There is nothing, nothing I say, that cannot be recreated in veg form Grin

Thanks next

And whose ‘veggie bashing’?

Well I bought it anyway as I’ve never tasted jerky and it was delicious tasted like shoe leather

I've recently gone veggie, so remember the taste of meat. No veggie bacon or ham tastes as good as the real thing. You can make delicious vegetarian meals with vegetables and pulses though. Not every veggie eats them.

mummmy2017 · 24/06/2019 13:03

Just about to order an 8oz steak with DD who is here on holiday ..
It's allowed. I love meat

19lottie82 · 24/06/2019 13:06

I’m loling at the scene in gavin and Stacey where his mum is pretending to be a veggie and eating her “veggie” sausages which are actually normal sausages. Then someone asks to try them, “oh, you really can’t tell the difference”! 😂

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 13:08

Enjoy @mummy2017 Smile

Honestly... (assuming most posters are from the UK) here.... I thought this country totally accepted vegetarians/vegans.
I'm not a vegetarian at the moment but one of the reasons I left my home country was the constant barrage from non-vegetarians as soon as I mentioned my eating habits.
So disappointing.
And also you can choose to be a vegetarian even of you like (and miss) the taste of meat.

HugsAreMyDrugs · 24/06/2019 13:20

Surely if meat eaters like meat so much they wouldn't need to make burgers or sausages out of cows and pigs; they would simply eat the meat straight from the animal in it's unprocessed form.

Yet they don't. They reshape and flavour the meat so it no longer resembles the animal it comes from. Strange Grin.

pigsDOfly · 24/06/2019 13:20

I don't eat meat but I do eat fish.

I used to enjoy meat but gave up meat for health reasons. I really have no desire to eat things that are pretending to be meat so why on earth would someone who is vegetarian or vegan want to eat pretend burgers or bacon.

Out of interest I've just googled vegetarian fish substitute and a load of things came up with the best vegetarian fish and chips.

How the hell can it be 'fish' and chips? It's tofu coated in batter and fried then served up with chips. It's tofu and chips.

And again why would a vegetarian or vegan want to eat something that is pretending to be fish?

NannyRed · 24/06/2019 13:23

Whilst you are technically correct, there is no need to eat meat, sometimes people like things without actually needing them.
Wearing nice clothes rather than old sackcloth, wearing makeup rather than scrubbing nes face with soap, having carpet rather than bare boards etc.

My husband is vegetarian, I’m not, my choice. I cook vegetarian meals at home, my lentil shepherds pie is amazing. But my diabetes means I’m much better off eating meat and vegetables, salads, eggs etc rather than roast potatoes, bread, pasta. Even lentils play up my blood glucose.

How about, you live life your way, let other adults make their own choices and everyone is happy.

HugsAreMyDrugs · 24/06/2019 13:24

Probably for the same reason meat eaters eat burgers or bacon rather than just eat the cow or pig as it comes.

And again why would a vegetarian or vegan want to eat something that is pretending to be fish?

Why would a meat eater eat a fish that has been cooked, battered and flavoured to the point when it no longer resembles a fish when they could just skip that part and just eat the fish?

Most peculiar indeed Grin.

pigsDOfly · 24/06/2019 13:26

Not quite the same thing though is it?

InsertFunnyUsername · 24/06/2019 13:27

Oh yummy, really is no difference and you save an animal dont cha know, win win Wink

HugsAreMyDrugs · 24/06/2019 13:31

Why not?

A burger made from a processed, reshaped and seasoned cow vs a burger made from a processed, reshaped and seasoned soy bean.

Or fish and chips with a battered and fried fish vs a tofu and chips made from battered and fried tofu.

What's the difference?

CrumpetWithMarg · 24/06/2019 13:35

I think the thing is, it's not always about health - some people don't like the meat/dairy/egg industries and what animals are put through for a 'good steak'. I know lots of vegans who loved meat, miss the taste, but can't get passed what it involves.

HugsAreMyDrugs · 24/06/2019 13:36

Take a look at a meat based burger and a plant based burger. I think you will find neither resemble a cow Grin.

pigsDOfly · 24/06/2019 13:39

Because they are calling it fish and chips and it isn't fish and chips it's tofu and chips.

I imagine a burger made from soya isn't called a beef burger.

The reshaped fish or meat is fish or meat. Meat or fish eaters are eating meat or fish.

I don't understand why is you eschew meat or fish you want to eat something that is pretending to be meat. Surely it just needs to be presented as what it is without all the colouring or processing that makes it look like meat.

HugsAreMyDrugs · 24/06/2019 13:43

The reshaped fish or meat is fish or meat. Meat or fish eaters are eating meat or fish.

And the reshaped soy bean is still a soy bean. Vegetarians and vegans are still eating the soya and not a dead animal.

I don't understand why is you eschew meat or fish you want to eat something that is pretending to be meat.

It's not pretending to be meat. If it was pretending to be meat it would look like a cow.

Again, if meat eaters like meat so much then why do they process and flavour the meat until it no longer resembles the animal it comes from?

Yes, the sole purpose of this thread was to evangelise people into eating or not eating fake jerky Confused

HugsAreMyDrugs · 24/06/2019 13:45

Do people get this upset about fake leather or faux fur?

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 13:47

Good question Hugs Hmm

OP posts:
HugsAreMyDrugs · 24/06/2019 13:48

When I was single and not a vegan I ate a lot of fish fingers and chicken nuggets.

Now I am vegan but I still occasionally eat fishless fingers and vegan nuggets.

How come me eating those processed soya products is somehow wrong and confusing but me eating processed chicken and fish that defintley didn't resemble either animal was fine and acceptable?

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 13:49

Hmm this is me pondering
