To be terrified I'm too old for a baby

I'm now 35 and don't have a child, although would absolutely love one. I've got a boyfriend and in the near future we would love to start trying for a baby.

Because of my age I'm a bit nervous about whether we will be able to conceive quickly. Please tell me, if you were over 35 when you had a baby and how long did it take to conceive? Thanks Smile

Sorry, and please tell me your age when you conceived too.

Hi there. I was 37 and it took me 2 months x

noeyedeer · 26/07/2019 18:57

My best friend started TTC at 37. Hit lucky on first go. Another friend had hers first go at 38 and 41. Another has struggled at 37, the had twins. My first, fell pregnant at 29 after a year of trying. Second 33, straight away. You really don't know until you start trying.

coconuttelegraph · 26/07/2019 18:58

You don't need to know my personal details for me to assure you that 1000s of babies are born every year to mothers over 35, and 40 and even 45.

I'm sure you can look up the statistics but that's all they are - facts - they have no effect on how easily you will or won't concieve but good luck if that's what you decide to do

GrindelWaldPie · 26/07/2019 18:58

My mum was 37 when she had my brother. He apparently took 1 cycle. She was 39 and she had me and I took 2.

I know loads of mums with babies much older than 35. You're still very much a spring chicken Smile

Paraballa · 26/07/2019 18:58

I had my second aged 39. I know someone who got unexpectedly pregnant aged 47.

BabyMoonPie · 26/07/2019 18:58

Took us 8 months at 35

Willyoubuymeahouseofgold · 26/07/2019 18:58

36 ... 2 months😁
Good luck! No way too old xxx

statetrooperstacey · 26/07/2019 19:00

37 and two months, you’re not too old , good luck.

InMyOwnParticularIdiom · 26/07/2019 19:00

My grandmother conceived at 48 and thought it was the menopause... turned out to be my dad

eurochick · 26/07/2019 19:00

You can't know until you try. We started ttc when I was 34. I had a baby when I was 38. All tests were fine - unexplained infertility.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 26/07/2019 19:00

I was 36, had my Mirena removed at the start of October, pregnant by Christmas, good luck!

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/07/2019 19:01

I had four dc since turning 35 twins took 8 months other baby one month last baby 14 months ( had a miscarriage first)
I really would not worry at 35.

swingofthings · 26/07/2019 19:01

A relative of mine was 45 when she conceived her first (and obviously only!) child. She met her partner at 40. It did take her a while and one miscarriage but she got what she wanted more than anything in the end.

mynameiscalypso · 26/07/2019 19:01

We conceived the night of my 35th birthday (had been trying for a while though!)

iklboo · 26/07/2019 19:02

I was 36. SIL was 41. MIL was 43 when she had BIL3. All very healthy babies.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/07/2019 19:02

Sorry missed last part of op. Conceived age 35, 36 and 41.

Tableclothing · 26/07/2019 19:04
  1. Pregnant within 3 weeks of starting trying.
Cwtches123 · 26/07/2019 19:04

Met Dh in Jan when I was 36, married in August and started TTC as soon as we were married. I was pregnant in the second month. TTC no2 when I was almost 39, took about 5 months, I was 40 when dc2 arrived.

I had a history of gyne problems and didn't think I would ever have kids. First marriage was infertile, exdh had zero sperm count!

Shmithecat2 · 26/07/2019 19:04

Took us a year of non intense TTC before I was pregnant. Pregnant at 39, ds was born when I was 40 (DH was 46).

torthecatlady · 26/07/2019 19:05

Not me personally. I don't have my own children yet, but my mum was 32 having my brother and 38 having me Smile Hoping to have my first soon (ivf) by 30 and hopefully a second around 35 if possible.

DBP1234 · 26/07/2019 19:05

Had similar concerns as you, met my now husband at 35..... 38 when I started TTC, took 6 months from stopping the pill.
Currently pregnant with my second - after a couple of moths of trying - will be 40 in a few months.

Milicentbystander72 · 26/07/2019 19:06

I had my second at 35 first time trying.

My best friend got married at 40 and had her first child at 41 no problem. Had second at 43.

You'll be fine op.

MushySeas · 26/07/2019 19:07

34, still trying. 35 was my 'cut off' for trying so I know what you mean but now I'm getting to 35, it doesn't seem as old as I used to think it was.

SallyLovesCheese · 26/07/2019 19:07

2 years to conceive finally at age 36, ended in mc. 5 more months to conceive again, baby born aged 37.
