Hi everyone, I know that people will tell me to go to the doctor instead of self diagnosing, I went for a blood test yesterday and should have the results on Friday, it was just in case my blood test came back normal it would be great to hear other people's opinions on what this might be!

About three months ago I started waking up every night with horrific night sweats, so bad the mattress was soaked and it looked like it been in the shower. I know that this was during the heatwave but we kept our room cool and DH who is usually too warm at night was completely fine. The night sweats have calmed down quite a bit in the last two weeks ago because I now sleep with no clothes or covers.

I have been also experiencing very itchy skin all over and if I itch it a few hours later the itchy area becomes very bruised particularly with small round purple bruises that vary from pin prick size to the size of the tip of my finger. I've also been bruising very easily in general and am covered in bruises right now. About two months ago I was in a spin class and felt my finger starting to hurt, there had been absolutely no impact as I was gripping the handle bar and a couple of seconds after the pain part of my finger started to turn purple and bruised right before my eyes. I dont know if that is related to the current bruising but seemed odd.

I was just hoping to get a few ideas on what this Could be or if anyone has had anything similar? Many thanks.

Hope your ok OP

Thanks for the well wishes and suggestions, it's given me an idea of what tests to push for!
So I called nhs24 and explained it all, they sent me to an out of hours appointment straight away. Good news is that the doctor didn't think it was anything sinister, although all she did was look at my bruises, take my blood pressure and listen to my heart rate, but she had no idea what it was so sent me on my way! I will keep pushing for an answer.

So she sent you home? Do you have a referal?

managedmis · 19/08/2019 01:02

but she had no idea what it was so sent me on my way!

^^

Confused
princesjet2 · 19/08/2019 01:18

No referral, nothing. I'm going to call my GP first thing in the morning!

OP posts:
managedmis · 19/08/2019 01:21

Yes, call the gp for sure.

Definitely continue taking photos. Take your temperature regularly too.

NoSauce · 19/08/2019 01:21

That was a waste of time then. Definitely ring GP first thing.

princesjet2 · 19/08/2019 01:23

Thank you, I will, and will update on the thread

Have you been unusually tired? Night sweats, itching and tiredness are symptoms of lymphoma.

SpringIsSprung1 · 19/08/2019 04:30

Essential Thrombocythemia? I have this and bruise when I scratch my skin. Had a gene test to confirm.

AgeBeforeBeauty · 19/08/2019 09:16

This needs to be looked into urgently I would say. Try to see the GP today, they should refer you for an urgent chest x-ray at the very least, and repeat blood tests (full blood count and clotting). With those symptoms they should get you to a haematologist as soon as possible in my view - this isn't something the GP should be trying to diagnose or manage. Good luck.

Wherearemycrayons · 19/08/2019 19:48

Hope it went ok today OP

scottgirl · 19/08/2019 20:11

How did it go today?

FrappeLatte · 19/08/2019 20:17

This looks worrying OP, I hope you managed to get an appointment and some progress today.

Hepburn17 · 19/08/2019 20:49

I would say that you have anemia, low iron levels and that can lead to bruising from the slightest thing such as bumping your arm on the door(not painful but an hour later you may have a bruise). But everything you are saying definitely would say to me that you need to listen to the Dr's and let them get to the bottom of what's going on with you.
I wish you well x

managedmis · 19/08/2019 20:51

How are you, princes?

Summersunshine2 · 19/08/2019 20:57

Can you afford private healthcare appointments? Maybe worth it if you keep getting fobbed off.

JoanieCash · 19/08/2019 20:58

If you’ve had a Normal blood count (FBC), you don’t have ITP nor essential thromboocythaemia nor anaemia, as all seen on a blood count. However the night sweats and itching are of concern and could represent lymphoma (among a multitude of innocent conditions). Make sure you’re examined for lymph nodes and if sweats ongoing and no clear cause, ask for a haematology referral.

princesjet2 · 20/08/2019 11:03

Thank you for all the kind messages. I have another blood test next week and it's going to test for a whole host of other things
The doctor said that it could be vasculitis, she said that she has only seen something like this once before and it spontaneously cleared up after a few weeks, so fingers crossed!

Stuffofawesome · 20/08/2019 11:36

That sounds reassuring but it does not seem like your gp knows much about this or is recognising potential red flags. If there is any worsening or not improvement I really think you need to go to a and e

princesjet2 · 20/08/2019 12:01

@PutTheBassInYourWalk, @JoanieCash , @MrsSarahSiddons Do you happen to know whether lymphoma would show up in a blood test?just because mine came back normal!

OP posts:
princesjet2 · 20/08/2019 12:04

@Stuffofawesome you're right, I guess I was a bit put off by the reaction in out of hours, I felt like an inconvenience!

OP posts:
Stuffofawesome · 20/08/2019 12:14

Sometimes you have to be your own advocate! Sometimes a doctor will think nothing is going on because they can't see it themselves. Your symptoms aren't normal and if they don't go away you really do need to see a specialist

JoanieCash · 20/08/2019 12:26

@princesjet2 yes, normal blood count is typical for many lymphomas (although can be abnormal). But You should ‘follow the symptoms’ and not chase internet diagnosis. What I mean is that night sweats are a feature of many conditions (TB, sarcoidosis, lymphoma etc), so standard thing is to investigate the cancers first to exclude and then breathe out, and look for infections and inflammation (less urgently)
