To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

The expectation (earlier in the thread) that it must be a man, or that it can't have been them because the man was at work for some of the germane times, really shows what women in STEM are up against

I said that because it's the man, alone, who was spotted in a field with a drone 4 miles from Gatwick Airport by a delivery driver.

I await the outcome of this with deep interest.

My internal bias and prejudice thinks the arrested people aren’t responsible. But that’s because they look like nice, normal, middle class types.

I truly wonder if they DID do it what their motivation was? An absolutely epic moment of fucking madness spread over a few days???

SylvanianFamiliesNurserySet · 22/12/2018 20:18

Ha, folie à deux?!

PollyFlinderz · 22/12/2018 20:21

If they’re guilty I think it will indeed have been an epic moment of madness spread over a few days.

IamPickleRick · 22/12/2018 20:49

I think if they did it, it will be one of two reasons. 1) the audacious nature of it. First, I wonder if we could do this thing, then oh wow, we did it, I wonder how long we can keep it going for and then finally, we have the whole of Gatwick in our hands!!!

Or, they just really really wanted a good nights sleep without the planes going over head and finally snapped.

CanuckBC · 22/12/2018 20:49

Just finished reading this. Interesting read with lots of bias and misinformation.

It will be really interesting to see what, if anything happens with the arrests.

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 20:59

You'd think whoever did it would be struggling to sleep, I know I'd be shitting myself every time I heard a car pull up.

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 22/12/2018 21:07

I know where they live and it's not on the flight path, unless there's an aborted landing. It's really not that noisy here, i can only hear the planes in summer when I have the windows open. And they don't fly all through the night anyway.

Welltroddenpath · 22/12/2018 21:09

What if it’s not them? Their personal info is all over the web thanks to FB

PerkingFaintly · 22/12/2018 21:11

Yep, RoseAndRose.

If it had been the woman out at work in a team, everyone would be saying, "Well duh, it was the man was operating the drone in the week." Even if it was the woman seen retrieving it on a Saturday.

Don't know if the arrested folk will turn out to be the culprits, of course.

nickiredcar · 22/12/2018 21:13

But the planes don't fly overnight. Don't they end at 11pm ish?

will it be public knowledge if they are charged?

They left their FB pages open by all accounts and anybody with common sense knows not to have it wide open so I don't think FB can be held responsible. Their personal information was out there before they were arrested for any alleged involvement.

Ta1kinpeace · 22/12/2018 21:31

catsandboots
where do they live relative to the possible second runway turning zone?

Wordthe · 22/12/2018 21:49

This doesn't seem credible to me, the only vaguely plausible explanation is some sort of folie a deux (as mentioned by a previous poster)
Or perhaps they were both on meth?
I don't think it adds up at all

nickiredcar · 22/12/2018 22:00

Haha I love the daily mash. But they have more annoying adverts than mumsnet!

IamPickleRick · 22/12/2018 22:01

Exactly, what’s her alibi for the hours when he was at work? Has her boss come out and said she was at work the whole time? If it was them, it was done in shifts.

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 22:20

@nickiredcar have you seen this offering from the Mash?

topcat2014 · 22/12/2018 22:40

Turns out SIL works with one of the arrested people! Nice as pie apparently.

ChesterGreySideboard · 22/12/2018 22:47

I agree that she doesn’t look the reported age.

We don’t know if it is them yet of course but it is interesting that so many of us, and I include myself, think it can’t be them because they look too nice.

thefinn · 22/12/2018 22:50

If they are guilty I do wish them every misery but my gut feeling says no for the reasons mentioned. And the pictures of the pair of them are headline news even here in northern europe. It's such a shame if they are innocent... have to check my privacy settings again!

nickiredcar · 22/12/2018 23:07

Haha I love that so much, pretend you are in an interactive Mike Leigh Grin

ErrolTheDragon · 22/12/2018 23:32

Somehow I'd have thought that people who could elude police and army for a couple of days while flying a drone would have set the privacy settings on their social media.
