Mueller: "The President's efforts to influence the investigation were mostly unsuccessful, but that is largely because the persons who surrounded the President declined to carry out orders or accede to his requests."
I heard that if the President's aides had carried out his orders, then there would be far more solid evidence of obstruction of justice. In other words, he tried to impede and influence the investigation, but was too stupid or arrogant to see how badly that would reflect on him, and his aides, in refusing to do what he asked, saved him from committing those crimes.
Question is... why would they save him? If they could see how utterly corrupt he is, why did they sidestep his orders to save his ass? Are they really that much in thrall to him that they would do that, or do they have ulterior motives to keep him where he is?
