From lionheart's NBC article.

Trump Organization sues House Oversight chairman over subpoena for financial records
www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/trump-organization-sues-house-oversight-chairman-over-subpoena-financial-records-n996991?

Cummings said in a statement Monday afternoon that Trump "has a long history of trying to use baseless lawsuits to attack his adversaries, but there is simply no valid legal basis to interfere with this duly authorized subpoena from Congress."

"This complaint reads more like political talking points than a reasoned legal brief, and it contains a litany of inaccurate information," he continued. "The White House is engaged in unprecedented stonewalling on all fronts, and they have refused to produce a single document or witness to the Oversight Committee during this entire year."

In late March, Cummings sent a letter to Mazars chairman and CEO Victor Wahba requesting documents related to his panel’s probe into allegations that Trump inflated or deflated financial statements for potentially improper purposes.

The easiest thing to do would be to release them - as others have done. If they're so...............complicated, think of all that free advice he'd get. Grin

Oh good lord, I didn't know Carole Cadwalladr had done a TED talk.

Something to get my teeth into after dinner!

PerkingFaintly · 22/04/2019 20:49

Carole: A room that fell silent when I ended and then erupted in whoops and cheers. “It’s what we’re all thinking,” one person told me. “But it’s been the thing that nobody had actually said.”

cozietoesie · 22/04/2019 20:51

Cadwalladr is GOOD.

AcrossthePond55 · 22/04/2019 20:58

Reporting for duty

The feeling where I am is that everything is rather up in the air. The Mueller Report (as edited by Barr) was so vague and evasive that there is no clear cut direction forward. The House Dems are huddled in the corner debating possible actions. The Senate (as usual) doing bloody fuck all (thanks to the GOP majority). And so, we wait. We wait for someone to do something. And in the meantime Scrotus and his gang are traipsing down the Yellow Brick Road towards 2020.

The consensus amongst my social circle is that we just feel so powerless. There is nothing we can do but wait to see what the House decides.

Hearhere · 22/04/2019 21:38

Thanks for posting the Carole cadwalladr article Lionheart I will watch the TED talk a bit later today

what she says about Zuckerberg and his refusal to answer makes me wonder if he belongs in the same part of the venn diagram as a Don the con with his refusal to be held accountable

Two sources say @JoeBiden will announce his entry into the presidential race on Wednesday in Charlottesville, Virginia. After that, he'll fly to Pittsburgh for a rally in the afternoon and then travel to Philadelphia.

Mueller: "The President's efforts to influence the investigation were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests."

I heard that if the President's aides had carried out his orders, then there would be far more solid evidence of obstruction of justice. In other words, he tried to impede and influence the investigation, but was too stupid or arrogant to see how badly that would reflect on him, and his aides, in refusing to do what he asked, saved him from committing those crimes.

Question is... why would they save him? If they could see how utterly corrupt he is, why did they sidestep his orders to save his ass? Are they really that much in thrall to him that they would do that, or do they have ulterior motives to keep him where he is?
