To ask which one is your favourite Greek island?

and why?

Me and my boyfriend are looking for a one week holiday in Greece in August - I know it's hot which is what we love and I know it is expensive but that's just unfortunately how it is if you want to travel in August.

We would like to visit an island where you can relax, enjoy the nice beaches as well as doing something cultural or different. Anything you can think of that you visited on a Greek island and was a great experience?

Any advice would be helpful! We are thinking of going for a week.

Skala is great, but the beaches are largely quite stony so you need beach shoes . I don't find it a problem though. Fiskardo is the upmarket end with lots of yachts and mega rich people around, but it is pretty. Skala is generally laid back and everything is easy to get to. Great boat trips, walking in the cooler months. The food is simple but great. I live on fresh fish and salad when I go. Unfortunately all the hotels are going half board or all inclusive so that stops people eating out when there are so many great tavernas. The locals are lovely and the jewellery there is great as there are some independent jewellery designers who make their own jewellery. The quality is so much better than here and the prices lower.
Samos is beautiful - Captain Corelli's Mandolin was filmed there.

Could anyone recommend a place to stay in Koutouloufari please?

I know someone who stayed at the Kreta blue suites, their child got chicken pox and they had to stay on. The owners couldnt do enough for them and when they were fully booked found a reduced rate villa for them. We stayed actually in Hersonissos which I wouldn't recommend but walked up the hill to the villages. Saying that Star beach was fun and the rural museum was where we had a great laugh treading grapes and trying local wine.
