To think you don’t bloody sneeze in public?Probably get flamed for this but I absolutely detest people sneezing openly in public. It spreads germs and it’s NOT THAT HARD to internally sneeze as in like hold yourself back when you sneeze!

What about you hygiene pet peeves?

Another one is LICKING THE SUPERMARKET BAGS....why?! Why would I want you to slurp on your finger and then use your saliva to lubricate my bag and then continue to put my fresh produce into said bag. EW EW EW.

PS. Don’t say people can’t help sneezing, because unless you are challenged in someway , you ABSOLUTELY can.

I was in a work meeting and needed to sneeze. I have anxiety so sneezing loudly, but In a tissue, was out of the question (all the attention it could of brought to meBlush).
I tried sneezing internally. I either done it so bad, or it's a coincidence, but after sneezing I had a really bad nose bleed. I am never going to try that again

Magenta46 · 11/01/2019 22:57

I sneeze every time I enter a place that sells cosmetics or other highly scented stuff. I can't help it.I keep tissues in my pocket, but not always quick enough to have them at the ready so my donny suffices

allwalkedout · 11/01/2019 23:03

Reading this has really made the word sneeze start to seem really weird to me now.

And internal sneeze made me laugh!

LoniceraJaponica · 11/01/2019 23:14

"I have a theory. I think that many people are on Mumsnet in preference to actually being out in real life. It is the only explanation for the many posters who are horrified by bodily functions and have visceral reactions to perfectly normal objects and situations."

I'm inclined to agree. There are too many germophobes on here.

What's a donny Magenta46?

pineapplebryanbrown · 11/01/2019 23:16

I was caring for someone who spat at a duck today, he's got Alzheimer's,but still.....

My jumpers are multi functional, i sneeze into my top and down passed my ample bosom. When i have been to the toilet i turn up my taps with my elbows, dry my hands on my trousers or on my hair if necessary. I then use my jumper to open all door knobs.

SchnitzelVonCrum · 11/01/2019 23:22

I have fully diagnosed health anxiety, I’m not going to even start otherwise I’d be here all night!

SheChoseDown · 12/01/2019 00:08

Farting when you sneeze feels euphoric. Really balances shit out

MiniMum97 · 12/01/2019 00:12

How the fuck do you internally sneeze?!?! Very often I don't even know a sneeze is coming let alone be able to hold it in!

Amimissingsomethinghere · 12/01/2019 05:43

Okay I genuinely did not know about the dangers of internally sneezing (not sure that’s the correct terminology but it’s the only way I can explain it!)

I guess living in central London you have a lot of rude people who just don’t seem to care if they spread whatever it is all over the joint!

With this new knowledge of internally sneezing (!) then I guess it would be unreasonable to expect people to do it. BUT they need to sneeze into a tissue and then use antibac hand gel or wipes!!!!!!!!!!! Don’t just sneeze into your hand then spread it everywhere Hmm

swapsicles · 12/01/2019 06:18

I think I internally sneeze most of the time, I've worked in retail for many years and when you're in front of a customer or several in a queue and no tissue it has to be done.
Try to always carry tissue but it does run out and some uniforms don't have pockets!
If I'm at home or out and no-one is around then I will let it all out but that's rare.

AndhowcouldIeverrefuse · 12/01/2019 06:46

use antibac hand gel or wipes!!!!!!!!!!!
a) most colds are caused by viruses so antibacterial stuff is pointless. Not that it works anyway.
b) the most prolific sneezers are allergy sufferers - you cannot catch their allergy off them.
Of course normal politeness applies so you loosely cover your mouth and nose.

Cheeseart · 12/01/2019 06:51

Years ago I briefly went to boarding school, it was in the middle of nowhere, not much to do, we used to do sneezing wars, I remember it being 5 points for a face shot, we were grim children Envy

I can't hold in a sneeze, but if I sneeze in public its into a tissue or the crook of my arm.

hendricksy · 12/01/2019 07:16

When I sneeze I hold my nose and keep my mouth shut u less I have a tissue to hand .
Is that an jnternal sneeze ? I've always thought it was polite to do this ? ... I also hate people coughing and sneezing near me but let's face it most people can't help it..
And before anyone says it I have no OCD issues , just felt it's normal to keep your bodily functions to yourself where possible . 🤷‍♀️

NoParticularPattern · 12/01/2019 07:29

You do realise that you can sneeze even when you’re not ill right? And even if sneezing was only a thing that ill people do then you do also realise that it’s not the only method that spreads their germs? Just sharing airspace with someone who has a cold will mean you are sharing their germs, unless you expect people who are ill not to breathe then you’re probably being needlessly ridiculous over something which is not the whole problem.

And stop going to places that let people lick your bags. I can’t say I’ve ever felt the need to do it nor have I ever witnessed someone doing it. I think you might live in a parallel dimension.

CherryPavlova · 12/01/2019 07:32

Holding sneezes in is, as mentioned, a very bad idea.

Amimissingsomethinghere · 12/01/2019 08:03

**And stop going to places that let people lick your bags.

How do you suggest I do that? People just lick their fingers then use it to open a bag for my purchase.

People do it. I don’t live in some random place. I’m a normal young woman who lives and works in central London with a small baby!

Gonna duck and hide after this because I know most people think the opposite, but I think nose blowing is revolting, and much prefer sniffing.

NEITHER sounds good so there's no advantage there.
I dab my nose with a tissue rather than blow to avoid running noses.
Blowing forces the virus and snot in the wrong direction and irritates the back of the throat.

I find since I adopted the dab and sniff method (when I stopped giving a shit about others preferences), my colds cleared up much quicker.

LoniceraJaponica · 12/01/2019 10:01

Sniffing is a vile and irritating habit. I associate it with children who haven't learned how to blow their nose properly.

NoParticularPattern · 12/01/2019 10:04

Bit I don’t understand why someone else is handling your bags? They’re your bags, why aren’t you the one handling them? Although this whole thing with the bags could be avoided by taking your lovely hygienic bags from home surely? Although since you probably don’t sterilise them after each use they’re probably just as full of germs anyway. Honestly if this is all you have to worry about in life then I’d count myself incredibly privileged if I were you!

masterandmargarita · 12/01/2019 10:06

Just keep fit and healthy and keep your immune system strong - so you don't have to worry about stuff like that

GrannyHaddock · 12/01/2019 10:06

HRTFT, and sorry if this has already been mentioned, but a man burst his throat recently stifling a sneeze; he needed a week in hospital and was lucky it wasn't worse.

pictish · 12/01/2019 10:11

How the hell do you get time to root in your bag for a tissue before you sneeze?!

NigelGresley · 12/01/2019 10:13

Farting when you sneeze feels euphoric. Really balances shit out

🤣🤣🤣🤣

OP I thought I was bad, but this suggestion is ridiculous. Providing people sneeze into a tissue, cover their face or divert it away from people/things it’s fine.

thecatsthecats · 12/01/2019 10:25

Lonicera

Fair enough. To me, nose blowing is not only vile, but contrary to bodily function and sensible health practice. I associate it with people who don't understand the human immune system very well.

Hoopaloop · 12/01/2019 10:25

People who stifle sneezes are haram.
