Growth finishes 2 years after periods start?

Just that really.
That's what all the articles say, that girls have reached their full height by 2 years after their periods have started.
Does that fit with you and your daughters?

It was true for my dd but I think what the thinking is, is that most of the growth happens before the period starts & the period is like a brake to growth. So it will slow right down in the years afterwards.

Mistigri · 18/04/2019 06:06

I think that this is broadly true but there are always some exceptions to the rule.

Growth usually slows sharply after periods start, although the amount of growth remaining varies between individuals.

My DD only grew an inch or two after starting her periods.

theonewiththecats · 18/04/2019 06:59

periods started at 14 and that's when I stopped growing (upwards at least!)

Mari50 · 18/04/2019 07:03

Nope. I stopped growing at 12 and got my periods at 12.

Bibijayne · 18/04/2019 07:07

Nope. 14 when my periods started. Didn't stop growing till 19.

CobaltRose96 · 18/04/2019 07:10

Not true. Mine started at 12, and I was around 5'2" then. I'm now 5'9". Also, a friend of mine didn't start her period until she was 16 and she's tiny (4'11").

cinnabarmoth · 18/04/2019 07:23

Periods started at 13, carried on growing until at least 18.

4strings · 18/04/2019 07:27

Started at 12 when I was 5’1”. I continued to grow over the next year until I reached the extraordinary height of 5’2”.

Dd 11.5 has had one period and is 5’1”. She doesn’t want to be any taller!

Spidey66 · 18/04/2019 07:31

Sounds right for me, started age 11 and I'm 5ft 4.

Idontmeanto · 18/04/2019 07:34

True for me and both daughters

DuploRelatedInjury · 18/04/2019 08:07

I'd never really thought about it, but sounds about right. I shot up in height at 12, started a few months before I turned 13 and I'm the same height now as I was at 15. My feet had definitely stopped growing by 14.

Oblomov19 · 18/04/2019 08:29

True for me unfortunately, wish I'd grown more.

But isn't it different these days? aren't young girls taller? And frowning for longer, now?

Raspberry10 · 18/04/2019 08:33

Yes it was right for us, both started our periods at 11. I was about 5’2 at 11 and stopped growing about 13 at 5’4. DD was about 4’10 at 11 and had stopped growing by 12/13 and is 5ft bang on. Also tiny size 4.5 feet. She really wished to keep growing but just didn’t.

80sMum · 18/04/2019 08:40

I didn't stop growing till I was in my 20s. When I was 18 I had to have a full medical examination and I was measured as 5'2".

I assumed that 5'2" was my adult height. So I was very surprised when I was measured again in my mid 20s and was a fraction over 5'3".

Stravapalava · 18/04/2019 08:42

I'm not sure of my exact height at the times, but I was one of the tallest when I started senior school. Periods started at 12, and I didn't grow much after that - I was one of the shortest by sixth form!

Fiveredbricks · 18/04/2019 08:42

I was 5ft6 by the end of year 7 (first year seniors) and I have not grown another mm since.

Fiveredbricks · 18/04/2019 08:43

Oh and I started my periods a year later at 13. My first one arrived while I was deployed with the TA on a youth camp ... Was loads of fun that 😳

TheVanguardSix · 18/04/2019 08:46

I was 5'8" at 18. That would have been two years after my period started.
I was a model and they constantly had to measure my height. I was 5'8" when I signed the contract.
I measured 5'10" at 21.
Still 5'10" (I hope! At 47 years old!).

SCST01 · 18/04/2019 09:07

@helpcantfindaname it would have been about ten years ago I think, when her daughter was about 10. She was shooting up and Dr gave meds to slow her growth so that she wouldn't be a small adult. I think it was a specialist rather than GP, and I presume took her parents heights into account.
