I've just been thinking about it, reading the lottery thread.
How much money would make a huge difference to your life?

For me, £10k would pay off my debt which is because of divorce costs & SSP following my mental breakdown.

If I won more, it would give me some time to consider my working future.

What about you?

Well, I suppose it's a spectrum isn't it? £10k would be nice but wouldn't make a noticeable difference for me at all. I might go on a holiday I wouldn't have otherwise but apart from that it would just get swallowed up. From about £30k would make life changing difference, as in I could probably get a mortgage at that point and look at living in my own house instead of depending on nanny accommodation. With my own house I would be free to get into qualifying as a foster parent, so that would be hugely life changing. So I'm going to say £30k.

£50k would help, £450k would be life changing

Depends how you define life changing I think.

I got £100k in an insurance payout once. I thought it would change everything but it didn't. It was for a critical illness payout relating to cancer so we used some for a holiday (not much, maybe £4k) after my treatment, and big chunk for IVF (£25k) and I suppose it helped with emigrating and buying a new car when we got to the new country.

So, life-changing in one way, since we moved countries and had a miracle son, but 6 years later it's long gone!

So, I'd say more like £3-400k would make a difference, like a quitting work kind of difference.

£1000 would be heaven.

Depends how life changing we're talking, but $10,000 would mean a heck of a lot to me right now. Would clear all of our debts with money left over to buy some stuff for the baby due in August

I think that's the point - I'd love to reduce my hours at work, could manage on fewer hours on the same pay rate, but that's not how my job has ever worked.
I'm on a good salary, full time stressful job, single mum with no maintenance although her DF pays stuff for her too

For me, security would be £1m. Which would be school fees x 2 all the way through and the mortgage paid off. But neither of us could give up work for that. We’d need £10m to be life changing.

It depends on the type of difference. $500,000 would clear the mortgage but I would still have to work. To enable us to retire early we’d probably need to win in excess of $2-3million, which we could invest, live from the interest and still put both boys through uni.

Paying off the mortgage would mean I could drop my hours at work though, spend more time with the family, look after my husband and grow veges. That would be life changing enough.

For me 50k would be life changing. It would be enough to pay off debts and put a decent deposit on a property.

Life changing for me would enable me to work part time but still be able to afford days out etc. So I think I'd need an income of £1500/month - a windfall of £10-100k won't make that much of a difference long term, which is quite depressing actually.

£6 million. Maybe just £3 million. I got a lot of houses to buy for DCs and my large family 😂 I buy lottery tickets as I want to go large!! 😆😆

But that's what is like to win. Just so I could relax and know everyone is taken care of. Because £1.5 million I'd want to still keep working ... (I love my job) I'd just pay off mortgages and buy a house for each child. I'm.South England though so properties are more down here 🤐😮😁

I know the exact amount. It is around 90% of our outstanding mortgage. This amount would open up a new set of options:

1. pay off mortgage with savings or leave a small amount
2. keep expenses the same and move house to the nicer side of town
3. drop days at work
4. Send dc to private school

As is, we are just plodding along, on a balanced budget, but without much change possible.

Any windfall would be nice but not properly. life changing in the short-term until the mortgage is paid off. When I was younger, having enough for w deposit would have been a game changer.

Once accessed, the equity or- even better- proceeds from sale would give us a substantial amount to either get a small mortgage on a fairly decent property or buy a property outright. Then I'd not have the stress of worrying about my health deteriorating so much and could drop my days at work too as we would be paying at least £500 less pcm than the rent we pay. I also yearn to have my own space especially as I hardly leave the house unless it's to go to work at the moment.

Never get embroiled in a family property situation!

I'd like to win a huge amount though so I could see my family ok then use the bulk to make a big difference in my community.

20k would be life changing for me. Enough for a deposit for a mortgage or to take a years sabbatical from work to try and sort myself out a bit (loads of health problems really not coping despite only working part time).

50k would mean my salary was covered so I could stop working and have the rest I need and spend time with dc. Dh could then concentrate on what he wants to do because I've got the kids covered. For a year or so we could try a different way without losing money.

I think £250k would be be a life changing sum for me. I'm young enough that investing £100k would pretty much mean I had a usable pension pot in 30 years, and that would also pay off the mortgage and finish the DIY with a bit left over for an amazing holiday. Which would mean I could afford to work 3 days a week which would be life changing levels of freedom.
