To ask which one is your favourite Greek island?

and why?

Me and my boyfriend are looking for a one week holiday in Greece in August - I know it's hot which is what we love and I know it is expensive but that's just unfortunately how it is if you want to travel in August.

We would like to visit an island where you can relax, enjoy the nice beaches as well as doing something cultural or different. Anything you can think of that you visited on a Greek island and was a great experience?

Any advice would be helpful! We are thinking of going for a week.

Aegina, you can get to mainland Greece quite quickly for day trips.

Beautiful, quiet, if you want that.

merlotqueen · 17/07/2019 22:23

*as in Athens for all the cultural stuff

Pastaalldaylong · 17/07/2019 22:24

We went last August. Crete. Travelled around a bit and was beautiful

stucknoue · 17/07/2019 22:24

I liked Rhodes, just choose the quieter side if you aren't wanting the party scene. Ixia is close to Rhodes town and a bit less party central. Great ruins, museum and affordable

ethelfleda · 17/07/2019 22:24

Zakynthos is lovely if you go to one of the smaller resorts.
I also love Rhodes and am yet to visit Santorini.
Either way, I love the Greek islands. I’m very jealous - have a great time!

Athens is stunning. Santorini is a 45 min flight from there. The views are stunning and there are old ruins of a civilisation there.

Mummyh2016 · 17/07/2019 22:25

I didn't like Corfu at all, Crete and Rhodes are nice.

MotherOfSoupDragons · 17/07/2019 22:26

I thought Rhodes was horrid.

Iwantacookie · 17/07/2019 22:30

Kos is beautiful. I definitely recommend a boat tour

kittlesticks · 17/07/2019 22:31

Naxos has beautiful beaches.

highheelsandbobblehats · 17/07/2019 22:31

Santorini is absolutely spectacular. Not great for beaches though. But if you like to walk, and explore, I couldn't recommend it highly enough. Also, hire a car. Game changer. People will tell you that Santorini is small. It is when compared to the UK. But it's not as small as you'd think. The car allowed us to go all over with complete freedom.

mokapot · 17/07/2019 22:31

Ios

mokapot · 17/07/2019 22:32

Naxos too

NewPapaGuinea · 17/07/2019 22:32

Love Rhodes, Lindos especially. Went to Thassos a few years ago and was nice, but wouldn’t rush back. Very green and cheap, local red wine.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 17/07/2019 22:33

Kefelona is absolutely stunning!

CareBear50 · 17/07/2019 22:33

I've been to Paros, ios, Mykonos and Santorini. My two favourites were definitely Mykonos and Paros....both v v beautiful

MinesaPinot · 17/07/2019 22:34

Samos for me

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 17/07/2019 22:34

Sorry.. Kefelonia

ilovesooty · 17/07/2019 22:35

Crete. That's because I now have a regular hotel which feels like home from home and I have made wonderful friends there.

buttonup26 · 17/07/2019 22:35

Just got back from our third visit to Kefalonia, its stunning. Would also recommend Thassos, been there twice.

Fabvegetablegrower · 17/07/2019 22:35

Thassos is lovely

brimfullofasha · 17/07/2019 22:36

We loved kefalonia and liked Zakinthos and Rhodes too.

Nemesia1264 · 17/07/2019 22:38

Samos was nice, about 25 years ago since I visited though. Rhodes -wouldn't return-couldn't cope with the mosquitos-absolutely teaming with them. Have also visited Crete -Chania has a very beautiful harbour-almost like Venice.

TamzinGrey · 17/07/2019 22:43

Beautiful Andros - where all the rich Greeks have their holiday homes, or Halki, which is small but perfect. Both are easy to get to.

Please don't go to Santorini unless you'd enjoy seeing hordes of donkeys and mules being beaten and forced to carry obese tourists up the steep climb from the harbour. Broke my heart and I'll never go there again.

OrangeCinnamon · 17/07/2019 22:44

Kefalonia or Santorini have been the most stunning for me. Santorini easier to get around on buses etc but quite Marks and Spensive. We stayed in Kamari which is a beach family resort and travelled by bus to Oia etc.

Kefalonia greener but just as stunning recommend car hire to explore. We ended up in the mountains with goats after getting very lost on a temporary road.
