Growth finishes 2 years after periods start?

Just that really.
That's what all the articles say, that girls have reached their full height by 2 years after their periods have started.
Does that fit with you and your daughters?

Mine started at about 11 and pretty sure I wasn't 5ft2 then as I am now.

pointythings · 17/04/2019 20:45

Pretty much nonsense. DD1 - periods at 13, didn't stop growing in height until past 17 and I'm not sure she's done even now she's 18.

Me - periods at 15, grew another inch between 18 and 19.

DD2 - periods at 16, has already shot up almost 2 inches since 16th birthday.

HarrysOwl · 17/04/2019 20:46

Mine started at 12...I'm 5'2. So it could be true for me.

DeadDoorpost · 17/04/2019 20:46

Pretty much. But then for my sister's I don't think so. But they've been late bloomers compared to me so their height stopping may have coincided with their periods.

Cyw2018 · 17/04/2019 20:46

My periods started at 13. I had one final growth spurt at 18. I had a badly broken leg at the time with many complications, and then suddenly it miraculously started healing when it wasn't expected to, and this was put down to me having a late growth spurt, which was very lucky really.

Clutterbugsmum · 17/04/2019 20:47

Mine started at 15/16 but I stopped growing at 11.

LakieLady · 17/04/2019 20:49

That's how it was for me.

I was 10 and 5 months when my periods started and stopped growing around the time of my 12th birthday.

RaffertyFair · 17/04/2019 20:50

Not true for me and doesnt look like it for dd

Mammylamb · 17/04/2019 20:50

Happened to me unfortunately. I’ve not grown since I was 13

BlueMerchant · 17/04/2019 20:50

It's true in my case.

Creatureofthenight · 17/04/2019 20:50

Mine started just before I was 12 and I reckon I’d definitely stopped growing by 13.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 17/04/2019 20:50

Mine started at 10 but I definitely grew in my teenage years, though not much as I'm only 5ft 1.

Smarshian · 17/04/2019 20:51

I stopped growing at around 13. Started my periods about 11.5. Seems about right for me.

AutumnCrow · 17/04/2019 20:51

No that's not right, not in the modern UK with a well fed population.

It's a historical supposition.

Countryslices · 17/04/2019 20:51

Not true for me I started periods at 11 and was growing up until about 16/17

EmrysAtticus · 17/04/2019 20:52

No started at 12 and definitely hadn't finished growing by 14. Can't remember exactly but 15-16 would be more accurate.

RomanyQueen1 · 17/04/2019 20:52

Mine started at 9 she is still growing now at 15.
It is only gradual now, although her summer clothes are way too small from last year. She couldn't wear many of them outside.

CreekyBeaky · 17/04/2019 20:52

Mine started at 12 and I was about 5f 2 then. I grew to 5f 8 by 18 so not for me

DramaAlpaca · 17/04/2019 20:53

Not the case for me. I started my periods at 13 when I was 5'3, then had a growth spurt reaching 5'8 at 14. By 16 i was 5'9 & my last recorded height on the wall at my parents' house was my final adult height, 5'10 at 18.

I have no daughters so can't comment on that.

Awrite · 17/04/2019 20:53

Periods started at 13. I had a major op at 15. One way of finding out if bones had stopped growing was to x-ray the hand. Mine showed I'd stopped growing.

Dd yet to start but it could be any day. We'll see.

RomanyQueen1 · 17/04/2019 20:53

whoops, forgot to say it happened to me, started at nine and stopped growing at 11 and I'm 4ft 11, the average height of y6, usually.

VampirateQueen · 17/04/2019 20:56

I started mine at 10, but continued growing until about 17/18. Although I continued to grow after my periods started, I didn't grow as quickly, so when I was in primary school I was one of the tallest in my year, even when I first started secondary I was, but by the time I left, most of the girls who's periods started after mine were taller than me.

NameChangeSameRage · 17/04/2019 20:57

Nope. Started at 12, grew at least 6 inches between 14 and 16.

ZippyBungleandGeorge · 17/04/2019 21:02

I didn't start mine until I was 16 and I'm 5'8/5'9 depending if you all the GP or the hospital, and I was fairly short until I was about 15 so possible

JammieCodger · 17/04/2019 21:02

Nope. Periods started at 11, I stopped growing at around 15.
