To think that males should not be competing against biological females in sports

Another sporting body, this time Australian cricket, now allow anyone born male to self identify as a woman and compete in women's sports.

At the same time new "inclusion rules" say it's a breach for women to refuse to compete with trans athletes, use the wrong pronoun for them or say they're uncomfortable sharing the changing rooms with them.

AIBU to think that this is the beginning of the end for women's sports if allowed to continue?

And how can women fight against this if they are not allowed to speak out?

Like HeadSpin5 said, competing mixed-sex required very different training for single-sex and just works very differently. I'm not against it as a separate clear option, even with the higher risks, but I don't think it should be the default and making single-sex mixed by self-identity makes no sense and to me is dishonest and isn't in the spirit of fair compeititon.

Yeah, USA powerlifting and the International Powerlifting Federation have thankfully been very clear on remaining single-sex, to the point of removing records & awards from competitions that didn't follow this. There are some informal non-official open powerlifting competitions that don't follow these rules, but they also don't follow the anti-doping rules either (and I've heard more than one powerlifter pretty much equate the two), but everyone knows that going in which, without that, there doesn't seem to be much point.

YANBU

BentNeckLady · 09/08/2019 13:40

Yanbu at all. All men in woman’s sport are fucking cheats.

SlipperyLizard · 09/08/2019 14:15

YANBU, this has got to stop. We have women’s sport for a reason, and this will destroy it. I feel so sorry for female athletes being denied spaces on teams and places on podiums by men who can’t play at the level they’d like in male sport, so decide to “become a woman” and win there instead.

Grossly misogynistic to think that this is acceptable, and to think the women’s sport is so unimportant that it doesn’t matter if a few men start playing. It does matter, and women the world over are waking up to this issue.

Sexnotgender · 09/08/2019 14:50

YANBU. It’s a fucking disgrace. That is all.

I will admit to only a very shallow knowledge of this subject, so I'm curious. Are there any female to male trans people trying to compete in mens' competitions/sports?

SpiceUpYourRice · 09/08/2019 18:17

Was on twitter earlier today following a thread talking about this issue and the comments are just horrific -- people are blaming feminism for it because "women wanted equality and now that they've got it, they realise that they don't actually want to be equal, but superior to men".

Complete and utter bollocks.

Yes, I've seen a number of comments online following the Caster Semenya banning, from men, along the lines that the womens' category should be done away with because "women want to be equal and are now complaining when they've got it" and because they are slow and no-one interested in watching them. And then they trot out a line about how women tennis players only play 3 sets.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 09/08/2019 18:35

YADNBU. Men who compete in women's sports are cheats. Plain and simple.

swissmilk · 09/08/2019 18:43

Death of women's sports no question.

When will all this madness end?
I was talking at work about the death of female sports and how a male prisoner who identified as female got a actual female cell mate pregnant and this thick student intern said 'brilliant, lucky her getting some in prison!' I shot the student an incredulous look and she said 'as long as it's consensual'.
I tried to argue, but you could tell she just thought I was a dinosaur from another planet and obviously a horrible bigot (despite me being as lefty and tolerant as they come).

I just thought....roll on global warning/distraction after that....

IdaBWells · 09/08/2019 18:44

There are so few people who agree with this, it is clearly ridiculous and a mockery of women!!!!!!!

What appears to be happening is extremely wealthy men who identify as trans have pushed this ideology from the top. Taking idiotic ideology of the likes of Judith Butler as their justification for denying biology and even having the gall to say it doesn’t exist. They are teaching our children at schools and unis to accept this utter cobblers.

This is misogyny of the highest order. Love how they can’t wait to take our places in prize winning sports but I don’t see them volunteering to care for the elderly or do all the tedious care work women always do. They just want the sexy ME, ME, ME version of “women” that exists in their febrile fantasies.

Campervan69 · 09/08/2019 20:07

It just all feel so hopeless and women are so powerless compared to the power that men have in this world.

And then I see women who do have power and they're not supporting women either.

Great post ida.

Posted today on a running forum on the parkrun thread:

So, just back from parkrun with my daughter. One of her female course records has just been smashed by 20 seconds by a woman she hasn't heard of on the local scene. Turns out that the runner in question announced only this month on social media that she was transitioning from male to female. What can I possibly say in this world we live in today other than "that sucks"?

So sad. And not right.

Theyellowsquare · 10/08/2019 15:14

I played under 9, 11 and 13 cricket, the first and only girl on the team. By the end of under 13s/ beginning of under 15s, puberty was kicking for the boys. I couldn't compete with their strength and joined a ladies team that was more my level.

OvaHere · 10/08/2019 17:15

That's awful berlinbabylon even at the most amateur levels women and girls deserve an equitable playing field.

As more and more of these men takeover women and girls will become disheartened and drop out thinking that sport is pointless and not for them.

Fraggling · 10/08/2019 17:38

Yes that's true

This is seen as a 'women's issue' I think though.

Like most of the stuff men do to fuck us over for some reason it's a 'women's issue' not a person issue.

I think most men will not be fussed (why watch women's sport its slow and shit) and some will be actively pleased women are being put in their place.

Fraggling · 10/08/2019 17:40

Altough there's the ogling factor.

Maybe they will keep some sports for bio women. Tennis, beach volleyball. Gymnasrics. You know. The sports that give the best view of young sometimes underage girls.
