To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

Definitely! Grin

Ta1kinpeace · 22/12/2018 17:01

One neighbour said the guy had a drone so big it had to be put sideways Into a van.
LOL
Most drones have no sideways

drone enthusiasts will also want them (metaphorically) hung drawn and quartered for attracting massive unwanted attention which can only result in tighter legislation
This with bells on

I actually dont understand the releasing of names. What happened to innocent until proven? People might target their house and they havent been charged! Not thats it ok to target their house if they are charged, mind.

Police hunting Gatwick drone terrorists arrest WOMAN – man seen frantically stashing drone

Yet more every day sexism - their capitals not mine - from the gutter press. Presumably they think that she should have been getting ready for Christmas.

borntobequiet · 22/12/2018 17:08

Perhaps the van had to have doors on the side to get the drone in easily. Are these type of doors bigger?

Ta1kinpeace · 22/12/2018 17:10

Whisky
There are police vans outside their house.
Its not possible to keep such things secret.
And TBH the names also protect other people from the baying mob.

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 17:13

I feel sorry for any children they have, regardless of whether they are guilty or innocent, it's awful for children to go through this.

Whisky2014 · 22/12/2018 17:16

Yeh locally people may know but did it have to be announced so publicly?

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 17:17

As long as it doesn't prejudice the trial I can't get bothered about it TBH.

nicoala1 · 22/12/2018 17:25

If true, what utter idiots.

But then again, tin foil hat on, they may be paid millions to take the rap for something else that happened. Yee Haw. I wouldn't rule anything in or out at this stage, given the length of time it took to "find them".

UK is the laughing stock of the world. This and Brexit. WTAF?

Next thing is another group will do the same thing at other airports now. Hopefully not, but you can understand the concern now.

The photos of the couple in the Daily Mail (I know, I know) seem odd to me
There are photos of them socialising and there’s also a photo of them in their wedding day
How did the press manage to get those so quickly?

HowlsMovingBungalow · 22/12/2018 17:46

The press love a bit of facebook digging.

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 17:46

How did the press manage to get those so quickly?

The most likely answer is that they don't have their Facebook security settings properly set and have made their photos public either on purpose or accidentally.

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 17:47

Xpost. Howls is right. It's a popular pastime.

Ta1kinpeace · 22/12/2018 17:50

Nanasue
His Facebook profile pictures are public
and he's not got his phone at the moment to delete them Xmas Grin

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 22/12/2018 17:50

Whilst there's not much to amuse about this story (all those poor people whose travel plans are ruined!), I did raise a grin when the DM reported that a man in a hi-viz jacket was seen in a field, bundling a drone into a bag.
Who the fuck wears a hi-viz jacket when on such a mission?

brizzledrizzle · 22/12/2018 17:51

Who the fuck wears a hi-viz jacket when on such a mission?

Somebody pretending to be airport ground crew - hiding in plain sight?

PoisonousSmurf · 22/12/2018 17:55

Put some stocks in LGW and a nice supply of rotten squishy veg/fruit.
Passengers can chuck stuff at them.

PerkingFaintly · 22/12/2018 18:15

I so want this bit to be true.Grin

HowlsMovingBungalow · 22/12/2018 18:17

On the stereotype theme that this thread seems to bang on about ... the couple in the Daily Fail article don't seem to be the atypical grungy eco warriors - Nimby maybe?

Bet down the local that went proper tits up?

PollyFlinderz · 22/12/2018 18:21

The mans boss has said he was at work everyday last week and was part of a 3 man team.

WickedGoodDoge · 22/12/2018 18:26

Quick OT post to thank @Whisky2014 and @recent for encouraging me to not cancel my 24 hour trip with DD to London. Flew down yesterday morning and am now sitting in a rather calm Gatwick Airport waiting for our flight home- no expected delays and we had a super trip.

Hopefully everyone who was affected by cancellations has either been put on alternative flights or will be shortly!

GaryBaldbiscuit · 22/12/2018 18:39

are the drones registered? I wonder if it was stolen and used but still in their name?

GaryBaldbiscuit · 22/12/2018 18:45
