There is nothing, nothing I say, that cannot be recreated in veg form Grin

I tried this recently because I love jerky. It was OK I suppose but absolutely no substitute for meat jerky. Sorry.

Lessstressedhemum · 24/06/2019 12:32

That stuff is delicious.
I had vegan slice sausage the other day. It's the first time in 40 years I've been able to eat a roll and slice and potato scone. I was so happyGrin

scaryteacher · 24/06/2019 12:32

Smoked streaky bacon; there can be no substitute for the real thing; or the crackling from a roast pork joint; the slightly pink middle of a medium steak, or the skin from a freshly roasted chicken.

mummymeister · 24/06/2019 12:33

...but generally it tastes disgusting! sorry I just cannot get worked up about a nice juicy piece of quorn/synthetic shite. I love eating veggies but its the faux sausages, burgers and now jerky that I just cant be doing with and never will. Eating less meat - yep good idea but quorn and its friends taste like chemicals to me.

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 12:34

No need to apologise rec, it just amuses me that people stop eating meat, to eat fake meat.

Crass12 · 24/06/2019 12:35

Maybe, but there are a lot of people who like meat. Interesting and worth a try for vegetarians and vegans though

happyhillock · 24/06/2019 12:35

Just love roast's, steak, sausages, lamb chops and spag bol, no intentions of giving up meat, everyone to there own.

DugHug · 24/06/2019 12:35

It’s made with soya and wheat. Loads of people won’t be able to eat that. But virtually nobody is allergic to meat. YABU to say it’s a reasonable alternative until they stop using allergens as meat substitutes.

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 12:36

@scaryteacher, you are wrong - look here

Oh, there's every need to eat meat. Especially red meat: beef and lamb.

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 12:38

IANBU. I was joking!

JQBased · 24/06/2019 12:38

I know too many vegans and vegetarians that are so thin, unhealthy and have the fitness level of 105 year old that I couldn't care any less what substitute there is for meat, no way I'm converting!

Abra1de · 24/06/2019 12:38

Lots of those alternatives aren’t so wholesome when you look at the ingredients.

VeryImportantTests · 24/06/2019 12:39

If that jerky is the stuff from Aldi, it made me vomit in my mouth.

AudacityOfHope · 24/06/2019 12:42

I looked at the ingredients of a vegan burger and the main ingredient was a mixture of six kinds of oil, cold-pressed.

I'd rather bite into a cow's arse than suck back a pint of oil pressed into a burger shape.

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 12:42

Ooo yum Envy not envy

fromthefloorboardsup · 24/06/2019 12:42

@JQBased are all the meat eaters you know super fit and healthy? Not really helpful to generalise like this - all types of diet can be unhealthy...

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 12:44

mushroom mince it’s just minced up mushrooms Grin

AryaStarkWolf · 24/06/2019 12:47

What is with all the veggie/vegan bashing threads here lately? And people claim that vegans are the rude ones Hmm

Abra1de · 24/06/2019 12:48

I like waitrose own-brand bean burgers. But anything pretending to be meat just doesn’t seem that great.

Nextphonewontbesamsung · 24/06/2019 12:49

Odd that so many posters haven't picked up on your tone op Flowers.

No wonder people resort to putting "light hearted" in thread titles.

forkfun · 24/06/2019 12:50

I know lots of omnivores that are underweight/overweight/unfit/have acne, etc. What's your point?

ItWentInMyEye · 24/06/2019 12:53

I'm a vegetarian who's never tried meat, and I don't understand why I'm supposed to want a fake steak that 'bleeds' 🤷🏼‍♀️ or a vegan KFC burger.

Pinkmouse6 · 24/06/2019 12:53

Lots of meat alternatives aren’t good enough for actual meat eaters. My DP is a meat eater and I’m a veggie so he’s tried lots of meat alternatives. He says a lot of tastes the same but the bacon (or facon as I call it) doesn’t cut the mustard.

forkfun · 24/06/2019 12:54

I know. If you don't want to eat some overprocessed crap, don't do it. But to pretend that this is a) what the average vegan mainly eats and b) that this makes a vegan diet unhealthy is just poor reasoning.
