A light-hearted thread, these are the names people have called me crazy for liking but they're my guilty pleasure names!
Am I alone in all of them? Or does anyone else like any of these?
FWIW, I wouldn't be brave enough to use any, but I do love them! Blush

Boys: Basil, Clay, Humphrey, Pluto, Rubeus, Rusty, Tokyo

Girls: Asia, Bambi, Grey, Jonah, Kobie, Panda, Texas, Tig

Are they all as crazy as people make out? 😂
Also FWIW, my baby name list includes completely mainstream and traditional names too, these are the most 'out there' of a big bunch, I'm just interested to see if there's any other odd one out person who likes any from my out out there list!

OP posts:

They are all awful IMO but other people's guilty pleasure names often are.

My guilty pleasure names are ones like Persephone, Calliope, Kerensa, Antoinette

missmouse101 · 20/01/2019 21:51

Interesting! Mine were Fawn for a girl and Ptolemy for a boy (silent p!)

CrazyOldBagLady · 20/01/2019 21:57

Your list just sounds to me like you are trying to make words with a bunch of scrabble tiles, I don't even recognise the majority of them as actual names.

Thesmallthings · 20/01/2019 22:11

I know of a aisha, she suits her name, a kobie to.

I like grey to.

But I love the name beau for a boy or girl

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 20/01/2019 22:15

@MarielVanArkleStinks - one of the London Evening Standard crossword setters uses "jonah"/"jinx" quite often, so it's ingrained in me now. It was my first thought on seeing "Jonah" too!

CSIblonde · 20/01/2019 22:18

Sorry OP, but those all sound like dog names.

Essexgirlupnorth · 20/01/2019 22:26

My friends son is Clay short for Clayton which is her maiden name she does live in the states where surnames as first names is more common.

VampirateQueen · 20/01/2019 22:43

I like Clay and Pluto but none of the others, sorry.
I like:
Boys; Negan, Geordi, Phineas, Bae, Killian, Logan

Girls; Regina, Zelena, Xena, Olympia

HMBB · 20/01/2019 22:48

My dad is named Basil and he is a real gentleman. I love the name but then I am biased Smile

FlippinNora1 · 20/01/2019 23:06

I knew a drag queen called Bambi Dextrous years ago

That has to be one of the best drag queen names ever!

SlimGin · 21/01/2019 00:21

It's nice to have fantasy names though isn't it! I was drawn to ridiculous names when choosing a name for DD. Even asked DP about Daffodil.

Bambi, Panda and Tig could all be cute nicknames. Texas is a pornstar name.

Anoushkasays · 21/01/2019 00:41

I don't mind the boys:
Basil Rathbone, Clay Stone (from the film City Slickers)!, Humphrey Bogart (obvs), Pluto- well, it did get de-planetarised, Rusty Trawler (from Breakfast at Tiffany's)
For the girls, i think Asia, Kobie and maybe Grey- actually, i think Kobie would be lovely if it fits with surname.

Abouttoblow · 21/01/2019 00:47

YABU to be asking when you're not even pregnant.

HenDoo · 21/01/2019 00:48

Kobie just makes me think of Obi Wan Kenobi outta Star Wars Grin

Sashkin · 21/01/2019 00:54

A lot of the girls’ names would sound like porno names on an adult: Bambi the stripper; Texas and Asia also sound very porny to me.

Tig sounds like a public school hockey girl nickname - I’d expect anyone calling themselves that as an adult to be a complete twat, and probably married to somebody called Spiffy or Guffy or Poffy who went to school with Princess Eugenie’s husband’s younger brother.

GlitterStick · 21/01/2019 00:55

Just no. To any of them assuming you're serious Grin
Basil?! Lmao. Just internally screeched that Sybil style lol

Sashkin · 21/01/2019 00:58

And if you are giving your DD a boys name anyway (Jonah, Kobe, even Tig), why not just use Timothy, Steven or Robert? At least people will be able to spell those ones!

Sashkin · 21/01/2019 00:58

I was thinking Basil Brush, Glitter. Boom boom!

GlitterStick · 21/01/2019 01:04

Basil Brush!!! How could I forget Basil Brush lol.
BOOM, BOOM!

DuckofDoom · 21/01/2019 01:09

Basil the rat

He’s not a rat. He’s a hamster

HappyGoLuckyGo · 21/01/2019 01:13

He’s a fox, isn’t he?!

VetOnCall · 21/01/2019 02:17

Rubeus as in Hagrid? Confused

Pluto, Bambi and Panda are beyond awful. They are not names for a human being. The rest aren't good but those are spectacularly terrible.

An old schoolfriend has a 3YO Basil, poor kid. They get the 'Brush or Fawlty?' comment all the time.

Sickofthispain14 · 21/01/2019 02:37

Basil and Humphrey?! Jesus wept

Lovingbenidorm · 21/01/2019 02:43

I’d consider Basil, Humphrey & Jonah
Otherwise nooooooooooooooooooptynooooo!

Canuckduck · 21/01/2019 03:10

Clay, short for Clayton was a pretty common boys name in 1980’s Canada. I actually don’t mind Rusty but probably wouldn’t choose it. The girl’s names are awful.
