... to think 2GB a month is enough?

MT2017 · 13/08/2019 17:49

DC's and I are all on Sky plan, 2GB and unlimited calls / texts per month for £6 each. The benefit is that unused data can be dished out and as DD and I hardly use ours, this means DS1 and DS2 get between 3-4GB monthly each.

However, they are saying this isn't enough. AIBU to think that as they all use WiFi at home, this should be enough?

or am I woefully out of touch

It wouldn't be enough for me and i'm on wifi all evenings at home

JuniperBeer · 13/08/2019 17:51

I use 40gb a month.

Music, video. Games. Google maps.

DeltaAlphaDelta · 13/08/2019 17:51

Depends what its used for. DW has 1gb and rarely uses it, I have 16gb and sometimes only use 1-2gb, or some months all of it (mainly if DS is using the mobile hotspot in the car Hmm)

anotherrainydays · 13/08/2019 17:52

I'd say that's no where near enough tbh

Chasingsquirrels · 13/08/2019 17:54

My dc's (13 &16) and I have 1, 2 & 1.5 respectively. All on rollover, so any excess gets carried over a month. £5pm with ID Mobile.

None of us go over, and they know if they do they have to pay for it.

We have unlimited Wi-Fi at home so it's only out and about, they know not to stream on mobile data.

MaverickSnoopy · 13/08/2019 17:54

Depends on what people use it for. I've had 500mb for the last 3 years and sometimes gone a bit over but use wifi at home and if I run low on data when out I just dont use it. I mostly use my data for Google maps, mumsnet and facebook. I've recently got a new phone with 1gb data and thought that was loads lol.

ems137 · 13/08/2019 17:55

I'm a SAHP and am actually at home quite a lot and even I use my 3-4gb allowance. I don't watch YouTube or stream anything so I would say it's probably not enough for your sons. BUT, my kids get the 4gb giffgaff bundle and I tell them once it's gone it's gone so 🤷🏼‍♀️

19lottie82 · 13/08/2019 17:55

Not enough.

MyDcAreMarvel · 13/08/2019 17:57

No I think they need at least 5g.

MT2017 · 13/08/2019 17:58

Oh. Blush

nopixelsfound · 13/08/2019 17:58

I'd struggle with 2gb, I'd really have to monitor my usage on that/ration myself and I'm on WiFi at home plus on my breaks at work.

Obviously if it's all I could afford I would manage, but I do think it's at the very bottom of "enough" for modern smartphones.

lovelyupnorth · 13/08/2019 18:02

My 2 DDs have 15gb one uses it every month mainly due to long bus ride and no Wi-fi at school. (6th form)

StudentHelp · 13/08/2019 18:03

I get unlimited and don’t stream anything. Just browsing the internet/doing surveys etc I’d use atleast 8

notacooldad · 13/08/2019 18:04

It would last my mum and dad the rest of their lives!
It would barely last me two minutes!🤣🤣🤣

GooodMythicalMorning · 13/08/2019 18:07

I have 5 but only really use it for pokemon go and facebook, although I never use it all, probably about 3ish

Pretenditsaplan · 13/08/2019 18:08

That would last me maybe a day. And i have wifi at home.

Madfrogs · 13/08/2019 18:08

2gb is ok for just emails and iMessage. I get though a lot. The boy can go though it like nothing. I also don’t watch YouTube or anything like that on my data is purely websites and Facebook along with emails and iMessage.

Riverviews · 13/08/2019 18:09

Not enough for me. Even though I use wi-fi at home and in the office

DitheringBlidiot · 13/08/2019 18:09

I have 8, I’ve never used it all but I definitely use more than 2. Everything requires data, even WhatsApp. No one texts anymore

PatButcherStyleIcon · 13/08/2019 18:11

I have 60gb in my plan. I never use all of it but I would use 2gb in a day!

ChoudeBruxelles · 13/08/2019 18:12

I have 30gb a month and dh and ds share a 45gb package. Ds initially is given 4gb and dh tips it up for him during the month by sharing the data with him.

Some apps use data in the background (ds has Life360 on his phone so we can see where he is) which uses data all of the time while he’s out.

I do encourage him to download things to watch rather than stream when using data

AbbyNormal · 13/08/2019 18:12

I only have 1GB a month and hardly ever run out and I'm basically glued to my phone! GrinI'm connected to the wifi at home and as I'm home a lot that's where I mostly use my phone, which is probably why I hardly ever use up my data. I don't watch YouTube or anything while out and about but I'll browse on FB and use Whatsapp if I'm waiting around/passing the time.

MT2017 · 13/08/2019 18:13

@DitheringBlidiot I text! And so do lots of others of my not so advanced generation Wink

Dieu · 13/08/2019 18:13

Nowhere near enough, sorry.

bloodywhitecat · 13/08/2019 18:13

We are both with Sky on 8GB plans and usually use 2-3GB a month, I use Google maps in the car and wi-fi at home, don't steam anything but do check emails/Facebook etc while out and about. We have managed to rollover 21GB since May between us.
