NC
My DP and I are coming to the end of the road. One of those unfortunate 'we both have a different vision for the future' kind of endings where you're both sad to break up, but you both know it's right (along the lines of one is moving abroad, one definitely is not moving abroad, or one wants kids, one doesn't).
I'm been coming to terms with it for a while now.
I had envisioned marriage and kids with DP so am coming to terms with my life being different to that, and slightly aghast at the idea of having to start again from scratch with someone new (but also excited at the idea of a relationship where there isn't this big 'issue' between us?)

The idea of going on a date or getting a dating app or essentially putting myself out there is terrifying to me- I thought I was done with all that!

So AIBU to ask you to cheer me up by giving me hope with telling me the random place or way you met your DP?

Did you meet at work? At a running club? On a train? In Tesco?

I don't think my experience will be particularly relevant as I met my DP in halls of residences as a student Grin

However, I just wanted to say I'm sorry your relationship is ending but it looks like you're both being very mature about things. I'm sure you'll meet someone new and lovely when you feel ready to.

We met through fb, he was a friend of a friend so she could give me loads of info on him when we started talking lol. We talked on the phone for months before meeting in a nightclub. We've been together 8 years and have two daughters together now. But in the early days we split for around 3 Months then decided we couldn't live without each other.

Sorry your going through this op x

EnglishRose13 · 02/05/2019 15:45

That's so sad.

We met at work. He used to follow me out to the kitchen.

K456789 · 02/05/2019 15:47

I'm proof dating apps do work. I met my husband 2 years ago aged 36. Now married with a 10 week old baby. Dating apps aren't necessarily scary and definitely worth ago!

Megan2018 · 02/05/2019 15:47

On a dating site, sorry! He was my first and only online date.
I signed up, met him within a month, got engaged after 4 months and married a year later!
I was 35, he was almost 40.6 years on we are pg with DC1!

Sirzy · 02/05/2019 15:47

We met through an online message board for a mutual interest 15 years ago. Took us another 10 years to get our act together

Putthatlampshadeonyourhead · 02/05/2019 15:49

I tried online dating. Didn't like it.

Oddly I met dp in my best friends kitchen.

Disfordarkchocolate · 02/05/2019 15:50

At work, he was the 'nice young man' who worked along the corridor. Someone noticed he liked me and arranged a night out so we could get together. Been together ever since.

x2boys · 02/05/2019 15:51

Through his sister, I used to work with her and he was supposed to be a one night stand I married him six months later ,two kids fourteen years later here we are .

StormcloakNord · 02/05/2019 15:51

Dating site for me! I had a DD so didn't have the time to get out and meet people the usual ways. We hit it off pretty well on the first date and were engaged & married pretty quickly! I'm very lucky.

boredpanda84 · 02/05/2019 15:52

Online dating for me too! I had done it for a while and got sick of spending a few weeks talking to people who then fall off the face of the planet and you never go on a date. My DP and I exchanged a few messages and he just basically asked if we should cut out all the online chat and go for a drink...refreshing change. We moved in together after 4 months, now 5 years down the line and we have just had our first DC! So many of my friends have met over OLD...you just need to find the right app/site for you and dive in!

WhatNowRandy · 02/05/2019 15:52

Halloween party thrown by someone neither one of us really knew all that well!

loveonthewall · 02/05/2019 15:52

I met my chap on Tinder 3 years ago. You just need to word your profile carefully and stick to your criteria.

Chinks123 · 02/05/2019 15:53

Down the pub Smile

Beachbodynowayready · 02/05/2019 15:53

In a bar. Total strangers. Both only been single a few months. Never had a night apart since that first night coming up 7 years.
Married with dc now.

woodcutbirds · 02/05/2019 15:57

He was a close friend of a close friend. She always talked about him in such glowing terms and seemed to have such fun when she met up with him, I asked why they weren't together as they were both single (I'd not met him at that stage.) She just said: not my type at all, but might be yours. The three of us met up soon after that and it was obvious within minutes we were definitely each other's type. First date was a cliche that the cafe closed around us and we didn't even notice, we were so busy yacking away.

Shoxfordian · 02/05/2019 15:57

Met my husband on OK Cupid three years ago
Don't be scared of dating apps

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 02/05/2019 15:59

I met my husband through liking a music post on a fb group! We met about 2 weeks later for a coffee...we were 150 miles apart! and complete strangers who happened to like a band! Been married now for 8 years and have a 7 year old daughter..So there I was happily listening to Oasis and ended up with a husband and a daughter at 41 and believe me I was looking for neither!! Wouldn;t swap it though..I wish you every happiness going forward OP....You never know whats around the corner.I am living proof of that!

Thunderwing · 02/05/2019 15:59

We went to school together, didn't see each other for a few years until randomly meeting again in our early 20's.

Together 17 years now, married for 10 years with 3 dc Smile

Dh occasionally gets a bit drunk and says he wishes we'd been together since school so we didn't have those 'wasted' years. He was a bit of a dick at 14 tbh and I did not "waste" those years Wink

bookworm14 · 02/05/2019 16:00

We met through student politics.

Chasingsquirrels · 02/05/2019 16:00

ExH: aged 18 at uni, same corridor in halls, same course....
LateDH: aged late-30's, he was my boss, I'd worked for him for 10 years, circumstances had changed for both of us, we got closer, bam!
CurrentDP: aged mid-40's, online dating POF.

VapeVamp12 · 02/05/2019 16:01

I joined a band as a backing singer and he was the guitarist!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 02/05/2019 16:01

He sat in 'my' chair while I was at the bar. He said "what are you going to do about it?" when I pointed this out. So I sat on his lap. We've been married for twenty years 😁

MaMaMaMySharona · 02/05/2019 16:03

I also met my DP online!

Through Plenty of Fish, he was the only person I spoke to (and I spoke to him first - he won't let me forget!)

We've been together over 5 years and are getting married in October Smile

Overandoverupanddown · 02/05/2019 16:03
