Growth finishes 2 years after periods start?

Justicegf · 17/04/2019 20:40

Just that really.
That's what all the articles say, that girls have reached their full height by 2 years after their periods have started.
Does that fit with you and your daughters?

Nope - there was a 4 year gap.

TheClaifeCrier · 17/04/2019 22:04

Not for me! I was 5ft 3 when I was 11. I'm still 5ft 3 and my periods started when I was 12.

Aquamarine1029 · 17/04/2019 22:06

Not for me. I was 12 and 5'7" when mine started and I'm now 6 feet tall.

Mumsymumphy · 17/04/2019 22:12

True for me and my eldest, I started at 10, was tallest in primary school, went to secondary & watched everyone shoot up past me, while I stayed the same height. I'm 5"3.

thecatsthecats · 17/04/2019 22:18

I don't know for me, but my sister satyed the same height all through 13-20, then gained another inch when she gave up being a vegetarian!

Nnnnnineteen · 17/04/2019 22:24

Pretty much true for me. Started at 11, stopped growing about 12 1/2. Dd is 13, not started (v surprisingly) she's growing like a weed and is currently about 5'6.

Purpleartichoke · 17/04/2019 22:26

Started my period at 12. Basically Full height at 13, maybe a tiny bit of growth into 14.

MollysMummy2010 · 17/04/2019 22:27

I started at 11 and am 5.2 and my 9yr old is a foot shorter and hasn’t started yet. Husband is 6.5 though so hopefully she will land somewhere in the middle.

BillywigSting · 17/04/2019 22:28

Mine started when I was 11 and I'm 4ft8, was always short but never the shortest in my class, until I was about 13 when I pretty much stopped growing and everyone else carried on so I think there might be a grain of truth in it.

MenuPlant · 17/04/2019 22:31

True for me I was tallest in class through primary started at 11 was soon not tallest in class! Am 5'3.

V glad to hear it might be rubbish though as DD has always looked like going to be tall, big hands feet like a puppy :D but periods started just turned 10 felt like female biology would interfere with potential height and leave her with disproportionate bits! So good thread to read :D

Missillusioned · 17/04/2019 23:06

I stopped growing at 12. I was a very tall 12 yr old luckily at 5ft 6. Didn't start periods until a year later, probably due to being very thin.

tor8181 · 17/04/2019 23:17

well at 11(y1 of comp) i was 5ft 10 had a DD bust and size adults mens 11 feet,i looked 18/19 and was even bigger than some men teachers and the 6 form

38 now still the same height but now a shoes size 12(JJ/K cup) and ive never had a period due to severe PCOS,i have 2 kids though( 1st a natural pregnancy,2nd via fertility tablets for 4 years)

so that dont apply in my case

DustyMaiden · 17/04/2019 23:21

Started on my 11 th Birthday, I was very tall at 5ft 2. I’m still 5 2.

LittleDoritt · 17/04/2019 23:21

True for me. Mine started at 9 Sad I still fit in a pair of Converse I got in Year 6.

Furrydogmum · 17/04/2019 23:23

I started my period between 10-11yrs and stopped growing at 5ft9 aged 13yrs.

agnurse · 17/04/2019 23:36

DSD started at 8. She is now 14 and still growing. (We were not concerned about her starting young. 8 is young but not without precedent, plus she is tall and her mum started at 9.)

agnurse · 17/04/2019 23:37

PSA ladies: if you started your period prior to age 12, your risk of breast cancer may be higher. When you reach 40 you may want to speak with your provider about when to start breast cancer screening.

SecretWitch · 17/04/2019 23:41

Oh, agnurse, thank you for that information. My MIL just died after a long struggle with breast cancer. My dd was just 11 when her periods began.

Middleoftheroad · 17/04/2019 23:50

Not for me. I was 5ft 1 when my periods started at 13. That's when I stopped growing up but started growing out. I'm still 5ft 1.

Likethebattle · 17/04/2019 23:53

I was 5’9’’ at the age of 12 and never grew after that, periods started when I was 13. I was always told how tall I was at primary school. A lot of people caught up with me in teenage years.

elp30 · 17/04/2019 23:56

I was 12 and 5' tall but I'm 5'4.
My daughter was 12 and 5' then but she's now 18 and 5'9".

In my case, that theory is not correct.

phlebasconsidered · 18/04/2019 00:15

I was the tallest in my class at one point but then just hit puberty, started periods, and stopped growing at 5.1 ( just) at 11. And i'm almost fifty now, so not just a recent / hormone/ environment thing.

Everydayimhuffling · 18/04/2019 04:54

Mine started at 11 and I carried on growing until 17, so definitely not true for me!

PregnantSea · 18/04/2019 05:13

No. I was 11 when my periods started and my height has increased by a good few inches since I was 13.

ferntwist · 18/04/2019 05:55

Definitely not true for me. I started at 12 and was still growing in my early 20s, shown by photos of me with friends who used to be taller than me but aren’t anymore.
