To like these baby names???

A light-hearted thread, these are the names people have called me crazy for liking but they're my guilty pleasure names!
Am I alone in all of them? Or does anyone else like any of these?
FWIW, I wouldn't be brave enough to use any, but I do love them! Blush

Boys: Basil, Clay, Humphrey, Pluto, Rubeus, Rusty, Tokyo

Girls: Asia, Bambi, Grey, Jonah, Kobie, Panda, Texas, Tig

Are they all as crazy as people make out? 😂
Also FWIW, my baby name list includes completely mainstream and traditional names too, these are the most 'out there' of a big bunch, I'm just interested to see if there's any other odd one out person who likes any from my out out there list!

Asia and bambi are ok, the others aren't

Janedoughnut · 20/01/2019 19:22

Yes

Soubriquet · 20/01/2019 19:23

I couldn’t imagine calling any baby girl those names.. especially ones like Bambi. Could you imagine a 35 year old Bambi? Confused

Guineapiglet345 · 20/01/2019 19:23

I’d definitely roll my eyes if I heard any of these at a baby group, but each to their own Grin

Haworthia · 20/01/2019 19:23

I had... issues with your boy names, but then I read your girl names which are just off-the-scale terrible, I’m sorry!

DroningOn · 20/01/2019 19:23

Sorry, it's a no from me.

Klopptimist · 20/01/2019 19:25

Thing is, they aren't "baby names" for long are they? A 6mo called, say Bambi, might sound cute but a fully grown adult?

Pachyderm1 · 20/01/2019 19:25

I mean, as far as I’m concerned they are truly terrible and will probably set the child in question up for a lifetime of negative assumptions and bullying but you do you! If I met a child with any of those names in real life I’d be polite about it.

hidinginthenightgarden · 20/01/2019 19:25

I think the problem is they may be nice baby names but what about teenagers and adults? Will they work then?

Klopptimist · 20/01/2019 19:25

Oops, cross posted!

Chewinggumwalk · 20/01/2019 19:25

In the nicest possible way.... I hope you’re winding us up!!

What else have you got?

MorningsEleven · 20/01/2019 19:27

Fuck a duck! You need an intervention.

namechange943 · 20/01/2019 19:27

@Chewinggumwalk not even pregnant yet, but thinking about TTC. Looking through baby names is just a hobby!

But like I said, I wouldn't use any of these, they're just guilty pleasure names and I was interested to see if anyone thought any would ever be usable, as I only have reactions from close friends or DM and DP.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 20/01/2019 19:28

They are mostly terrible.

Cornettoninja · 20/01/2019 19:29

I like 75% of your boys names, basil is lovely but I don’t know if I’d fancy fighting off baz as a nickname. The girls names are really unappealing to me.

To echo a previous poster, they don’t lend themselves to anyone above the age of 5 very well.

TroysMammy · 20/01/2019 19:30

You've got to post a photo of your puppy and kitten. It's MN law.

Cornettoninja · 20/01/2019 19:31

@troysmammy sniggers

SpotlessMind · 20/01/2019 19:32

These are names to give puppies and kittens, not human babies.

Chewinggumwalk · 20/01/2019 19:32

Ah I see! It is one of the fun bits about being pregnant.

Until you present your lovely, carefully thought out, “laminated” (to misquote “Friends”) list, and your husband says calmly that he doesn’t like any of them, and what about Ellen or Sara or something completely different Angry

FlippinNora1 · 20/01/2019 19:33

Out of all them Bambi is the worst. Can you imagine the poor adult woman lumbered with it. Especially if she wasn’t built like a skinny little fawn and wanted to be taken seriously.

Some of them are okayish as nicknames. Nicknames that hopefully get dropped after primary school.

hlgains · 20/01/2019 19:34

Clay for a boy is ok - the main character in 10 Reasons Why is called Clay.
Also don’t mind Grey for a girl but not sure I’d use it.
The others are a no from me. But then I had some pretty out there names on my long list - Fane anyone?

hazeydays14 · 20/01/2019 19:40

Please please please don’t name your child Rusty.. if they turn out to be ginger they will never ever hear the end of it Grin

I was born with masses of brown hair, at 6 months it fell out and grew back ginger, imagine my mum had picked Ginger as a name 😂

Kids already have plenty of creative names for gingers without the extra ammunition!

Clay is the only boys name I’d consider, I don’t think I’d ever use any of the girls names.

Itwasbestoftimesworstoftimes · 20/01/2019 19:41

Panda short for Pandora would be ok

CoughLaughFart · 20/01/2019 19:47

I’m looking for a redeeming feature and can’t find one for any of them. Sorry!

bridgetreilly · 20/01/2019 19:49

Jonah is a boy's name. Please don't ever call your daughter this name.

I do like Humphrey, but otherwise I'd say that what you've got there is a list of nicknames.
