shut down parliament?!

It’s a phrase which sounds like it came straight. from N Korea/China/Russia, not the UK.

i agree lizzie- says so much, doesnt it.

BoneyBackJefferson · 29/08/2019 17:59

It’s a phrase which sounds like it came straight. from N Korea/China/Russia, not the UK.

Here is an ironic statement for those that have been following these threads.

That isn't an answer.
There are many things that could be discussed like

Further extensions
different deals that could be on the table
calling no confidence in the government
Forcing a GE
revoking article 50
another referendum

all of these could be discussed and they could even send a second team over to the EU to try an get a backroom deal.

ilovemyskunks · 29/08/2019 18:08

@Tonnerre
What absolute rubbish!

Teacher22 · 29/08/2019 22:09

Parliament has spent three years trying to thwart the democratic outcome of the referendum. It does not, at present, represent the will of the people.

Iggly · 29/08/2019 22:42

Assuming the “will” has remained the same over the last 3 years.....

And that that “will” was clearly defined.

We live in a parliamentary democracy. Parliament acts on our behalf.

Hell, even brexiteers voted against the Theresa May deal. Not even they can agree amongst themselves.

Tonnerre · 29/08/2019 22:52

What absolute rubbish!

Not the most convincing argument, to be honest, @ilovemyskunks.

Tonnerre · 29/08/2019 22:55

Teacher22, the referendum result cannot be viewed as the will of the people due to the proven extensive electoral fraud on the part of the Leave campaign which would have nullified the result had it not been a purely advisory vote.

Twinkled · 30/08/2019 08:05

Dreadful Bozo power mad and greedy by taking power that is not his to take. This is bad news and if he succeeds in proroguing then it sets this as a precedent that can be used at any time .

Twinkled · 30/08/2019 08:09

Bozo and cronies don't care about lack of medicine ,food , poor wages, zero hours, etc as they have enough money so Brexit and then making Britain more punative will keep them and their coffers safe . Cabinet member Patel wants to bring back hanging

Biologyquestion · 30/08/2019 08:47

This is bad news and if he succeeds in proroguing then it sets this as a precedent that can be used at any time.

Yes this is what scares me more than anything.

BagpussAteMyHomework · 30/08/2019 08:59

It feels as if trust is just gone on all sides. Politicians can say anything to get to the next square on the checker board and then start afresh.

I wonder what would have happened if Johnson has had to go to court over his 350 Million To the NHS promise

FelicisNox · 30/08/2019 09:30

He is trying to remove power from our elected representatives... this to me is unconstitutional.

But we're so far down the rabbit hole I don't know how any of this will be resolved to any degree of satisfaction.

Blazingatrail · 30/08/2019 19:12

Err, biology you do know that parliament had been prorogued before don’t you? By none other than the hypocrite John Major to name a few.
It’s always been an option before a GE.
