There is nothing, nothing I say, that cannot be recreated in veg form Grin

I'm vege ( trying to be vegan but it's a process ) .. I gave up meant for ethical reasons and I enjoy alot meat substitutes . To answer the question why it's because I didn't give it up because of the taste , I just didn't want to eat animals anymore ..
vivera is a fabulous brand and make some great tasting food ( I never liked burgers so don't eat the bleeding type of fake burgers ) .. fwiw the quorn fish style fingers are great in sandwich .

goldface · 24/06/2019 20:12

Yeah I'm with gubbsy here, I like the quorn fish fingers in a sandwich too! And I agree, I didn't give up meat cos I didn't like it, I gave it up because I didn't want to eat animals

gubbsywubbsy · 24/06/2019 20:13

@goldface fab aren't they 😍😍

NCforthis2019 · 24/06/2019 20:13

That looks vile, yuck!

goldface · 24/06/2019 20:14

And I suppose that explains the difference in perspective really doesn't it? I don't look at meat burgers and sausages etc as food i look at them as dead animals and maybe meat eaters look at them as food and see some vege substitutes as rubbish fakes?
I'm not pushy with it by any means, my husband and one of the kids eat meat at home and when we are out and it doesn't bother me at all.

ILoveEurovision · 24/06/2019 20:19

What a goady mean-spirited thread OP.

mismo · 24/06/2019 20:30

Why buy a carton of orange juice when you could just eat an orange.

PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 21:26

Yes, @ILoveEurovision because all the joy has been sucked out of MN and we can only have very serious debates.

OP posts:
PinkyLovePerky · 24/06/2019 21:29

@gubbsywubbsy it really isn’t a process. Do you want to eat vegan or not? Just do it. Or not.

OP posts:
ILoveEurovision · 24/06/2019 21:39

Not exactly joyful is it? It's just being nasty to people who don't want to harm animals. You don't seem like a nice person.

gubbsywubbsy · 24/06/2019 21:39

Why are people so aggressive towards vegans??🙄🙄 .. it's a process for me and my family and I'm heading towards it trying all the versions of things to replace animal products .. veganism isn't about perfection , it's about trying your best .

Ylvamoon · 24/06/2019 21:51

... I think it's sad. Why do you need these highly processed meat substitutes with a meat related name?
I think power to the vegetables, beans and other pulses! They are delicious and nutritious and don't need to be called something meat related. There is beauty in plain, simple unprocessed food. Obviously it's not very "sexy" as far as good advertising goes....

noodlenosefraggle · 24/06/2019 22:32

I'd imagine the answer is, as with so ma y things, that vegetables and dry or tinned pulses are very cheap, whereas fake meat products can be pimped and packaged and processed into something that commands a huge profit.

LadyRannaldini · 24/06/2019 22:33

Loads of good reasons to eat meat!

Pinky It might be masquerading as bacon, but it didn't come from a pig, so no good.

NobodyKnowsTiddlyPom · 24/06/2019 23:21

I have Crohn's. I can't eat a lot of certain types of vegetables so a plant based diet simply won't work for me. I can't take iron supplements because of the crohn's and I can't get iron into my diet in decent quantities (enough to stop me being severely anaemic) without eating red meat. I also can't tolerate a lot of the meat substitutes.
I do always eat high welfare meat though and we raise our own lamb and pork, as well as keep free range chickens for eggs, so I know exactly where my meat is coming from.

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 25/06/2019 07:16

noodle has hit the nail on the head.

I haven't seen anything goady or mean spirited on this thread. Certainly nobody being "aggressive towards vegans" Confused. Just a few grumpy posters trying to pile on, not having read the thread or the OP. And quite a few funny posts which made me smile Smile

KnittingForMittens · 25/06/2019 07:22

I'm so sorry but I would never give up my meat :( I don't mind trying / eating vegetarian and vegan food! I do have about 2-3 meatless meals per week, but nope! I guess I have to label myself a carnivore!

thesunisoutatlast · 25/06/2019 07:36

@PinkyLovePerky ohh exciting I'll check them out !

Poloshot · 25/06/2019 08:12

Vegetarians and vegans are weirdos you can tell them a mile off.

PinkyLovePerky · 25/06/2019 09:52

Anyone remember sosmix from the 80s?

In theory I don't agree with eating animals. It's cruelty and we don't have to do it. However, I believe animal products are a very efficient way of ensuring we get the nutrients we need...not necessarily the only way, but the most efficient. I also crave meat and don't feel satiated unless I have some.
