Hello everyone, here's thread 2.

I'd be very grateful if someone could do a clicky link to the last one. Still can't figure it out.

Thanks!

I absolutely agree re the Duchess of Cambridge's reward.
I'd prefer to see amazing volunteers be rewarded for their fantastic work in helping others.
I'm always bemused by the row of medals worn by royals around the world.
I think they look ridiculous.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 07:44

It's probably time for a republic, TBH.

Historical Royals and Deposed Royals will be fine for trivia.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 07:47

Papa Markle, maybe @beanaseireann ? Smile

goodbyestranger · 30/04/2019 07:49

ByeClaire I've got DC who are capable of stringing a sentence together as well as being sporty. It's not either/ or. The thing is that Kate has nothing much going on up top.

The DailyMail comments section last night was awash with references to PW's affair, no doubt now deleted.

goodbyestranger · 30/04/2019 07:52

an awareness that she’s in her position by grace

!!!!!!!!

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 07:55

I think @ByeClaire has a point about physical dexterity being her strength & Kate clearly isn't stupid. She's just not particularly articulate or verbally confident.

goodbyestranger · 30/04/2019 08:00

RubberTreePlant when Kate speaks it's very hard not to draw the conclusion that she's really quite stupid. She didn't cover herself with glory at school either, on the academic front - there's no evidence that she's got any spark at all, to be completely fair.

Pmsl at ‘saving the DM from itself’

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 30/04/2019 08:08

Think you're bang on there, Rubber and Bye Claire. Perhaps she's waiting for E&P to be out of the picture before she loosens up a bit, too? The Queen is pretty much the product of Queen Mary's training!

I have no problem with the RVO. There are awards for people who've served the country, this one is for personal service to the Queen.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 08:10

Come on @goodbyestranger tell us the back story to your beef with K-Middy Wink

MagicKingdomDizzy · 30/04/2019 08:22

strawberrisc

Thank you! I'm obviously a child of the 90s Grin

Yes, come on @goodbyestranger what's she ever done to you? Are you Lady Mary-Gaye Curzon? Or Jecca Craig's mum? Or a Marlborough mum, jealous of Carole's way with picnics and perfect name tapes? You're allowed to not like her, you just seem hung up on calling her dim.

I don't think academic success is always a measure of intelligence, and neither is being opinionated. They say still waters run deep, after all.

goodbyestranger · 30/04/2019 08:30

DSHGMFG I can certainly assure you that despite having never successfully sewn on a name tape, even with eight DC, there's absolutely nothing about Carole that I envy even remotely.

Please don't let my refusal to fawn over someone expensively financed by the taxpayer but with no personality and a deeply affected accent to stop you though :)

Humpy84 · 30/04/2019 08:31

@goodbyestranger I think you’re just calling it as you see it. I don’t think she’s dim but I know what you mean. I get the impression she’s disciplined and hardworking but not necessarily naturally academic, there’s nothing at all wrong with that.

Sorry it was meant to be papa Markle not Middleton - I often mix up words, I thought it was baby brain/sleep deprivation but son is toddler now so think must be permanent/me.

Well apparently the Queen and other royals have visited Meghan at Frogmore to welcome her into her home. Oh what brilliant timing, just before her water breaks.

I think she’s actually had the baby and I think her due date was a few days ago but they bought time with baby by saying yesterday.

Definitely time for republic, agree that grown women awarding each other medals for charitable endeavours seems a bit odd. I guess it’s the catholic school girl in me that thinks charitable deeds should be kept on the low, not given medals for.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 08:32

DSHGMFG I can certainly assure you that despite having never successfully sewn on a name tape, even with eight DC, there's absolutely nothing about Carole that I envy even remotely.

Is she a bit nouveau for your tastes?

Are you a former Marlborough Mum, then? (So want to write that as Marlboro Mum Smile.)

goodbyestranger · 30/04/2019 08:32

Being opinionated certainly isn't a sign of intelligence but academic success is more likely to suggest intelligence than otherwise. Conversation, or lack of it, is a good indicator.

goodbyestranger · 30/04/2019 08:35

My DC all go or went to a superselective grammar, so that's a no to Malborough :)

I'm fine with nouveau. No problem with nouveau at all.

Humpy84 · 30/04/2019 08:36

@goodbyestranger am a bit over female adoration of KM too. She’s the poster child for middle class Mum aspirations - painfully thin, drives land rover, shops waitrose, wears Breton tops, well dressed, great hair, subdued, vanilla, and married above her class.

People will fine this criticism vile but I find the adoration completely superficial and unjustified.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 08:37

Do you know any of the Middletons, though? You just sound unusually ferocious.

Humpy84 · 30/04/2019 08:38

I do, I used to holiday in mustique

goodbyestranger · 30/04/2019 08:39

To be fair to Queenie, there's not a lot you can do when you're at your due date so saying hello to the in laws isn't a bad way to pass the time. They can always exit pronto if contractions start.

Dongdingdong · 30/04/2019 08:39

Disagree that conversation or lack of is an indicator of intelligence, if that’s what you meant. Two of the cleverest people I know aren’t good at making conversation and are very quiet, reserved individuals, but are seriously impressive academically.

I think Kate’s probably quite intelligent but not dazzlingly so.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 30/04/2019 08:39

Am I crazy to think Diana wasn't THAT beautiful. I was born in the 90s and just never saw it.

I'm the same about Marilyn Monroe. Can't see it. She had a triangular head and a forehead like a plastic doll.

Meghan, on the other hand 💕

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 08:41

People will fine this criticism vile but I find the adoration completely superficial and unjustified.

Oh I agree about pushy mum Carole and that the result is a bit insipid.

I'm just intrigued by goodbye's dogged insistence that KM is "really quite stupid".

I just can't see that she IS stupid.

I can see that she's very vanilla and inoffensive and middle of the road, but, frankly if we're insisting on maintaining a monarchy in the age of 24 hour rolling news, camera phones and drones, she had to be.
