So I let an acquaintance borrow one of the slings from my embarrassingly large collection a while ago. Made it clear that I’d be wanting it back.
Fast forward a few months and I’m expecting another baby, so will be needing it. It one of the few on the market with a lower weight limit for tiny babies (suitable from 5lbs) and I make small babies, which is why it’s this specific sling I’ll be wanting for my new baby.
Asked the other day about getting it back, and she said “oh it’s I’ve packed it away somewhere but will look.”
Mentioned it to another friend who also knows her and said she’s pretty sure that it was being advertised on a Facebook selling site a while back Hmm
AIBU to call her out on it, and expect either my sling back or the money to replace it?!
Who does that? Borrows something from a friend and then flogs it on the sly?!! Angry

Oh my goodness. What a shameless cow.

Housemum · 22/03/2019 21:38

I can't believe the brass neck of some people - I had a neighbour who passed on quite expensive clothes that her kids had outgrown - I asked if she wanted them back for anyone else, as she didn't I gave them to the charity shop. It would have just felt wrong to sell them as I got them for free. If I was really strapped for cash I would have asked her direct if I could sell them. So even if your friend was confused (don't think so though!) she should still have asked before selling.

IggyAce · 22/03/2019 21:43

Incredibly cheeky, I’d send her the screen shot and demand it back or the money for a new one.
I gave a friend a load of baby stuff and before donating to charity she checked that I didn’t want it back.

jade9390 · 22/03/2019 21:45

Never loan anything out as you never get it back. I am livid about a rare book I loaned out which is now selling for a £100. Keep asking and let it be known to friends in your circle.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 22/03/2019 21:53

I think just ask her to buy you a new one if she can’t find it. What a pain in the neck.

Zippetydoodahzippetyay · 22/03/2019 21:56

Unbelievably cheeky. I hope you call her out on this and don't settle for anything less than the full replacement cost.

Malope · 22/03/2019 21:59

Hope it works out okay...

foxandthehound · 22/03/2019 22:00
Shock

Hope you get your money op

WanderingDaffodil · 22/03/2019 22:07

Good luck getting your money back.

Kaleela · 22/03/2019 22:08

Wow I hope you get your money back and she is thoroughly embarrassed.

Cagliostro · 22/03/2019 22:14

Really hope she just said to your friend that it was sold because she knew she had to give it back.

Find the same one online and ask for THAT price, or £40 whichever is higher

seven201 · 22/03/2019 22:15

Do you think you just happened to ask her for it back between her putting it on marketplace and your friend posing as a buyer? So she puts it on, no one buys it, you ask for it back, your friend asks if she can buy it and cf says no it's sold as she realises you want it back. Or changes listing to read sold after you ask for it back. Unless I've misunderstood the timeline.

StoppinBy · 22/03/2019 22:15

If she does have it she would of course tell your friend it was sold as she now knows she has to get it back to you, she may well have forgotten that the ad was up still.

How rude of her, even if she thought you had given it to her then she should have been passing it on and not selling it when she was done.

Keen to see if you get the actual sling back, if she doesn't have it then she definitely needs to give you the money to cover the full replacement cost and not just what you paid for it on sale or what she sold it for!

7circlemats · 22/03/2019 22:17

Very rude of her

thenightsky · 22/03/2019 22:19

Cheeky bitch. I can well believe it though. I once lent my own sister a television when she was skint and living in a horrible bed sit alone. When she was moving 6 months later, having come into some money, I asked for it back. She just shrugged and said she'd sold it like it was hers to sell and I was the unreasonable one for even asking for it back. Confused

Smelborp · 22/03/2019 22:20

Hopefully she’s reserving it for you. I had trouble getting slings back. I don’t know why, I was also clear they were a loan.

BunsOfAnarchy · 22/03/2019 22:23

Why has MN deleted your post?! Q

JustTwoMoreSecs · 22/03/2019 22:24

Unbelievable! Especially as you said from the beginning you wanted it back. Curious to see what she will say...

BumbleBeee69 · 22/03/2019 22:29

outrageous behaviour from an alleged friend OP, I hope you call her out Flowers

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/03/2019 22:30

buns - it probably mentions names/phone details or something

I can't bear people like this. If you say you want it back, you want it back. Some people seem to have no concept of "loan" and just think possession is 9/10ths of the law and what are you going to do?
So rude.

At least you know, and you can tell everyone else, that she's not someone to lend stuff too as she just sells it!

Hope you do get the money, but chances are, if she sold it for £10, that's all you'll get.

ThedementedPenguin · 22/03/2019 22:31

Wow I am shocked at how much of a CF she is.
When my SIL got pregnant we gave her all our baby things, when she was finished she asked if we wanted them back or should she pass them on. I wasn’t expecting to be asked as we told her when we gave them to her we were done and to get rid of anything she didn’t want.

TheLoneWolfDies · 22/03/2019 22:32

I cant believe what im reading bloody hell

werideatdawn · 22/03/2019 22:34

You could easily find the marketplace listing (and the sellers profile) from OP's picture that's why Wink

MrsJDornan · 22/03/2019 22:36

Definitely a cheeky sod, who does that? I'd cal her out on it
