To think the UK media silence on the Prince William rumours is odd

Just that really. No idea if there's anything more than rumour and speculation, but it's all over social media that Prince William allegedly had an affair with one of Kate's friends, but there is a total media silence on it.
Pretty bizarre considering that Meghan Markle barely has to breathe and the media are covering it.

And Charles shagged one of Di’s sisters before he married Di.

Isn't one of Di's sisters married to the queen's private secretary? Must have been awkward during the War of the Waleses!

I heard Diana was originally considered as a potential bride for Andrew - who was much closer to her age - rather than Charles. Interesting to imagine how that might have turned out.

Nanamilly · 27/04/2019 11:39

They had a few dates.

Nanamilly · 27/04/2019 11:42

Must have been awkward during the War of the Waleses!

It’s said Diana felt very let down by her Sisters who sided with the Palace and it’s the reason why her relationship with them was still very strained at the time of her Death.

I can recall thinking they were a pair of hypocrites when they flew to France to bring her home.

IcedPurple · 27/04/2019 11:44

Same with her brother with that tearful eulogy.

I heard she and Earl Spencer were barely on speaking terms at the time of her death. He seems a deeply unpleasant piece of work.

ElektraLOL · 27/04/2019 11:46

Yes also why did he bury her on an island with black swans? He says it was a dream but to me sounds quite sinister.

Iamnotagoddess · 27/04/2019 11:48

Not to mention her ex husband ...,

34plus4 · 27/04/2019 11:49

The media knew that Charles and Diana were barely even seeing each other or living together from about 1985 and nothing came out till much, much later.

Weirder things have happened I suppose

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 27/04/2019 11:52

Surely William wouldn't dare cross Kate's DM Carol. Carol would have his guts for garters royal or no royal.
I wouldn't dare have an affair (not that I would anyway) if Carol was my DMIL, she's scary! (Bit like me if anyone upsets/hurts my DD)

happyhillock · 27/04/2019 11:53

@SummerPlace it was Oliver Hoare, Diana was lying when she said she didn't know how to use a public phone box she would dress in disguise to go and use one.

@SlipperOrchid yes Diana's grandmother and the QM were good friend's as far as im aware Diana's grandmother told the QM that Diana wasn't right for Prince Charles

EnthusiasmisDisturbed. Diana wasn"t the first royal to get the paper's attention, Princess Margaret was bigger than Diana in her day the press watched everything she did, although there was no paparazzi then.

34plus4 · 27/04/2019 11:55

@ElektraLOL strange isn't it?
I thinks it's really, really sad. Still! 20 odd years on

lyralalala · 27/04/2019 12:03

His eulogy was quite touching for a man who wouldn’t let her move back to Althrop Estate because she’d bring too much attention - given that he was living in South Africa it’s not like paps at thT gate would be tricky for him to get through.

jenniferazp · 27/04/2019 12:06

As the d of c and Prince Harry were all smiles the other day surely the reason Harry and William have been avoiding each other is because Harry is on Kate’s side and an affair may have actually happened

Whizzler · 27/04/2019 12:08

Being buried on an island populated with black swans sounds so gothic! Grin

Humpy84 · 27/04/2019 12:09

@FannyWork the class category of the Middleton’s has been debated since the days of the DM articles of Carole being labelled by Wills circles as ‘doors to manual’ because of her air hostess days and the Middleton sisters labelled ‘Wisteria Sisters’ because they were viewed as social climbers.

I think what I meant was that neither WIlls nor Harry would have looked twice at a girl that didn’t have the money to fit in with that set. I think with the clothing, ski trips and parties alone you would need an income for it. Meghan had the whole ‘whole foods, foodie, travel, yoga’ posh thing happening. Thats an expensive image and lifestyle to maintain.

I think the Middleton’s are solidly middle class in their background, lifestyle, tastes and sensibilities but because of their earned wealth, they have the trappings of the upper class such as the Georgian manor, Chelsea flat, private schools, holidays to Mustique, Wimbledon tickets, aristo connections, etc. That’s why I think it’s so hotly debated. Social class is a debatable thing about how we define it etc.

Whizzler · 27/04/2019 12:10

'Surely William wouldn't dare cross Kate's DM Carol. Carol would have his guts for garters royal or no royal.'

I think William seems like a guy with a bit of an ego and the older he gets the more his ego is likely to grow with him. Knowing you're a future King might make a person a bit less in awe of an angry MIL!

LaMarschallin · 27/04/2019 12:17

The Jilly Cooper ref made me think of her book "Class". Suspect she'd have the Middletons down as nouveau riche middle-middles. She seems to reserve special scorn for NRs who all say things like, "Ay'd laike a naice portion of gateau" in her books.
This thread is becoming a lovely guilty pleasure; the number of times I've clutched my pearls* and shivered happily...Blush

Someone navigating the English class system earlier today.

I think you’re right about Kate. I actually think the RF probably viewed her as perfect because she had the moneyed background and public school education but not an aristocratic background.

When looking for a wife for William foreign princesses would have been out partly because arranged marriages are frowned on and partly because other royals are seen as a bit eurotrash these days. In his case though the experience of Diana probably meant the royals were reluctant to see him with a real British aristo too because they can’t necessarily be trusted to stay in their place in the pecking order, not upset the apple cart etc. Kate still has the benefits of the wealth of aristocratic levels without the confidence, lack of deference's and entitlement of a proper aristo.

Meghan is different though because Harry has been quite interesting. He’s always had a think for career girls who are intelligent, talented and driven and frequently foreign too. Chelsey Davey is a very well qualified lawyer at a top firm, Cressida Bonas was a talented performing artist and obviously we all know about Meghan’s career. She really is totally off the wall and her lifestyle was still 100% removed from the Royals even though it was a luxe celeb one.

DeadWife · 27/04/2019 12:31

Whizzler Grin.

Rhubarbisevil · 27/04/2019 12:35

Chelsey didn’t last long as a lawyer and is a professional holiday maker with a vanity jewellery business on the side.

happyhillock · 27/04/2019 12:36

@Whizzler my late sister wanted to go to Althorp when it opened to the public she was not in the best of health so i agreed to go with her, when we got to the island where she's supposingly buried i thought to myself no way is she here, the island is totally covered in large tree's how did the get her coffin through those tree's, in the paper's they showed her brother rowing over to the island, i laughed when i saw it the water around the island is only about 6 inches deep, i think she was put beside her father but didn't tell the public because the church is tiny and couldn't cope with hoards of people, i also used to think if Althorp fell out the family hand's would they leave her there? although i don't think she is.

SlipperOrchid · 27/04/2019 12:37

The being worried about Carole Middleton, William is now much older and fully aware of his importance. His ego would no longer be concerned about the Middleton’s opinion of him.

BoneyBackJefferson · 27/04/2019 12:39

It doesn’t stop men in any other walk of life.....

Or women

lyralalala · 27/04/2019 12:43

@happyhillock My MIL went on a day trip with her lunch group and said the exact same thing about the island.
Although she thinks that she's probably buried under the memorial thing next to the island as it looks a bit like an old fashioned fancy headstone and it would have been difficult to sneak her coffin back out of the estate with the press coverage at the time.

Cafetierecoffee · 27/04/2019 12:45

This is quite extraordinary. David Icke explains why there are black swans surrounding the lake island where Diana is buried. David Icke was a sports presenter who went a little too OTT with his theories.
