Hi everyone, I know that people will tell me to go to the doctor instead of self diagnosing, I went for a blood test yesterday and should have the results on Friday, it was just in case my blood test came back normal it would be great to hear other people's opinions on what this might be!

About three months ago I started waking up every night with horrific night sweats, so bad the mattress was soaked and it looked like it been in the shower. I know that this was during the heatwave but we kept our room cool and DH who is usually too warm at night was completely fine. The night sweats have calmed down quite a bit in the last two weeks ago because I now sleep with no clothes or covers.

I have been also experiencing very itchy skin all over and if I itch it a few hours later the itchy area becomes very bruised particularly with small round purple bruises that vary from pin prick size to the size of the tip of my finger. I've also been bruising very easily in general and am covered in bruises right now. About two months ago I was in a spin class and felt my finger starting to hurt, there had been absolutely no impact as I was gripping the handle bar and a couple of seconds after the pain part of my finger started to turn purple and bruised right before my eyes. I dont know if that is related to the current bruising but seemed odd.

I was just hoping to get a few ideas on what this Could be or if anyone has had anything similar? Many thanks.

Aplastic anaemia is a possibility? Hope everything is ok. Good luck tomorrow OP.

SimplySteveRedux · 22/08/2019 21:04

Good luck tomorrow, so frustrating when doctors bury their heads in the sand.

YesQueen · 22/08/2019 21:09

Hope your appointment goes well. It took me 8 years to get my diagnosis but haematology have been fantastic and my consultant is great

Franklymydearidontgiveadam · 22/08/2019 21:24

@BarbarAnna

Yes, as i need more meds. 24 hrs to the dot the chronic itching starts again n sweats are there at night.

Had bloods, all normal, no action. So frustrating so I know how OP feels. I'm scared too. Luckily I'm off work through redundancy and I'm studying but I'm napping all the time xx

Op we can do this xx

BarbarAnna · 22/08/2019 21:30

@Franklymydearidontgiveadam good luck. Wishing you well.

InterestingView · 23/08/2019 23:07

How are you OP??

MoaningMinnie1 · 23/08/2019 23:25

I hope you keep your fluid levels up, princesjet. Drink lots of water. It sounds like you're dehydrated. I hope it isn't anything more serious than that but your blood results will tell you. I used to be similar when not drinking enough during hot weather but was OK when I did.

Channychanny · 23/08/2019 23:32

Sounds like an over active thyroid to me.

Percivalthebabyspider · 23/08/2019 23:52

Birdshitbridgegotme · 24/08/2019 04:10

KingaRoo · 24/08/2019 09:02

Yes any progress with the GP?

princesjet2 · 24/08/2019 16:34

Thanks for the lovely messages.

So the gp said that my blood tests show inflammation and infection, he looked at my past blood tests and apparently this has shown up in all my tests over the last year and a half and he didn't understand why it hasn't been flagged before. My blood count was normal.
I have another blood test next week checking CRP? As the doctor thought it might be an autoimmune issue. I dont know what that really mean. If the next blood test doesn't reveal anything, then I'm being referred to the haematology department.
I'm getting quite exasperated with it, the bruising is getting worse and I feel lethargic, i have no idea if this is related but in the last few days ive had a dull ache on the right side under the ribs. I just want this to be resolved soon Sad

princesjet that's good to hear about the test. When you next go to the doctors I suggest you write down any questions you think of plus extra symptoms you notice eg ache under ribs and write down what they say . Also for any tests suggested say 'what are they for' and write it down. It's very confusing and disorienting being not very well and the doctors should really take the time to explain a little bit more to you eg 'it might be an auto immune issue but I don't really know what that means'. Lots of us in here do know what that means but we can't possibly guess what your autoimmune issue might be! The doctors won't think you are annoying. Part of their job is to explain stuff like this somyiu don't spend the weekend worrying. Good luck.

ChristmasFluff · 24/08/2019 18:38

OP, it may be worth mentioning to your GP that there's at least one liver condition associated with these symptoms and blood results, and a referral to a specialist is probably in order.

I cannot diagnose, I'm a physio, not a doctor.

shockthemonkey · 24/08/2019 18:48

Hi OP, sounds very much like autoimmune disease, I really hope you get a firm diagnosis soon but it can be a slow process of elimination. You have my sympathies. I was where you are two years ago and now have my diagnosis. Best wishes I know it’s scary and stressful but you must try to meditate and decompress

Shannith · 24/08/2019 19:05

The bruising, fatigue and now pain on right hand side under your ribs (where your liver is) sounds very similar to my diagnosis of liver disease.

wineandsunshine · 24/08/2019 19:16

Oh good luck op - how frustrating that you don't have any diagnosis yet. I will keep my fingers crossed for you Smile

AgeBeforeBeauty · 24/08/2019 20:24

Surprised you haven't had a scan to be honest. Would want to rule out lymphoma, but if there isn't anything obvious in the bloods, it could be something like autoimmune hepatitis? Any change in your bowel habit (sorry if TMI). That wouldn't explain the night sweats though. You really should be under someone at the hospital by now ... can they not refer you to acute medicine? Best of luck x

Fairylea · 24/08/2019 20:29

Sorry you’re going through this. Sounds like there could be several things going on. Have a google of Addison’s disease and oestrogen deficiency. However, it could be all kinds of things..! I really hope you get some answers soon and can have some treatment for it.

InterestingView · 25/08/2019 10:31

How annoying
They could at least get you on a course of anti biotics and anti virals in the mean time if they can see raised levels for infection on your results.

Jubba · 25/08/2019 10:39

It’s not ITP. That would be picked up in bloods. Also not lukemia. As someone said. That’s also picked up with low white cell counts. Jesus. Many uneducated people on here.

Spudina · 25/08/2019 10:55

Low or very high WBC @Jubba in Leukaemia the bruising is associated with a low platelet count which would of have showed up on the FBC. Abnormal clotting is associated with a kind of Leukaemia called APML, but again that goes hand in hand with the other blood counts being deranged. Hope you get sorted OP. This all sounds frightening for you.

worriedaboutray · 25/08/2019 10:56

The reason medicine is a five year degree and years of post graduate training is because many conditions have many different presentations and loads of symptoms overlap.

Please try to have faith in the doctors until you've evidence to do otherwise.

Crowd sourcing opinions from people who've "researched" by shoving symptoms into Google and clicking the first couple of links is just going to make you stressed. Especially those insisting you have leukaemia when you've had a normal FBC.

Please try not to worry OP, it sounds like everything is in hand. I hope you feel better soon.

YesQueen · 25/08/2019 12:22

@princesjet2 sounds familiar. Mine were abnormal for 8 years and nobody picked it up until I went to a locum GP with night sweats. She did more bloods and rang me that night to say she had found every blood test was abnormal and could I go to haematology where there was a consultant waiting
I panicked obviously! Turns out I had incredibly low neutrophils (explains why I was always at the GP for being ill), asked loads of questions etc. I had more bloods and was diagnosed that day with neutropenia, probably within 6 weeks as it being autoimmune
Now I see haematology every 12 weeks, they take bloods which are back within an hour, I see the consultant to ask him daft questions like can I get Botox please, get my prescription and that's about it
