To be terrified I'm too old for a baby

I'm now 35 and don't have a child, although would absolutely love one. I've got a boyfriend and in the near future we would love to start trying for a baby.

Because of my age I'm a bit nervous about whether we will be able to conceive quickly. Please tell me, if you were over 35 when you had a baby and how long did it take to conceive? Thanks Smile

Took 9 months to achieve first pregnancy, aged 28 . . . early miscarriage.

Took 4 months to achieve second pregnancy, aged 34, early miscarriage.

Took 10 months to achieve third pregnancy, aged 35, early miscarriage.

Took 0 months to achieve fourth pregnancy, aged 35. Had DC1 !

Took 0 months to achieve fifth pregnancy, aged 36. Had DC2.

Accident , ok getting pissed, achieved pregnancy with DC3, aged 42.

I think I am a late bloomer.

I have posted this before - both my maternal grandmothers had babies when they were 48. I reckon I could have done so too.

Courage and good cheer !! Flowers

I was 29 & 31 years with both of my DS’, fell the first month of TTC with them both.

You have years ahead of you OP, you definitely aren’t to old.

Good luck, I hope you have some happy news very soon.

Doormat247 · 26/07/2019 20:33

I just conceived at 35 - we weren't trying. I did also conceive 5mths ago for the first ever time. Both were accidental.

I'd assumed I was probably getting too old so unlikely to happen for me - especially as id had unprotected sex with previous partners and never got pregnant.

I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. It's likely you'll have far less trouble than you're assuming.

Both my grandparents conceived in their 40s with no issue and so did my mother.

Herefortheduration · 26/07/2019 20:33

I was 34 and 38 when I had mine, the one at 38 took 2 months of ttc. My youngest is now 13 and everything has always been totally normal, never obviously the oldest mum at the school gates, in fact I know of several older. I've always been fit and healthy and have been active with them. You have plenty of time yet.

IQuit3 · 26/07/2019 20:33

37, pregnant first month of trying

AlbertWinestein · 26/07/2019 20:35

My friend will be 47 when she gives birth to her first later this year. They tried for 5 months apparently but had a, “If it works, it works. If not, no worries” attitude towards the whole thing

Imicola · 26/07/2019 20:35

I was 36 and it took about 3 months. Everyone is different so I would try not to worry about your age!

Flev · 26/07/2019 20:36

I'm now 41 and I have a 9 month old - took us 5 months to conceive.

PrincessC0nsuela · 26/07/2019 20:37

I was 37 and it took one month x

mimbleandlittlemy · 26/07/2019 20:39

Conceived at age 37, baby born when I was 38. Came off Pill, pregnant 2 weeks later.

spiderlight · 26/07/2019 20:40

35 - total accident about a month after i decided to start using Persona contraceptive system.

My mum was 47 when she had me.

CreekyBeaky · 26/07/2019 20:40

I had my first at 35, I wasn’t trying hard, not timing my cycle or anything. A friend of mine just got pregnant at 35 too, she took 3 months.

Raffles1981 · 26/07/2019 20:41

36 and it took me three months after having my implant removed.

brummiesue · 26/07/2019 20:41

1st accident at 34, second first month planned at 35, 3rd unplanned post map at 36, 4th 3 cycles planned at 38. However that means absolutely nothing to you or your chance of conceiving as we are different people. This thread will not help you in the slightest, just start trying and see what happens.

MaeveDidIt · 26/07/2019 20:43

28 staightaway
41 six months ish
Don't fret you are still young by today's standards☺

Thatnovembernight · 26/07/2019 20:43

Age 32 - first go after coming off the pill
Age 35 - 3 cycles after coming off the pill

Ticklemeelmo · 26/07/2019 20:46

I am 38 and pregnant with my first, it took 3 months. I know plenty of women who have had babies over 40, as well as a few fit and healthy people in their 30s who've not been able to conceive.

I was told before trying and think it's good advice that it is a lottery to some degree and you won't really know until you start trying. You can get blood tests to check hormone levels prior to trying, could be worth speaking to your GP before you start. Think the odds at 35 are very good though.

SuzieBishop · 26/07/2019 20:47

33 - took us 6 months. 35 - literally had sex once the first month we were TTC. You are NOT too old OP, there’s no age limit to be an amazing mum.

Proseccoagain · 26/07/2019 20:48

6 months at 36. Conceived the day before my 37th birthday!

MaryShelley1818 · 26/07/2019 20:49

I’m 41 with a 1-yr old. Took 4mths to conceive and currently ttc number 2.

Gillian1980 · 26/07/2019 20:51

Had my dd at 35... took 2 months to conceive.
Ds it took 3 months to conceive at 39.

1 miscarriage in between which took 1 month to conceive.

CarlaJones · 26/07/2019 20:53
  1. 3 cycles (of timing it at the right time)
