Do we fancy a full on civil war? Have we all gone completely mad? This is democracy? AIBU to say this is several steps too far?

Playing high stakes poker? Seriously? Literally with other peoples lives, while holding a pair of 2s....

it is only "uncomfortable" if you have a job not impacted by Brexit, or no health problems that need imported drugs, or you are not living on the bread line and the inevitable inflation on food etc. will not effect you.

For the other people out there, this is a significant live changing event - and by "life changing", I genuinely mean "life ending" for some, as noted by the Government themselves.

Forgive me if I think that is more than "uncomfortable"

Jillyhilly · 28/08/2019 13:52

He could be. We don’t know, do we? But panicking and flapping about and making comparisons to the Cuban missile crisis is just ridiculous.

ContinuityError · 28/08/2019 13:54

Johnson is fighting for a deal

I sincerely doubt that.

It's been a strategic miscalculation by Cummings, as it will coalesce the anti no dealers in Parliament.

How has your life changed since about 2 hours ago?

justasking111 · 28/08/2019 13:56

We had the same hysteria when we went into the common market, which was what it was originally intended to be.

aliteralAIBUforonce · 28/08/2019 14:00

@Jillyhilly

Take neither you nor any of your loved ones take any life saving meds?

We went round FIVE pharmacies to get my DH's last week.

It is NOT produced in the UK.

ContinuityError · 28/08/2019 14:05

We had the same hysteria when we went into the common market, which was what it was originally intended to be.

Either you never understood EEC or you weren't paying attention at the time. It was never just a "common market".

Jillyhilly · 28/08/2019 14:07

I take methotrexate and other meds for Rhuematoid arthritis.

I’m sorry to hear about your DH. That really does suck.

By the way I voted Remain.

I’m trying to make a point, which is that panic doesn’t help anyone. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the last 3 years, it’s not to react like an emotional basket case over every single thing that happens, even if the media and every single politician is screaming about it.

Helmetbymidnight · 28/08/2019 14:19

It’s not the worst thing that’s ever happened

show me one person who has said that, just one.

no deal brexit is a big deal- saying its not like a nuclear war shows either a lack of understanding/giving a shit. if you dont give a shit just say so, dont try and pretend youre all serene and wise and everyone else is panicking. the situation is shit- we're entitled to our concern.

historysock · 28/08/2019 14:20

Im concerned that people are NOT panicking enough tbh.

Helmetbymidnight · 28/08/2019 14:22

boris is doing great, historysock, anyone who says otherwise is panicking or doesnt understand history or is a basket case.

LetsTryToLetGoOfAnger · 28/08/2019 14:24

We were already in the midst of a constitutional crisis, this may bring it to a head.

The thing is, I don't see a way that implementing the result of the vote could have been prolonged further, so it's not like it is the status quo being disturbed, the UK was in a state of democratic and constitutional limbo anyway.

historysock · 28/08/2019 14:27

A right wing government removes all capacity for the elected legislature to debate the future of the country. No need to panic, there is nothing in history that suggests this a bad idea. It's not against everything democracy stands for. At least there are no nuclear weapons involved though eh?

I can't understand how anyone can argue that this is a good development.

KangaAndRooAndOwl · 28/08/2019 14:29

He looks very pleased with himself...it's all about The Boris Show...

Helmetbymidnight · 28/08/2019 14:29

no nor can i, but its not as bad as ww2, and thats how we measure things now. Hmm

historysock · 28/08/2019 14:30

Helmetbymidnight. My mother who voted leave said much the same thing to me the other day. Then shuffled off to Morrison's, (passing en route my history and politics degree certificate, which she was once so proud of that she saw fit to frame it for the wall), to complain about the size of the carrots, of course, as dictated by Europe (which she based her leave vote on). Grin

historysock · 28/08/2019 14:32

At least in world war 2 we had allies. The rest of the world (and half the people in this country to be fair ) think we are crazy 🤷🏽‍♀️

Helmetbymidnight · 28/08/2019 14:33

oof its atrocious isnt it- but every day shows up the leavers for what they are- looks like 'democracy' was never a real concern...

Tonnerre · 28/08/2019 14:35

Johnson is fighting for a deal. It’s high stakes poker. Very uncomfortable, I’ll give you that, but people really need to stay calm.

Nonsense. He's just doing what Dominic Cummings tells him to do, and Cummings is only interested in his own agenda.

Biologyquestion · 28/08/2019 14:37

^ this

Not only Cummings, but an alt right axis is delighted at the prospect of how weakened we are going to be.

It’s enough to weep.

Biologyquestion · 28/08/2019 14:38

I only hope that in the coming General Election the Tories are annihilated, which is what they absolutely deserve.

Tonnerre · 28/08/2019 14:39

But panicking and flapping about and making comparisons to the Cuban missile crisis is just ridiculous.

This is very revealing about the way you are misreading what people are actually saying, @Jillyhilly. It's not people who are expressing their concerns about this who are comparing the situation to the Cuban Missile Crisis - it's the people who are telling us there's nothing to worry about who are doing that.

historysock · 28/08/2019 14:45

Biology question. But what would get to replace them? Where is the opposition in any of this shitty mess?

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 28/08/2019 14:46

Blimey.

Some of the bots contributions to this thread make Claig and others sound like Churchill Shock

I wonder if they get paid by the number of posts or the number of letters? Bonus payment if you say "by the way I voted remain" Grin

Better start that tinfoil stockpile while there's still some on the shelves.
