... not only that, he’s threatening treason charges on those who investigated him.

Well, this is Mueller's list of people who didn't carry out the president's wishes:

"The President's efforts to influence the investigation were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests. Comey did not end the investigation of Flynn, which ultimately resulted in Flynn's prosecution and conviction for lying to the FBI. McGahn did not tell the Acting Attorney General that the Special Counsel must be removed, but was instead prepared to resign over the President's order. Lewandowski and Dearborn did not deliver the President's message to Sessions that he should confine the Russia investigation to future election meddling only. And McGahn refused to recede from his recollections about events surrounding the President's direction to have the Special Counsel removed, despite the President's multiple demands that he do so. Consistent with that pattern, the evidence we obtained would not support potential obstruction charges against the President's aides and associates beyond those already filed."

If the president's aides and other folk like Comey had acted on the president's wishes, there mightn't have been much of a Mueller report. So I wouldn't say their refusals were in order to save the president's ass.

And as Mueller highlights, their refusals to carry out the president's wishes saved their own asses, ie if they'd aided in obstruction, they might have been charged with it.

Not sure if this has been mentioned. Scrotus sues Congress in his own capacity as a private individual to block tax return subpoena.

Prior SCOTUS precedent says Congress cannot be interfered with when issuing subpoenas.

US President Donald Trump 'to finally make state visit to UK in June'
www.politicshome.com/news/uk/foreign-affairs/news/103368/us-president-donald-trump-finally-make-state-visit-uk-june

So will he get the golden carriage?
And how will they keep the jeering crowds away?
Good job I didn't throw my anti-Trump placard away after the last protest - although it may need updating.

Roussette · 23/04/2019 07:41

Let's hope that 'events' overtake this planned visit, and it doesn't happen. Just for your amusement, here's a pic of the very best of placards from the last time - so very British!

"“Until the Trump administration, we could always count on the Americans to help us defend it. Now the Americans have switched camp,” the diplomat said. “Now it’s an unholy alliance of the US, the Russians, the Holy See, the Saudis and the Bahrainis, chipping away at the progress that has been made.”

It feels like it's one step forward and two or three steps back atm. And for the next couple of years at least. Sad

After Mueller report, Twitter bots pushed 'Russiagate hoax' narrative
www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/after-mueller-report-twitter-bots-pushed-russiagate-hoax-narrative-n997441?

A network of more than 5,000 pro-Trump Twitter bots railed against the “Russiagate hoax” shortly after the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report last week, according to data gathered by a prominent disinformation researcher and analyzed by NBC News. The network illustrates the ongoing challenge Twitter faces in persistent efforts to manipulate its platform.

These bots, however, did not appear to come from Russia. Instead, the bots had ties to a social media operation that previously pushed messages backing the government of Saudi Arabia and were connected to a person who claimed to be a private social media consultant, according to internet domain and account registration records. The bots, which were created last November and December, were pulled down by Twitter on Sunday night for breaking the social network’s rules against “manipulation,” the company said.

I am sad to type this but I sincerely hope that Joe Biden does not announce he's planning to run.

You may remember about 4 million threads ago, I told a personal anecdote from someone who had met him and received huge comfort from him following an unimaginable trauma.

However, the recent news reports about his inappropriate touching and the video evidence that backs up these statements has made my blood run cold. I can't believe his 'apology' of how he is just a tactile person - the expressions on those women and young girls faces tell their own story and anyone who can watch him sniffing hair and find an excuse for that is just ludicrous.

He was a genuine hero for me - someone who seemed to epitomize what could be possible at the higher levels of Government and I am not reducing the work he has done, campaigning for women's rights and safety. However, that does not give him the right to do what he is doing in plain sight and should not be in the running for president.

He is not in the same league as Scrotus but it would be good to have someone in that office who is not a predator - maybe even a fucking woman! And if you don't think he is predatory, if you think he's just a bit handsy, just Google 'Creepy Joe Biden' - the footage speaks for itself Sad

cozietoesie · 23/04/2019 18:00

I doubt he will.

Warren seems to be garnering some plaudits (and not just for the impeachment call).

While reading something else, I came across the word "Demagogue" or "demagoguery" and had to look it up online. The Wikipedia explanation is very illuminating! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demagogue Hope the link works. It does not specifically mention Donald Trump, but gives a damning description of the power that can be wielded, and has in the past, even naming names in some instances. Chilling.

Ok - it's Morning Joe. Still worth a listen, though.
