To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

They can be re arrested thought they?Maybe police just dint have enough evidence.

If it's true he took his drone to down the baddie drone how thick can you be? When the army and police are involved dont get involved yourself!

Whisky2014 · 23/12/2018 12:11

It MUST be a higher power...Russia!
Do the police expect us to be ok with what they have done, make a couple of arrests, release them and then just hope everyone forgets? The person who has done this gets away scott free.

ManicUnicorn · 23/12/2018 12:15

The first thing I thought when I saw their photograph was that they didn't seem remotely the kind of people I expected to be responsible. Which is wrong, obviously, but this feels like it was so much more sophisticated than a pair of hobbyists.

Ive read a few theories online, one suggests that it was the police or security services doing it on purpose to prevent a massive terrorist attack that they couldn't stop otherwise. Another that it was trying to deflect from the Brexit mess (which some people picked up on straight away).

It's a bit of a disturbing coincidence that it happened almost thirty years to the day of the Lockerbie bombing as well.

PollyFlinderz · 23/12/2018 12:27

The chief of police has made a statement saying they are confident this couple had nothing to do with the attack.

Wordthe · 23/12/2018 12:28

It's just all well weird innit

Wordthe · 23/12/2018 12:33

I think this has been done to impose a sense of there being a new threat, impending disaster, society unravelling, the authorities powerless to help, the UK looking weak helpless and unprepared

TheQueef · 23/12/2018 12:35

Russia wouldn't show their hand with a stress test. If they were going to do it they would do it properly.
Plus they have their own miltech.

Gotta be some rogue terror/active-ist imo. Seemingly unknown to our defence authorities.

£50k reward is tempting though. (Watch out Carl at number 42 with a drone)

thefinn · 23/12/2018 12:35

Oh so they were innocent. Feel absolutely terrible for them and can't imagine what they are going through right now. I am biased being a part Russian myself and loving the Uk... Any govt is far from perfect and no people are evil always involved in all evil that happens everywhere. Hoping this case gets resolved asap. I wish I had more knowledge. Thanks everyone who have provided me with information on UK legal things. No money would make me being known worldwide for this. My privacy is so important. Poor sods!

Whisky2014 · 23/12/2018 12:48

If they were going to do it they would do it properly Well, they seem to have as it's clear we weren't prepared for it, had no idea how to combat it and we don't know who the fuck did it. I'd say they carried out the task impeccably.

Espanio · 23/12/2018 12:50

Apparently they received a tip off that it was them

Wordthe · 23/12/2018 12:51

A central theme of this incident was that of cocking a snook at the authorities, running rings around the police, laughing at us making us look silly
A prank with a kid's toy and the whole country grinds to a halt

Whisky2014 · 23/12/2018 12:52

I can also imagine the police followed no other leads whilst they were interviewing these two. Just wash hands, case closed..

dapplegrey · 23/12/2018 12:52

Apparently they received a tip off that it was them

Who received the tip off? The police?

Wordthe · 23/12/2018 12:52

And there was also the theme of ruin
Christmas is ruined
holidays are ruined
good times and fun all ruined

Espanio · 23/12/2018 12:53

TheQueef
I am certain this isn’t related to terrorism. I wouldn’t call someone a terrorist for flying a drone over Gatwick airport

Whisky2014 · 23/12/2018 12:54

Espanio...It Is terror just not in the way you've known it for the last few years

Puzzledandpissedoff · 23/12/2018 12:55

Do the police expect us to be ok with what they have done, make a couple of arrests, release them and then just hope everyone forgets?

Yes, that's exactly what they'll expect - and they won't be far wrong

Except for the travellers who've been so horribly affected and the airports who've lost a fortune (and will now have to spend more on prevention) everyone else will have moved on within a few days

I'm not saying that's necessarily right, only that it always happens

nickiredcar · 23/12/2018 12:55

Oh this is embarrassing for the police and military. Gatwick airport are so desperate they are offering 50k if anyone helps find the man/woman involved.

They obviously have no clue.

Have they released why they did arrest these two?

mavisgreen · 23/12/2018 12:55

iiiiikkkuukkkkjj

Espanio · 23/12/2018 12:57

dapplegray

Yes it says on The Telegraph
“It is understood police swooped on the couple's smart detached property in Crawley at around 10pm on Friday evening following a tip off.”

TheQueef · 23/12/2018 12:59

I'm sorry to sound anti Russian (I'm not) Russia don't need to flex like this. They could deploy an offensive EMP to shut down an airport. It doesn't make sense they would fanny around.
They are decisive and severe with their offensive acts.

I don't think it's'our' guys either unless the objective was to create work for themselves cos you can guarantee that anyone with an axe to grind is exploring drones now.

I wonder if it could be some whitehat types like anonymous to highlight the security hole?

LonelyandTiredandLow · 23/12/2018 13:02

It was too high tech IMO to be that couples. The lack of motive was clear too. It will be something to do with Brexit or a far right group annoyed with immigrants. They are the nutrients group we have here in UK and have already shown They are willing to kill. I'd not put it past Russia to have funded it or trained them in some way. I'm doubtful the flyer is local or poss even UK based.

Mymycherrypie · 23/12/2018 13:07

If Elaine ever reads this, a consolation is that not a single person could believe you were 54 Flowers

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/12/2018 13:07

The whole social media naming and shaming lynch mob were totally wrong. Now their lives have been totally turned upside down and possibly ruined.

LonelyandTiredandLow · 23/12/2018 13:08

Nutrients is meant to be nutty. New phone causing chaos closer to home here.
