I know it's yet another brexit thread but it genuinely just hit me that it's actually happening THIS YEAR! I am truly gutted. Would love someone with political knowledge to come on and reassure me that it actually won't be that bad. I have 3 children who have to live with the repercussions.

buble is on jules holland-this has to be a good sign

Yeah this is on my mind too, I don’t think that we will leave though. We will end up in the naughty corner with a real shit end of the stick, but I don’t think we will leave.

NRPDad · 01/01/2019 01:04

Exit Brexit

Almahart · 01/01/2019 01:06

It’s really upsetting. I thought until recently it wouldn’t happen but I’m pretty sure May’s deal will go through

Why the fuck would people living as British expats in Spain vote for Brexit? Whenever I hear people saying that they voted to leave because ‘we were fine before we joined’ I think this is why referendums are a bad idea. I don’t care if I sound like the metropolitan elite in saying that I really don’t give a shit. My dad and my in laws all voted to leave because they didn’t understand globalisation.

Coffeebean76 · 01/01/2019 01:06

I know OP. It’s sad.

I wish I could offer reassurance but I feel confident that EU nationals settled in the UK will be given the right to stay. X

YANBU OP. I'm hoping that enough MPs develop a backbone to just say: fuck this.

Given that: maybe the first job for all of us tomorrow should be to email our MPs to ask that whatever else they do this year, No Deal cannot be an option, and No Brexit should be their priority. A lot of MPs are only hearing from the most rabid brexiteers, and need a bit of moral support.

I’ve never been an EU citizen Hmm

No such thing.

Togaandsandals · 01/01/2019 01:13

I know Almanart I just can’t get my head around such a stance when you have utilised freedom of movement!

sonlypuppyfat · 01/01/2019 01:15

I can't believe the utter bollocks I'm reading. Leaving can't come quickly enough for me. I've never considered myself a European

Togaandsandals · 01/01/2019 01:22

soonlypuppyfat, many of us are dismayed to see our freedom to work, study and live in 27 other countries taken away hugely sad. It’s so selfish of people like you to dismiss it as bollocks. Also are you looking forward to this country being considerably poorer? Even main Leave campaigners acknowledge the UK’s GDP will reduce and it will be many years, if at all, the UK will recover economically.

WitchSharkadder · 01/01/2019 01:24

I feel the same way as the majority of you. I feel very sad about the limiting of my children’s options in the future and worried about what the year will bring.

I will definitely be writing to my MP tomorrow but fear that, I’m a town with a huge majority of leavers, my voice won’t be heard.

Racecardriver · 01/01/2019 01:25

I’m not an EU citizen. Has zero impact on my life. Chill out.

DioneTheDiabolist · 01/01/2019 01:25

You can't believe that people think differently to you sonlypuppyfat? Xmas Hmm A lot of people voted Remain.

SusanWalker · 01/01/2019 01:26

It's ever so sad isn't it. I was born in 75. It's my birthright I'm losing, or that's how it feels to me. And i don't travel in Europe because I'm poor and can't afford it but it was nice knowing i could one day if I wanted to. I know we'll still be able to go on holiday but it's not the same as being able to go anywhere for as long as you want or to get a job or retire.

Racecardriver · 01/01/2019 01:27

@togaandsandals you don’t need to be an eu citizen to do that though. Obtaining visas is not hard. I am an a non eu citizen living, working and, studying in an eu country. It’s not hard. It’s not like we’re talking about the iron curtain here.

Crudd · 01/01/2019 01:27

It just seems like we're making our country poorer and shitter to give those who think the Union Jack is somehow more important than having a good quality of life a bit more of a thrill when waving their flags. It's deranged.

User758172 · 01/01/2019 01:28

many of us are dismayed to see our freedom to work, study and live in 27 other countries taken away

All those things will still be possible. Don’t be silly.

SusanWalker · 01/01/2019 01:28

I also live somewhere with a fair amount of polish and other EE immigrants and I love going to the polish deli and trying new things or hearing people speak in another language in tesco. If they all stop coming i will miss that too. And they are mostly farm.workers so not covered by the new high skilled immigration policy.

YankeeCandlePong · 01/01/2019 01:30

We've not left yet - there's still hope. Let's fight to stay - don't throw the towel in!

User758172 · 01/01/2019 01:30

Some folks would disagree with you there.

adriennewillfly · 01/01/2019 01:31

2018 was the year I realised how shallow thinking and easily manipulated the uk population really is. I used to be militantly anti-tory, but I now realise that people have different views to me, and that doesn't make them worse or stupid. Just that they have a different world view. We can have a shit time in the EU and a shit time out of the EU.

People can still find ways to live abroad. For example, it's possible to be out of the EU and still be a part of ERASMUS, and there are other academic exchange programmes.

LittleLionMansMummy · 01/01/2019 01:32

It won't be that bad op, because Brexit won't happen.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

SusanWalker · 01/01/2019 01:35

MrsAriadneOliver

They are more than welcome to disagree with me but I was posting my point of view, that being the normal thing to do on mumsnet.
