WIBU to insist on this pram?

I really, really want a Bugaboo Fox. In the reviews it ticks all the boxes for me: sturdy, lightweight, all-terrain, great storage and obviously pretty damn gorgeous!!

BUT DH doesn't think we should spend a grand on something we'll only use for about three years and wants us to get something second hand. He doesn't understand that there are literally billions of types out there, and some of the cheaper brands are cheap for a reason!

Also he won't ever be pushing the damn thing - I don't drive, and will be doing A LOT of walking with it. We live in a hilly town with some rural areas, so just buying something at random from the Argos catalogue isn't going to cut it. It needs to be light, easily folded, have good storage and be able to tackle mud, uneven ground, hills and busy streets.

WIBU to just buy the Fox regardless? We're not rich by any means, but we're not poor either, we can afford it. Plus I expect my parents will want to cover half the cost. Or should I compromise and get something cheaper like the baby jogger city mini? I don't like that it's forward facing only, but it's another all-terrain and my husband is more likely to agree on that one...

I had the babyjogger, and then bought it again 10 years later because it was so awesome.
Spending a grand on a buggy?!?! Hell no!

Can't you find the pram you like second hand? I have to admit regardless of what boxes it ticks I would not be spending £1000 on a pram, there are thousands of different makes, designs and models and there is certain to be one that ticks every box that doesn't cost so much money. Just because something is cheaper doesn't mean it will not be as good and likewise a pram that costs 1K is not destined to be the best. Plus even if you liked pushing it around the store it doesn't mean it will be perfect for your needs once baby is here and you're using it every day.

It sounds like what you like most is the way it looks! There will be lots of other prams that are just as good.

I found the PERFECT buggy when I was pregnant and it was close to a grand.

DD is 6 months and it's still just so perfect for us!! We live rurally too, and I needed one I could take on big dog walks.

However, and this is the important thing, while we had to save, we could afford it. If you can afford it, get it. If not, get something cheaper.

I think you would regret it at some point. It's a lot of money for a pram. If you haven't already it's worth going to mothercare or something and trying a few out.

I got the bugaboo chameleon whole travel system second hand for a couple of hundred quid. When I started using it day in day out I noticed all sorts that was a pain in the arse and not at all practical. That said it’s lightweight and easy to move around, comfortable and looks nice. But I’d have been gutted if I’d spent a grand on it. I think there’s much more important things to spend your money on but each to their own!

If I lived in a rural area I'd spend the money on getting my driving license and buy a cheaper buggy/pram. Spending £1000 on a buggy is way too expensive in my view.

The license will last you for life and will mean you can travel anywhere for DC for clubs/ sports/ nursery/ school etc

YANBU. He won’t be using it and three years of almost daily use is a lot. If you do the maths it’s pretty much £1 a day.

Much better prams for half that price, the out and about nipper for example.(the fox will not tackle mud/uneven ground well imo) But then if you can afford it and you want it.......

Are you planning to have more than one child? We spent a fortune on our Bugaboo Donkey when we had twins, but I loved it: spacious, easy to push, looked nice, comfortable for the boys. It’s also the one item of baby equipment we didn’t get round to selling, which was fortunate as it’s now used by number three. I feel much better about the cost since it’s being used for another child, and we’ll probably still be able to sell it on for a decent price.

Buy a second hand bugaboo in a different model instead. You should be able to get one for around a quarter of the price.

I would.... I had the buffalo and loved using it every day.... we are rural too.... I even swapped cars with my dad because it wouldn’t fit in the back of mine easily 🤣🤣🤣

If I had my time again I would do sling for first 6 months. You will then have a wide range of more affordable pushchairs to choose from as you won't need one suitable from birth

Get the one you want OP, we spent £600 17 years ago on the perfect pram, it was well worth the investment IMHO.

Not all prams are cheap for a reason! Often you are paying for the name and fashion!!

I've bought the Mountain Buggy. Half the price of the bugaboo and all terrain, one hand hold, parent facing, great storage etc etc. My brother had one and it lasted all 3 of his children over 11 years!! So def built to last.

Also I envisaged long leisurely walks with my new baby in his pram but in the early days he had reflux so couldn’t lie flat and he’s now going through a phase where he just doesn’t like it (nosy boy wants to see what’s going on!) and so he’s in his carrier most of the time at the moment. Hopefully when he’s forward facing he’ll fall in love with it again but I’ve not used it half as much as I thought I would!

Waste of money even if you can afford it. It’s not an ideal pram for rural areas. If you want something good for rural terrain then look at the mountain buggy.

You’re clearly persuaded by the look and the brand rather than the practicality. There are plenty of peaks that have as good or better storage and fold up as small or smaller.

I regret not buying second hand. I have far wealthier friends who all bought second hand because it’s just sensible.

Also, until you’ve actually tried a pram you can’t possible say it’s your perfect pram. You might hate it once you get it. I bought the bugaboo bee for similar reasons to you and I hate the thing.

You don't know the reason OP doesn't drive, and £500 would only buy about 15 lessons.

The city mini is a fantastic pram, the only downside is it's forward facing only, but it's lovely to push, folds up very easily and compact and has a good recline and a massive hood for sun or bad weather protection.

But if you really love the bugaboo and can easily afford it, get one. If you look after it you should get good resale value.

Op, what you actually mean is you want to spend a shit load of money on a designer pram which is a status symbol. You want it because it's a Bugaboo. If it were a Mothercare own brand, would you feel the same way? Because, you know cheaper but equally as good (if not better) prams do exist out there!

That is a lot of money to spend on a pram that the baby may not like. Some babies hate being in the pram, my youngest does and so we barely use it to be honest so I would be gutted if I had spent £1000 on it.
