To ask which one is your favourite Greek island?

and why?

Me and my boyfriend are looking for a one week holiday in Greece in August - I know it's hot which is what we love and I know it is expensive but that's just unfortunately how it is if you want to travel in August.

We would like to visit an island where you can relax, enjoy the nice beaches as well as doing something cultural or different. Anything you can think of that you visited on a Greek island and was a great experience?

Any advice would be helpful! We are thinking of going for a week.

Skiathos, been 3 times and will be going again. Lovely small island, loads of lovely beaches, easy to get around and great places to eat.

Skiathos - fairly unknown but lovely beaches and can easily do boat trips to other islands for sightseeing.

Kefalonia is lovely.

Rhodes for me, Pefkos. Beautiful.

Been to quite a few OP but really Crete is our favourite in particular Platanias as a resort. Can't beat spending the evening in Chania sitting watching the sun set in the old Venetian style harbour or even better take a sunset cruise. After that there are numerous cobbled streets to explore with lovely shops/bars/restaurants.
Rhodes used to be lovely but is a bit run down these days. Kos and Zante are both quite nice ditto Thassos which is quiet but there's not much to do there. Santorini is VERY pretty but in my book Crete trumps them all as there is so much to do - it is the biggest island after all. Hope you have a great time OP whatever you decide.

Saying that one of my most enjoyable experiences was treading grapes in Crete!

Sifnos and Kythira.

Beyond beautiful. Didn’t see/ hear another English tourist the entire time.

Please have a look at San Stafanos in Corfu. It is truly gorgeous. I can't recommend it enough.

Packs is stunning, especially Loggos. It is quiet and peaceful, fantastic food. Utter bliss.

I love Paxos but generally not much availability late as it’s so small. Of the bigger islands Kefalonia and Zante are my favourites. I hated Kos, horrible place, especially in the North.

Paxos is like heaven on earth

Naxos. Can't fly there from the uk though, you have to fly to Mykonos or Santorini and get the ferry.
We loved it because it felt so authentically Greek/less touristy than the others. Lovely beach bars, cute little old town, lovely restaurants. In all honesty though if I had a week I'd do more than one island...fly to Mykonos for a couple of nights, ferry to Naxos for 2-3 nights then onto Santorini and fly back from there!

Zakinthos with the turtles, not been for a while so might have been destroyed for the tourists 😞

My favourite Greek islands are the really sleepy untouristy ones. I loved Alonissos and Amorgos. Paxos is nice but busier, lots of boaty types, a good place to rent a boat and explore if you like that idea.

If you like sandy beaches I would point you at Skiathos (but avoid Skiathos Town) Naxos or Paros.

Another vote for Kefalonia!

Evil is lovely - alongside the Bay of Marathon so easy access from Athens. It’s like the islands were 25 years ago.
I also loved Paros and Naxos.
