From Bette Davis, who was too canny to name names. Smile

Here is the old thread:

I looked at Mr Bharara's Twitter because of that. Thanks lion.

Sometime in the next month or so, Russia plans to isolate its internet services as an exercise. This is concerning on many levels. Is this military or war preparedness? Is it similar the ways China controls, censors and mandates the internet for its citizens? What will Russia do in the time that curtain is drawn?

My son like to say, “How Orwellian” about various things. This tweet of Trump’s is particularly fitting. If you don’t appreciate your facts being checked, well ...

Hmm. (I’ve included Scherba’s image as I think it’s quite illustrative of the content of the tweet.)

Putin's adviser Surkov to those "who cry about Russian meddling in elections": "Things are much more serious: we meddle with your brains, we change your conscience - and you have no clue what to do about it".

Bipartisan agreement appears to have been reached re: wall funding. However: it is only $1B or so, and it specifically bars to construction of a concrete barrier. It only allows for the use of other kinds of barrier structures. It is unknown if Trump agrees to to this, averting a potential government shutdown. (He was too busy rallying to be involved with talks.)

Sound bites from Trump’s rally.

Trump doesn’t understand how asylum works:

‘Trump says “only the dumbest” would should up for their court dates after seeking asylum. He says other countries tell illegal immigrants to “get out. Can’t come in.”

He says this was a system put in by “really dumb people” or those who did not have America’s interests in mind.’

On ICE and law enforcement, who went unpaid for more than a month: ‘We will never abolish ICE,” Trump says. “I will never sign a bill that forces the mass release of violent criminals into our country. And I will never abolish or in any way mistreat our great heroes from ICE and Border Patrol and law enforcement. Never!”

On Ocasio-Cortez (he lets his hyperbole run here, yet these lies will be repeated verbatim by the MAGA-sheep as they don’t employ critical thinking): ‘Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal like a “high school term paper” that got “low marks.” He wonders how you take a train to Europe. “They want to take away your car, reduce the value of your home, and put millions of Americans out of work,” Trump says, already making the Green New Deal a big part of his stump speech. Trump also says no other country except America is going to spend trillions on the Green New Deal. He says Democrats want to tear down every building in New York and make them slightly more environmentally friendly. He then blasts them for wanting to raise taxes to “pave the road to socialism.”’

The rest was his usual boring stuff.

TheClaws · 12/02/2019 05:14

Apparently Trump has already rejected the revised deal - worked on by others while he wasn’t there. At his dinky rally, he said to his base, “I chose to be with you instead.” This will make them faint in admiration so they can ignore that he has FUBAR-ed yet another wall offer.

And on and on it goes.

Just attended my first @realDonaldTrump rally where my colleague BBC cameraman Rob Skeans was attacked by a Trump supporter. The crowd had been whipped up into a frenzy against the media by Trump and other speakers all night #TrumpElPaso

Roussette · 12/02/2019 08:38

I watched and read bits of his pathetic cult rally at El Paso. And he's on again about cut up women, women tied up in the back of cars etc. Given that Border Patrol have said there's no evidence of that, one can only presume it's some sick fantasy of his bleurghhhhhh

This was good to see... Beto O'Rourke who was born in El Paso,

@betawriter
Replying to @IngrahamAngle @realDonaldTrump
It would seem that Beto had approximately twice as many people turn out at his event. Which is interesting, considering Trump is the President of the United States and Beto isn't currently running for any office ... yet.

TheClaws · 12/02/2019 08:38

Resolution from El Paso county. Well worth reading!

adrienneJ · 12/02/2019 09:53

As for the MW comment, I'll just leave that to speak for itself!

And standing by itself its not a good idea, its a political move by government party's that want to increase voting numbers amongst the lowest paid workers who they smuggly believe don't know any better and will think its of some great benefit to the country its imposed in.

cozietoesie · 12/02/2019 09:54

Indeed. Thanks, Claws.

Disillusioned

TheClaws · 12/02/2019 10:18

Sure, adrienne.

Lweji · 12/02/2019 13:48

Interesting perspective. Should Democrats agree on a deal now?

thehill.com/opinion/immigration/429526-immigration-deal-needs-moderate-democrats-silence-is-their-peril

It's a right wing perspective.

I don't think I agree with this
"Unless members of the newly minted Democratic majority proactively create daylight for themselves, moderate and conservative-leaning voters in their districts will get the message only from the loud fringes of the party. That is, that Democratic immigration policy amounts to the following: Any person can come here, at any time, do whatever they want, and stay indefinitely."

It seems to me that it's Republicans who accuse Democrats of this, not the message Democrats send.

And I have the feeling that Democrats have been damaged, in the last few years at least, by not standing up to Republican tough players.

Should Democrats reach for the middle ground or stand for their cause?

Senate has uncovered no direct evidence of conspiracy between Trump campaign and Russia
"We were never going find a contract signed in blood saying, 'Hey Vlad, we're going to collude," one Democratic aide said.

www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna970536

Those facts are beyond dispute. But they also have been known for some time — and have not seemed to change Trump's political standing.

[this thread explores that idea, though it’s not about this news article:
