To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

67 Reports 67 individuals ..... could be 5 people and lots of news outlets

Seriously
Focus on the real stuff
Muppets with drones have been an issue around UK airports for years
Chris Grayling was leaned on by the industry not to bring in controls
both Gatwich and Heathrow have big anti flights groups
and then there is Putin

I still UTTERLY stand by my analysis up thread.
Call me out on it in a year if you like

Neighbours would have shopped this to the media. They could have kept quiet. They behaved deplorable.

Presumably the neighbours they were having problems with because the neighbours hedge was overgrown. Whoever it was, it's disgusting that they gave their names and that the press published it.

Ta1kinpeace · 23/12/2018 21:16

FFS
This couple had a bucket load of police vans outside their house
hard to cover up
I'll make no assumptions about them
but the police will have had a reason to do that
they will get a free holiday out of it from a tabloid
the drone has been downed
we may never know who was flying it as the stable door is now closed

nickiredcar · 23/12/2018 21:17

Didnt the police name the people themselves?

Cookit · 23/12/2018 21:21

So wait, to shut an a major airport down you don’t even need to fly a drone near it you could just claim you’d seen one? How is anything ever running?

I thought to shut down the airport the police or air traffic control would have actually verified each “sighting”.

nicoala1 · 23/12/2018 21:22

I think something awful happened at Gatwick and we were led down the garden path to prevent panic.

How come Heathrow, Birmingham and all other airports were fine?

Dodgy I think.

Ta1kinpeace · 23/12/2018 21:29

nicoala
I landed there a couple of hours before
I flew over the fields where the drone was being prepared
STOP falling for conspiracies

Airports are REALLY worried about drones
they are REALLY angry that Grayling blocked the rule change
thay are REALLY worred about Brexit
this weekend was the busiest since "no deal" became likely"

add it all up
and folks saw what they thought they saw
AND one of the usual geek drones was seen

No aliens
No spies
No secrecy
Just stress

Wordthe · 23/12/2018 21:34

It's all very Roswell isn't it

Mistigri · 23/12/2018 21:43

What about the damaged drone found?

Drones crash/ go missing quite regularly - it might not be the Gatwick drone.

Espanio · 23/12/2018 21:46

Perhaps it was aliens looking for a place to land

DeepanKrispanEven · 23/12/2018 21:46

Unless they missed work or need counciling I don't know what good compensation will do? Won't affect the police at all

They've been plastered all over the papers with the suggestion that they're morons who ruined Christmas for thousands of people. It doesn't matter whether it affects the police, it tells the papers yet again that they won't get away with behaviour like that. Or don't you think Christopher Jefferies was entitled to compensation?

Grace212 · 23/12/2018 21:54

apologies if this is a stupid question

did the police and airport authorities rely entirely on eye witness reports?

nickiredcar · 23/12/2018 22:13

That was in response to compensation from the police. I don't think they should get any public money.

Christopher jeffrees got far far woorse and it was the newspapers that paid out.

These two haven't been nearly as badly affected, probably because they look normal and ordinary. But yes they could go after the papers, but their payout would only be a fraction of CJ.

Espanio · 23/12/2018 22:30

@Grace212
Yes they did

LonelyandTiredandLow · 23/12/2018 22:40

I have to say i'm confused about the idea they weren't there at all. Surely air traffic controlling rely on sightings and have the tech to seeing something is in theairspace for miles around? Or is it general practice that sightings from the public over ride high tech specialists paid to do this for a living? I know TM finds many jobs unskilled but is Brexit Britain that bad already? Did they (airports) make this all up just to highlight the risks?

nicoala1 · 23/12/2018 23:00

I don't think it was a drone at all.

But that may be taken as me being a conspiracy theorist. Just took so long to sort out really, given all the ordinance and such that MOD has. So am a bit puzzled.

Thankfully no casualties or deaths though.

ChesterGreySideboard · 23/12/2018 23:10

I stupidly assumed that it would be air traffic control or some official type that would say they’ve seen them.

You can’t shut down an airport on the say so of some random people who may or may not have seen something.

Grace212 · 23/12/2018 23:20

Glad I'm not the only one puzzled that it's eyewitness reports....I'm amazed air space can be closed for so long for that.

canigetaliein · 23/12/2018 23:43

I think something awful happened at Gatwick and we were led down the garden path to prevent panic.

Like what though?

So is it official that the drone/drones were spotted only by eye witnesses as oppposed to staff?

nicoala1 · 23/12/2018 23:55

We are so ordered to only take 100mls of liquid in hand luggage, and then this happens.

There is more to this I feel. Could be wrong, but we will never know, will we?

Toomuchgoingon · 24/12/2018 00:49

We were flying to the US in the midst of that. Our plane ended up landing to LHR so we ended up having to grab a taxi to get there in time for the flight. We ended up arriving in the U.S. In the middle of the night but at least we got there rather than some of the cancelled flights. It was chaos.

Oblomov18 · 24/12/2018 09:00

This whole debacle is becoming more and more embarrassing. Everyone must be looking at us and wondering : what are those stupid British up to THIS time?
HmmBlush
