... to think 2GB a month is enough?

DC's and I are all on Sky plan, 2GB and unlimited calls / texts per month for £6 each. The benefit is that unused data can be dished out and as DD and I hardly use ours, this means DS1 and DS2 get between 3-4GB monthly each.

However, they are saying this isn't enough. AIBU to think that as they all use WiFi at home, this should be enough?

or am I woefully out of touch

My kids have 50 each now and I have 60. I look at large files on my phone. Our WiFi is often worse than the 4g.

userxx · 19/08/2019 19:00

I use less than 500 mb a month! I'm always hooked up to wifi, how do some people use so much! That's insane.

PrimalLass · 19/08/2019 19:01

The amount of data some of you are getting through is insane.

My phone is a business tool and I use it constantly. We live in a village with no cable WiFi and sometimes the 4g signal is faster. Not insane, just life.

PrimalLass · 19/08/2019 19:06

£15 for 50GB sim only if a BT customer. If they are offering that then why not take it.

origamiunicorn · 19/08/2019 19:06

It's definitely not enough, I use about 12 - 15GB a month. Luckily I have an unlimited plan.

origamiunicorn · 19/08/2019 19:08

How is everyone using so much? Do you not use wifi at all?

If I'm working from a coffee shop or train I hotspot off my phone if I can't connect to the WiFi (or there is none) and that just guzzles the data.

myself2020 · 19/08/2019 20:28

i have 5gb per month and use if. however, i have a long commute (1.5 hours twice a day) and do all our online shopping plus work on the train with it.

5 isn’t enough. Although the 17 year old should be funding his own

Gottoloveabagel · 20/08/2019 07:06

This has been a real eye opener!! My teen is on PAYG!! She isn't a social media fiend and manages fine! I'm considering which plan to put her on but wanted to do PAYG to find out what I needed.

I've a friend who gives her 9 year old loads of data just so she can watch YouTube in the car, seems weird to me and unnecessary! Perhaps limiting data would solve some of the social media issues these teens are having to deal with!!!

Wildboar · 20/08/2019 07:08

Sky have an offer on their 8gb plan which is a fraction more than what you’re paying. If you have sky tv too I’ll only be £5 per month.

PlatoAteMySnozcumber · 20/08/2019 11:17

These teens surely aren’t all working full time out of cafes with their data though? There is a difference between what a working adult without WiFi needs compared with a teen’s leisure browsing.

I don’t yet have teenagers but I find it interesting that many don’t expect them to moderate their internet use when out and about.

Bigger battles to fight when data isn't expensive.

@user1471590586 @wildboar we are new to Sky and don't have Sky tv.

I used to have 5gb a month and always went over. I now have 10gb have never gone over since. I use wifi at work and at home, work and home is only 10 mins apart. I would say 10gb min
