I feel a bit like a conspiracy theorist here - persisting in believing in a cover-up that an official investigation has apparently found didn't happen (yes, I know that's not what Muller said but it's more or less what Barr said he said). However, when Trump announced he was exonerated he was definitely using his "lying voice" - you know, the one where he tails off at the end of the sentence? He always speaks like that when he's telling a whopper. He also continues to call the investigation a witch hunt even though it's allegedly come out on his side. Go figure.

As I said, it's layers upon layers upon layers upon layers between Scrotus and his 'evil-doings'. And all it took was for one of those 'layers' to perjure themselves, refuse to talk, or to take the blame for commands that Scrotus gave. And so now, here we are. An admittedly (by Mueller & Barr vis a vis Russian interference) fraudulently elected president and an apparent dead end as far as collusion/conspiracy goes. And a fanbase who believes 'you're only a criminal if you get caught'. Or if you're poor and/or 'other'.

BUT there are still plenty of investigations ongoing regarding his & his associates shady/illegal business dealings. And these are state level investigations that the DoJ/Scrotus can't control. What remains to be seen is whether or not the Senate would feel that dirty dealings in his pre- or post-presidential 'private life' would be grounds to impeach him.

I can imagine that he just acted like the bumbling idiot that he is. To the point that Putin could have manipulated him without him realising it. Plausible deniability.

The rest of his team, though...

The way him and his court are profiting from his presidency, though... But I don't think most house reps or senators (particularly GOP, but not only) will want to make many waves in that direction.

Looks like Avenatti is in trouble (with SDNY).

Thanks, lion. Oh to be a fly on the wall at that meeting between Barr, Rosenstein and Mueller.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 25/03/2019 17:58

Former federal prosecutor John Flannery looks like Trump gone right. For a moment when I opened the link that had his photo at the top I thought it was Trump, but looking nicer, and less as if his mouth were a cat's arse, than I had ever seen him.

“Absence of such evidence.” One reason to be suspicious of Barr’s conclusions is that in the course of the letter, he tweaks Mueller’s opinion to look more like his own. Mueller’s report, as excerpted by Barr, says “the evidence does not establish that the President was involved in an underlying crime related to Russian election interference.” Barr quotes that line and then, in the same sentence, concludes that “the absence of such evidence bears upon the President’s intent with respect to obstruction.” But the excerpt from Mueller’s report doesn’t refer to an absence of evidence. It refers to a presence of evidence, and it says this evidence isn’t enough to prove a crime. Throughout the investigation, this has been a standard Republican maneuver: misrepresenting an absence of proof as an absence of evidence. Barr’s use of this maneuver in his letter is a red flag that he’s writing partisan spin. "

And in any case, as we all know, absence of proof is not proof of absence.

It's so damn depressing.

Seriously worried about the world my kids are growing up in right now. I've bitten all my nails down.

lionheart · 25/03/2019 18:19

There was always a question mark over Barr so we'll see what happens when the scrutiny really begins.

lionheart · 25/03/2019 18:23

Looks like a spike in Steele related posts--wonder if the bots have been organised in case of hotel type leaks.

lionheart · 25/03/2019 18:26

I don't know how he'd expect to get away with this unless he believes the report will not see the light of day.

Missmarplesknitting · 25/03/2019 18:32

They'll bury the full report until elections....

cozietoesie · 25/03/2019 18:56

A great deal of water to go under this bridge.Smile

BelleHathor · 25/03/2019 19:32

I think the Democrats should be careful what they wish for. Russiagate has already damaged them greatly, outside of the bubble many ordinary people are pissed off at being lied to for 3 years by the MSM and Dem politicians. I also have a feeling that the report will be fully declassified, and it will incriminate some well known names, just no one on Trump's team. This thing is way bigger than most think and involves international allies and the former administration colluding to try to remove Trump aka Treason.

This is what team Trump is sending out to the t.v. media.

"The ordinary people", if by that you mean Trump supporters, are quite happy being lied to on a daily basis by Trump. And by Sean Spicer. And by Sarah H Sanders.

They don't need a Mueller report to see the lies, because Trump contradicts himself and he evidence of their own eyes so often.

So don't bother with your manufactured indignation and unsupported accusations...
