Hi everyone, I know that people will tell me to go to the doctor instead of self diagnosing, I went for a blood test yesterday and should have the results on Friday, it was just in case my blood test came back normal it would be great to hear other people's opinions on what this might be!

About three months ago I started waking up every night with horrific night sweats, so bad the mattress was soaked and it looked like it been in the shower. I know that this was during the heatwave but we kept our room cool and DH who is usually too warm at night was completely fine. The night sweats have calmed down quite a bit in the last two weeks ago because I now sleep with no clothes or covers.

I have been also experiencing very itchy skin all over and if I itch it a few hours later the itchy area becomes very bruised particularly with small round purple bruises that vary from pin prick size to the size of the tip of my finger. I've also been bruising very easily in general and am covered in bruises right now. About two months ago I was in a spin class and felt my finger starting to hurt, there had been absolutely no impact as I was gripping the handle bar and a couple of seconds after the pain part of my finger started to turn purple and bruised right before my eyes. I dont know if that is related to the current bruising but seemed odd.

I was just hoping to get a few ideas on what this Could be or if anyone has had anything similar? Many thanks.

You need a blood test asap I am not trying to alarm you but some of your symptoms sound serious. Don't let the Doctor fob you off because I did and became very ill with thyroid disease.

justilou1 · 14/08/2019 06:02

There are so many things this could be. Some are serious and some not so much. Absolutely need a blood test. Could be several cancers, could be menopause, could be an allergic reaction, best not to panic, but get it checked.

princesjet2 · 14/08/2019 06:02

I should add that I'm female in my late twenties!

Even if the blood test is normal, keep pushing for a diagnosis,.These are nasty symptoms!

Mileysmiley · 14/08/2019 06:12

One of my symptoms was night sweats btw

princesjet2 · 14/08/2019 13:42

Thanks guys, I'll get the results soon and I will definitely keep pushing for answers even if it comes back negative! I woke up this morning and my whole body aches and I have more bruises Sad

I'm not going to offer my speculation on what these symptoms might mean because I don't think it would be helpful, but even if your blood test comes back normal you should definitely go back to the doctor and ask for further tests/investigation.

Night sweats and bruising like that in combination are not something you should ignore.

MrsMozartMkII · 14/08/2019 14:27

If you're that bad today I'd call the GP again, and if no joy I'd call 111.

princesjet2 · 18/08/2019 18:56

Hi everyone, thanks for all your advice. I got my blood test results back and they came back all normal (full blood count, anemia, HIV, viruses) apart from a slightly increased inflammation marker, the nurse asked if I had a cold or a virus and I don't! But it was only slightly high so apparently not something they would worry about. Unfortunately my bruising has gotten worse and I now have them all over my body, I've taken pictures of them and in a few you can see small red dots which I've never had before this whole episode. The earliest I can see the doctor is next week, I will post the photos below and if anyone has ever had anything similar I would really appreciate your thoughts!!

I would 100% be calling out of hours, that just isn’t right.

Wherearemycrayons · 18/08/2019 19:13

Sorry that sounded really unhelpful, I meant it in a kind of ‘it’s not normal you need to go and see someone’ not ‘that’s not right that’s disgusting’ type way

SistersOfMerci · 18/08/2019 19:19

You'll probably need more specific bloods being done. It could be something like vasculitis so you'll need to push your Gp for an emergency appt first thing Monday morning and get an urgent referral.

MaeveDidIt · 18/08/2019 19:20

Go to A&E tonight

Abstractedobstructed · 18/08/2019 19:25

Could be immune thrombocytopenic purpura, ITP, but I assume low platelets would have been picked up in FBC...?

There's obviously some problem with your blood / veins. I would go to A and E too.

PositiveVibez · 18/08/2019 19:26

That's not right. I would be going to a & e or making and emergency appointment in the morning.

Elieza · 18/08/2019 19:26

Think I’d phone nhs24 too. They will have access to your records and can see if you should attend or not. It may be well in hand with your gp, but in light of the fact your symptoms have worsened perhaps you need to make sure. If you won’t phone them instead dial your gp tomorrow and insist on a phone call with him so he can see what he thinks.

princesjet2 · 18/08/2019 19:37

Calling out of hours now thanks guys

TheSheepofWallSt · 18/08/2019 19:43

In no way is that normal. No way.
Take yourself to A&E. Tonight. It looks like blood is pooling around that vein in the crook of your arm, which makes me worry.

Not medical, but worked in a related field for years. I get twitchy when I see something like that and think “ah that arsehole grumpy A&E doctor I worked with would 100% have been happy for that person to come in as an emergency”.

StormcloakNord · 18/08/2019 19:59

Are those bruises just from you itching?! That's awful, glad you've phoned OOH. Hopefully they get you in to look at it as it's definitely serious!

GiveMeSleepAndEvenMoreWine · 18/08/2019 20:02

I agree with PP. ITP could be a possibility

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 18/08/2019 20:10

Nothing to add but good luck!

AhhhHereItGoes · 18/08/2019 20:20

Nothing to add except that looks really bad.

Hope they do further investigations soon.

Sendmoneynow · 18/08/2019 20:31

Another vote here for ITP. That's exactly how my daughter looked/felt when diagnosed. The issue righted itself after a couple of weeks and she has not had a repeat experience. Doctors said it may have been a result of a viral infection she'd had a couple of weeks before diagnosis; they said, once her immune system had successfully fought off the illness it had turned on itself. Hope you get answers and begin to feel better soon. Flowers

Night sweats, itching, and bruising can be signs of lymphoma*. I had approximately 13 GP appointments / out of hours / 111 appointments before I got my lymphoma diagnosis in my twenties. You need to keep pushing the doctors for a diagnosis.

  • Obviously I'm not saying it's definitely lymphoma.
