To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

Ah, ok Espanio, thank you.

EleanorTopaz · 23/12/2018 16:48

I suspect that the perpetrators are environmental protesters, probably “trust fund babes” who have the time to devote to this sort of activity. The couple who have now been released did not fit the profile.

rightreckoner · 23/12/2018 16:54

I saw that MOS headline this morning and thought it pretty foolish - as soon as the profile of this couple was made clear it was pretty obviously unlikely to them. MoS must have known that too - but still splashed them over the front page. Reprehensible.

PollyFlinderz · 23/12/2018 17:11

Errol - thank you.

brizzledrizzle · 23/12/2018 18:00

He added there was "always a possibility that there may not have been any genuine drone activity in the first place", but they were working on a range of information from members of the public, police officers and staff working at Gatwick who had reported otherwise.

So actually all this money, disruption and misery (for travellers and the innocent couple) might have been for something which didn't actually exist?

Look in to my eyes. Look in to my eyes. Look in to my eyes.

Whisky2014 · 23/12/2018 18:08

But there was footage wasn't there?

HelenaDove · 23/12/2018 18:24

nickiredcar Why shouldnt they get compensation? Why should there be no consequences for the polices mistake or the press hatchet job.

Agree with the PP who mentioned Christopher Jeffries. Lessons were really learned there Xmas Hmm

Clionba · 23/12/2018 18:40

I've no idea what's going on. If it wasn't this couple, why did the police think it was? If there was no drone activity, what held up the planes?

billysboy · 23/12/2018 18:46

press have learnt fuck all from cliff richard etc

Espanio · 23/12/2018 18:47

How can they arrest someone for something they weren’t even sure happened?!

AutumnCrow · 23/12/2018 18:53

It's all very odd.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 23/12/2018 18:54

So now they say it may not have even happened? What about the damaged drone found? There was a photo floating about taken by a Gatwick worker too. Cover up for sure. They know they won't find the person.

ManicUnicorn · 23/12/2018 19:15

How anyone can say that it isn't a cover up now?!

canigetaliein · 23/12/2018 19:34

all very odd.

why were the couple splashed over the press? they defo deserve compo. It feels like they wanted to satisfy the public with some faces & now it will fade away.

And apparently there might never have been a drone, so how come the high tech anti drone defence they employed couldn’t tell them there was no drone?

Whisky2014 · 23/12/2018 19:37

What a load of shit..cover up for sure

PollyFlinderz · 23/12/2018 19:37

I disagree PollyFlinderz, I expect photos from social media etc to be published once names are given out & people have been charged but the police are able to keep certain names out of the press. I feel they very much wanted it out there so that it looked like they were back in control.

ManicUnicorn · 23/12/2018 19:46

There's are photos of the drone aren't there? I definitely saw them when this all started. Either the police have messed up and they are trying to deflect attention elsewhere (disgraceful but unsurprising), or they don't want us to know whats going on.

Buster72 · 23/12/2018 19:54

Police had a crime and a suspect....arrest is a procedure not a punishment and was justified so they can search the house to find evidence, get an account and proceed That's how they work.

Police don't give out names pre charge.

Neighbours would have shopped this to the media. They could have kept quiet. They behaved deplorable.

Ta1kinpeace · 23/12/2018 19:57

smile
How can there have been 67 seperate witnesses?
link please

thing is that there may have been a drone - in the same way there have been around airports for years
but in the run up to a catastophic Brexit, the UKBA and their ilk are a tad jumpy

NicoAndTheNiners · 23/12/2018 20:00

Said it was aliens!

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 23/12/2018 20:02

Birming airport is closed now.... apparently air traffic control issues. Hmmm.

NicoAndTheNiners · 23/12/2018 20:03

Birmingham have cancelled all flights now due to an issue with air traffic control aliens
