Hi everyone, I know that people will tell me to go to the doctor instead of self diagnosing, I went for a blood test yesterday and should have the results on Friday, it was just in case my blood test came back normal it would be great to hear other people's opinions on what this might be!

About three months ago I started waking up every night with horrific night sweats, so bad the mattress was soaked and it looked like it been in the shower. I know that this was during the heatwave but we kept our room cool and DH who is usually too warm at night was completely fine. The night sweats have calmed down quite a bit in the last two weeks ago because I now sleep with no clothes or covers.

I have been also experiencing very itchy skin all over and if I itch it a few hours later the itchy area becomes very bruised particularly with small round purple bruises that vary from pin prick size to the size of the tip of my finger. I've also been bruising very easily in general and am covered in bruises right now. About two months ago I was in a spin class and felt my finger starting to hurt, there had been absolutely no impact as I was gripping the handle bar and a couple of seconds after the pain part of my finger started to turn purple and bruised right before my eyes. I dont know if that is related to the current bruising but seemed odd.

I was just hoping to get a few ideas on what this Could be or if anyone has had anything similar? Many thanks.

Jesus? Never mind those bruises are awful!. It could be leukaemia

Limensoda · 20/08/2019 12:37

Did you just have full blood count blood test?
There are other blood tests that can be done.
I've had symptoms the doctor can't explain from nine months.
They did blood tests several times and all came back normal. Now they've done some other tests that take a few weeks to come back and I should get the results this week.

verystressedmum · 20/08/2019 12:45

Night sweats, itching and tiredness are symptoms of lymphoma.
It generally doesn't show up on a full blood count but results can vary and you could have, for example, raised white cell count or raised esr but these wouldn't be diagnostic in themselves.

Keep pushing at the doctors, it could be anything not necessarily lymphoma at all.

QueenOfPain · 20/08/2019 12:52

111 can’t do anything.
The OOH GP can’t make speciality referrals.
A&E is the right place only if you have rapidly or significantly worsening symptoms, or have chest pain, shortness of breath, heavy bleeding or are collapsing.

Your GP is the right place, and they are already investigating. I hope you get your answers and feel better soon.

Mrspoopoohead · 20/08/2019 13:27

You need to push for further tests urgently I’m halfway through treatment for lymphoma and I didn’t have any of your symptoms but those are definitely symptoms as my oncologist asked if I’d been having them. My bloods were all fine as well it was only picked up with a CT scan. I’m surprised your GP isn’t more on the ball I’d get a 2nd opinion and ask them to examine your lymph nodes so it can be ruled out.

JustDanceAddict · 20/08/2019 13:33

I’d try a private GP for a referral too. Would not be happy waiting for more bloods. GPS can be very dismissive and/or not know what something is even w blood results unless patently obvious.,

Thatsalovelycuppatea · 20/08/2019 18:10

Erm I think you should phone your gp and get some bloods done as soon as possible!

ems137 · 20/08/2019 19:49

My mum had awful bruises like that, tiredness and aches. It turned out to be leukaemia. Please get checked out again. My mum ended up going to the walk in centre and after seeing her they took her straight to the specialist blood/cancer hospital.

princesjet2 · 21/08/2019 09:31

Bruising has gotten worse as has the achiness and shivers. I've phoned my gp and now have a doctor's appointment today at 11.30 where I will get a blood test. To add to the stress, I've been off work since Thursday with this and my employer has been less than understanding and is asking for a sick note from my gp. I've never had one before, do you just ask your gp for it whilst there? I'm at the end of my tether with this Sad

Oh you poor bugger ☹️
Yes ask while you're there.

OoohOnly90CaloriesIllhave10 · 21/08/2019 09:43

I just googled adult leukaemia and it seems to be all those symptoms.

Don't leave until they do the exact tests to rule that out.

DannyWallace · 21/08/2019 09:47

Oh OP you poor thing.
I have nothing else to add but I hope you get some answers soon.
And yes, just ask for a note x

princesjet2 · 21/08/2019 10:00

@OoohOnly90CaloriesIllhave10 thank you for looking into it, would that not show up on the last blood test I had though? But yes I will definitely be planted in my chair until I have the tests!

@DannyWallace Thank you, I will update on here

Hope you get a GP that listens OP - please push for answers. If they are less than helpful go to A and E

ProbablyPertunia · 21/08/2019 10:07

Good luck today at your drs appointment. Please mention you have the symptoms for leukemia and tell them (don't ask) to organise the appropriate testing for it. Sending you all the best wishes xx

Sexnotgender · 21/08/2019 10:14

Leukaemia is what sprung to my mind. You must be so worried.
Please push the doctor for appropriate tests.

ImNotYourGranny · 21/08/2019 10:20

My DD had unexplained, massive bruising and her GP sent her straight to A&E, where she was kept in isolation until they knew the cause. She had a barrage of tests to rule out things like leukemia and HIV. Eventually she was diagnosed with ITP. She wasn't sent home from hospital for 4 weeks. I'm shocked at how blase the doctor was with you. I hope they take it more seriously when you go today.

Wherearemycrayons · 21/08/2019 10:39

OP leukaemia could POSSIBLY have shown up in a FBC as it affects white blood cell count and platelets sometimes, but obviously I’m not a doctor so please push for tests to rule out everything. Really hope the GP is understanding, good luck. X

QOD · 21/08/2019 10:42

Wow how can they ignore that? Crazy

worriedaboutray · 21/08/2019 11:04

*I just googled adult leukaemia and it seems to be all those symptoms.

She's already had a FBC. I'm not sure Dr Googling is helpful for her.

FrappeLatte · 21/08/2019 11:26

Good luck in your appointment today, I hope the GP is more helpful this time.

OoohOnly90CaloriesIllhave10 · 21/08/2019 12:28

Yes and no from what I researched the blood test would show raised white blood cells (which sounds like you have had, given that they asked if you had a virus recently?).

To get an exact diagnoses it would mean taking a sample from bone marrow.

OoohOnly90CaloriesIllhave10 · 21/08/2019 12:30

worriedabouttray yes, but her bloods did show something. FBC doesn't shout out Leukemia from my understanding. It would just show raises WBC.
A further investigation would be needed to rule it out which is what I would want if I were the OP.

I'm not diagnosing her, I'm telling her what I would want if I was in that position.

OoohOnly90CaloriesIllhave10 · 21/08/2019 12:31

AND I've got professional experience with children with Leukemia. I researched further online with regards to adult Leukemia and my suspicions were correct. They are typical symptoms, unlikely hopefully but good to rule it out.

AgeBeforeBeauty · 21/08/2019 12:48

Blood count will not necessarily show lymphoma, but would not be normal in leukaemia. Urgent haematology referral is required, under 2 week wait rules.
