To think this is really unhygienic ?!

To think you don’t bloody sneeze in public?Probably get flamed for this but I absolutely detest people sneezing openly in public. It spreads germs and it’s NOT THAT HARD to internally sneeze as in like hold yourself back when you sneeze!

What about you hygiene pet peeves?

Another one is LICKING THE SUPERMARKET BAGS....why?! Why would I want you to slurp on your finger and then use your saliva to lubricate my bag and then continue to put my fresh produce into said bag. EW EW EW.

PS. Don’t say people can’t help sneezing, because unless you are challenged in someway , you ABSOLUTELY can.

Sneezing is unavoidable, perfectly possible to sneeze into a clean tissue and pocket it, or into the crook of your elbow - the spray is lodged into your sleeve where it is least likely to come in contact with other people. Likewise coughing, much better than using your hand which then just transfers the droplets to all you touch.

robinwasntred · 12/01/2019 18:09

I can't help sneezing. I've often wondered how people stifle sneezes but can't do it myself, so I guess I must be challenged. I do cover my mouth and nose though.

I do lick my finger if I have to open a plastic bag, though not with dog poo bags.

I've never heard of anyone spooning out a bit of food into a bowl to taste, I just stick my spoon in - surely the cooking process will remove any germs?

I've also never before come across the idea that nose blowing is digusting, but I dislike people leaving used tissues lying around. I use cloth hankies and I know some people think they are unhygienic because they're used more than once and I've also been told they should be boiled for 10 minutes. I use the same hankie all day and just chuck them in the wash with everything else and am still alive and healthy, but maybe that's just extreme good luck.

Badtasteflump · 12/01/2019 18:17

I once used a supermarket where the checkout person licked their finger before giving me a bag. It made me want to puke - until I walked past the fresh bread stand on the way out and saw the man stocking it with one hand down the arse of his jeans having a good old rummage.

I dumped the sandwich & few bits I’d bought when I got home and never used that ‘express’ store again - it shut about a year after opening so I presume it was all-round quite shit.

Fowles94 · 12/01/2019 18:20

I must be challenged because when I sneeze that fucker is coming out.

Then I bring my own bags 🤷‍♀️ and yes everytime.

greenpop21 · 12/01/2019 18:20

What?
I can't hold in a sneeze! I do cover my mouth with a tissue if I have one of sneeze into the crook of my arm or at the very least turn away.

JanisJoplin73 · 12/01/2019 18:22

People filing their nails on public transport- bring made to inhale their dead cells. Gross.

greenpop21 · 12/01/2019 18:23

I tell you what's worse and can't believe people accept it- ice cream van vendors taking your money in the same ungloved hand that they hold your cone with. The same cone you will eat. YUK!
Always get a lolly for that reason.

Roussette · 12/01/2019 18:25

*I never knew saliva was equivalent to Novichok

This. I'm surprised people manage to leave the house at all!*

I wrote the novichok comment and agree with the response and also wonder how people actualy snog? Or swap bodily fluids? I know the comment was as a result of bag licking but if I felt as strongly as that, I would've never snogged anyone and used tongues because it would all be revolting surely...

LoniceraJaponica · 12/01/2019 18:26

"As I've said many a time on MN, luckily no one I know personally is like this. They're not like it about having to answer the doorbell, texting before you know someone is up, boil washing your sheets and/or towels every day, and now sneezing grin"

I agree @Roussette. Mumsnet seems to attract people with extreme opinions. There are some real germophobes on here, and some whose badge of honour is living in squalor.

OleWomanInAShoe · 12/01/2019 18:27

Of you flick the end of your nose it effectively makes the sneezy feeling go away.

myhamsteratefreddiestarr · 12/01/2019 18:28

As a million people have said already Grin, you can't hold in a sneeze and you shouldn't hold in a sneeze.

Of course you should cover your mouth when you sneeze.....

I know a woman who supressed a sneeze and ended up with a brain aneurysm! It is very rare, but it can happen and she was very unwell for a long time afterwards.

Roussette · 12/01/2019 18:28

Good grief, I need to update everything I now can't do. I wouldn't particularly file my nails on the train but if I'd caught my nail somewhere I would. I wouldn't care if anyone else did either. Ditto icecream from van!

When did we all become so sterile? I feel like I've been to sleep for 4 decades and woken up to madness! Luckily none of my DCs, DH, family or friends would worry about any of these ridiculous things!

Frogletmamma · 12/01/2019 18:29

I tried stifling a sneeze once and ended up with a nosebleed. Much more unpleasant.

girlwithadragontattoo · 12/01/2019 18:48

Next you'll be telling us to control our periods....

delboysskinandblister · 12/01/2019 18:53

50% with you 50% not.

I know exactly what you mean but I cannot surpress my sneezes. I do cover my sneezes. However, I do not forgive anyone who sneezes without attempting to cover their nose with a tissue or anything that isn't over me or goods in a shop. Unforgivable! Coughing too.

You can't help coughing and sneezing but you can help covering it!

My pet peeve is people who do not wash their hands when they come out the ladies... and then swan back into the supermarket to touch food.

Sparkerparker · 12/01/2019 18:54

Do you think you have anger issues?

BF888 · 12/01/2019 18:55

I am the exact same! I actually have a phobia of sneezing I never sneeze outwardly and I am hyper sensitive in public about it. (Odd I know) I hardly sneeze at all so it’s a good thing.

I can’t bear when people lick their fingers to get a bag, and then carry on scanning my shopping, yuk!

When people are really full of cold and love to hold tissue and then touch every thing in sight.

Not personal hygiene but My overall thing is personal space, i can’t deal with those people in queues who practically have a piggy back off me because they’re that close. Worse when they follow when moving away oh and when they stink.

BertieBotts · 12/01/2019 18:55

How do you hold in a sneeze?? Confused

OP are you sure you aren't thinking of farts?

nannykatherine · 12/01/2019 18:56

have you ever had hay fever or s dust allergy ??

winniestone37 · 12/01/2019 19:02

After surgery on my nose after a post cancer operation I sneeze frequently. I only wish I knew you and you said this in front of me so I could sneeze on you. You are a ridiculous and pathetic human.

pinkstripeycat · 12/01/2019 19:03

Some sneezes are really strong and cannot be held in. I knew someone who sneezed and broke her neck! She died from the broken neck. She’d fallen over 12 months before and unbeknown to anyone had partially damaged her neck. A big sneeze caused the final damage.

LadyHardy · 12/01/2019 19:05

This post is pissing me off. Those of you grossed out by licked envelopes, not holding back sneezes, sitting on toilet seats, licking fingers to take shopping bags etc are idiots and need to chill the fuck out. For the most part germs are good for your immune system.

pictish · 12/01/2019 19:08

Ach the germphobics get on my tits too. How fortunate to be so privileged and oblivious as to have envelopes to worry about.

Tweez · 12/01/2019 19:13

It can actually be quite dangerous if you stop yourself sneezing. The pressure can cause a detached retina, which is what happened with someone I know. I cover my mouth and usually try and get a tissue in time.

StarB3 · 12/01/2019 19:14

'Challenged? I have bad allergies sometimes and can't help but sneeze. Sometimes I can manage to hold it others not. I don't understand the challenged comment
