To call my dog Blanche?

I posted on here a few days ago regarding getting a Boxer or a Doberman. I went to see the Doberman puppies yesterday and fell in love. DH is coming back with me today and we’re likely to be reserving one.

Dog will be ready to come home in 3 weeks.

I don’t like traditional dog names and when we were looking at getting a boxer I was going to call her Blanche.

WIBU to keep this name for a Dobie?? It doesn’t seem to fit as well! But I can’t think of anything else!

I think it’s great.

Letthemysterybe · 05/07/2019 07:19

It sounds like a good dog name to me.

Also,

Maud
Doris
Winnie
Mabel

SagAloojah · 05/07/2019 07:21

Call her Blanche DuBois.

vampirethriller · 05/07/2019 07:21

I like it

newmomof1 · 05/07/2019 07:22

I actually love it!

Saucery · 05/07/2019 07:23

I’d love to meet a Dobe called Blanche in the park!

LKRJM · 05/07/2019 07:23

So glad you went with a Dobie, ours is called Heidi as we went for something German but I love Blanche x

Ferfeckssake · 05/07/2019 07:24

But would you be willing to wear a vest all the time , doing a Marlon Brando voice and shout " Blaaanche ' every time you called the dog ?Grin
I would love to hear that on the park !

BeanBag7 · 05/07/2019 07:26

I would only use this name on a white dog. It just sounds like a white dog name to me.

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/07/2019 07:26

Blanche is a lovely name. I'd wander off remembering the Golden Girls but thinking the meaning of the name didn't fit the dog because it means pale.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 05/07/2019 07:26

Absolutely your choice but my inner pedant would think it slightly odd because Blanche means white and dobies are usually dark.

Lockheart · 05/07/2019 07:34

It's a nice name but Blanche does mean white. However if that doesn't bother you then fill your boots, it's your dog!

cava14una · 05/07/2019 07:35

Don't think the colour connotation matters. In fact I like it it's quirky. People I got my cats from have a cat named Mouse and a tortoise named Shelley. Two of my cats were Blanche and Rose (Tenko)

OddHoleySocks · 05/07/2019 07:35

It brings to mind a picture of an ineffectual dog owner trying to get their dog to come back when it's off-lead, the owner calling 'blaaannche' in a very posh English voice and the dog paying no attention whatsoever. I'm sure that doesn't describe you at all, BTW!

It just doesn't sound like a great name to get a dog to stop and pay attention to you. But I'm sure you'll make it work.

Its a great name though and it's unlikely you'll come across too many other doggy Blanche's.

NoSauce · 05/07/2019 07:37

No! It’s bloody awful. Horrible sounding name.

Honeyroar · 05/07/2019 07:37

I’d find it strange used on a dark coloured dog too. I’d think that you were trying to be funny with the name.

DeadBod · 05/07/2019 07:37

I think a Dobe needs a name like Steve or Dave.

thenightsky · 05/07/2019 07:48

I once knew a dobie called Nigel.

SweatyYFronts · 05/07/2019 08:05

Oh I didn’t know it meant white! Shit that’s put me off :-( the dog is black.

I like the names Dorothy, Maud, Xen, Maureen and Willow but DH doesn’t like Willow - said it sounds like a dogs name 🤔

My frenchie is called Derek

How about Sally, Esme (have fun confusing dozens of children and parents), or Estelle to continue the Golden Girls theme.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 05/07/2019 08:42

Also the Golden Girls, cava!

It's lovely, ignored the grump on the thread! I adore old lady/man names for dogs.

Violetroselily · 05/07/2019 08:43

I love Maud or Maureen

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 05/07/2019 08:43

Anyway you could be being ironic. I would love to have a tortoise called Usain!

omione · 05/07/2019 08:53

Great name, my friend had a dobie called Twinkle

Zaeem5 · 05/07/2019 09:01

But why would you call a brown / black dog Blanche? Confused Or is it an albino?
