To be terrified I'm too old for a baby

Zippylove · 26/07/2019 18:54

I'm now 35 and don't have a child, although would absolutely love one. I've got a boyfriend and in the near future we would love to start trying for a baby.

Because of my age I'm a bit nervous about whether we will be able to conceive quickly. Please tell me, if you were over 35 when you had a baby and how long did it take to conceive? Thanks Smile

Took me 3 months to conceive DD at 35. As opposed to 2 years to conceive DS2 at 25!

I also had an unplanned pregnancy (contraception failure) at 41.

My two best friends have had babies or are currently pregnant at 43 & 44.

You are not too old. Health is far more important.

Daffodil2018 · 26/07/2019 19:29

I was 35 and got pregnant almost immediately when we started trying. Within my first period cycle. Now 36 with a healthy, happy 6 month old DD!

MadameJosephine · 26/07/2019 19:31

I met DP when I was 35 and started ttc at 36. DD was finally conceived when I was 40 and born when I was 41.

However, I also know several oriole who have conceived in late 30’s early 40’s with no bother at all, you’ll never know until you start trying

Best of luck Flowers

35 is not old. On average you will take a bit longer than if you were 25 but that's all.

Mischone · 26/07/2019 19:32

My grandmother conceived at 48 and thought it was the menopause... turned out to be my dad Grin Grin

My DM fell pregnant with me at 38, very quickly.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 26/07/2019 19:35

Roughly two years at 34 but dh had lowe sperm count. Anout two months at 38.

justasking111 · 26/07/2019 19:36

In our family three women 29, 37, 38, and 44. All within two months.

PennyPitStop19 · 26/07/2019 19:36

I was 38 conceived at first try. I wish I’d been younger though but I am very aware I was so lucky to not have difficulty.

HildegardCrowe · 26/07/2019 19:36

Try not to panic! I had my first (and only) child at 42. I decided when I was 40 that it was now or never and feel very blessed that I conceived and gave birth to a besutiful baby girl. It did take me nearly a year to get pregnant though.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 26/07/2019 19:38

Age 37 took about 6-8 months. 2 years later Dc2 took less time (born a month before my 40th).

BirdIsland · 26/07/2019 19:38

I conceived on my 36th birthday, first month trying.

bobsyourauntie · 26/07/2019 19:38

BowiesJumper · 26/07/2019 19:42

34 when I conceived number one on 2nd cycle.
38 when I conceived number two on first cycle.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 26/07/2019 19:42

I had my first at 38 and my second at 40 - got pregnant the first round after stopping the pill.

Paddington68 · 26/07/2019 19:44

My sister has her second at 48!

LillyLeaf · 26/07/2019 19:44

Until you try you'll never know what hand you'll be dealt. I'm one of the unlucky ones. Started ttc when I was 34, 36 now, no baby, 2 IVF transfers and 2 miscarriages. Unexplained infertility. I wouldn't delay too long but from what I've been through my opinion is clouded.

Marilynmansonsthermos · 26/07/2019 19:44

37 and took a week or two, no problems!

Icecreambythesea · 26/07/2019 19:45

I was 36 and it took 2 months. Lots of people around me are having children in their early 40s. You'll be fine OP.

Elisa1976 · 26/07/2019 19:45

Took over two and a half years, but ended up pregnant at 38. Second only took a month to conceive, am now 42 and baby due in next few weeks.
35 is not old. It's difficult to say how long it will be take but try to relax if you can. Wish you all the very best.

hellymart · 26/07/2019 19:47

You're not too old but you have to make things happen - don't just sit back and hope for the best. If you can afford it, get a life coach. They will work through all your plans and aspirations with you and you can think about options. Good luck and go for it!

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 26/07/2019 19:48

First at 35, nearly 36 pregnant first month.
Second age 38 again first month of ttc
Youngest I was 40 took 4 months to conceive.

minipie · 26/07/2019 19:49

Honestly no one can tell you whether it will be difficult for you. However age is only one of the factors affecting fertility. So there are plenty of women who conceive easily at 35+ and plenty who struggle at younger ages. All we know is across the whole population it seems to get harder to conceive as you get older but who knows where you sit in the statistical range!

Start trying, do it properly (ie track your cycles and use ovulation sticks and time sex for the right days, or DTD every couple of days all month) and if it doesn’t happen within 6 months get yourselves to the GP for tests... that’s all you can do really. Oh and take folic acid from now!

Hadalifeonce · 26/07/2019 19:51

41 and about 2 weeks

Crunchymum · 26/07/2019 19:52

Unplanned pregnancy when I was 37.

Was CD6 and we used a condom.
