To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

Reports I'm reading now say operations suspended again in LGW due to further drone sightings.

Has anyone else seen this?

dingit · 21/12/2018 17:50

Something doesn't add up. The drone was sighted at 17.10 according to BBC. The last flights in and out were at 16.54 and 16.59. I thought planes landed every few minutes? Or am I just being dim? I'm sure someone will tell me.

Augusta2012 · 21/12/2018 17:51

Yes, completely contrary to the basic laws of Physics confused. I wonder why the person who posted that doesn’t think we have free, limitless energy.... a sad indictment of our education system.*

Drones which can recharge from solar energy while idle already exist.

If you’re going to be a dickhead then at least make sure you’re right.

Ta1kinpeace · 21/12/2018 17:51

@wordthe
Heliguy are a perfectly reputable site. And very friendly
Alternatively look up DJI Mavic 2 pro

HowlsMovingBungalow · 21/12/2018 17:52

They have probably told the planes to circle until the skies are clear? I'm no aviation expert.

Starting to get Hmm about it all.Doesn't add up.

StealthPolarBear · 21/12/2018 17:52

Yes flights suspended again

SlowNorris · 21/12/2018 17:52

Maybe they’re testing the reaction of the public to flights being grounded in anticipation of a no deal Brexit.

Then they can say ‘yeah it’s a pain but remember Christmas at Gatwick? At least we have no drones this time’.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 21/12/2018 17:52

add up

JustLurkingAway · 21/12/2018 17:53

WB700 on flight radar, so many circles!

PoliticalBiscuit · 21/12/2018 17:55

Drone operator has got to be a total cunt to start it up again. People are missing funerals, last Christmas with dying relatives, trips of a lifetime, all sorts. i just genuinely can't understand what thoughts are going on in their head.

PestoSurfissimos · 21/12/2018 17:55

LGW’s not letting planes land atm, they’re diverting. Poor Air Transat re-positioning from Glasgow’s been going round in the stack 5 times so far.

PestoSurfissimos · 21/12/2018 17:56

Sorry, Westjet not Air Transat.

Spaghettibol · 21/12/2018 17:59

I really hope this is done by someone who lives locally to prove a point.
Forget the people who are missing holidays !
The people that live in the community around Gatwick Airport have to put up with all the noise and congestion day in and day out

PestoSurfissimos · 21/12/2018 17:59

Most of them seem to be diverting to Luton currently.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 21/12/2018 18:00

Take it you don't ever fly then ^

Notonaschoolnight · 21/12/2018 18:02

Hi someone mentioned above that Heathrow have systems that Gatwick doesn’t have, could you tell me more?

I’m flying Newcastle to Heathrow to JFK on Xmas eve and I’m starting to wonder if it could happen to me mainly as with all our national public transport coming to a standstill on Xmas day how on earth would we get home!!

3luckystars · 21/12/2018 18:04

@Spaghettibol, the people living near Gatwick bought a house beside an airport.

PestoSurfissimos · 21/12/2018 18:05

Westjet’s given up hoping for clearance into Gatwick, has left the stack.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 21/12/2018 18:06

No more flights out tonight BBC say.

Polarbearflavour · 21/12/2018 18:07

I feel really sorry for the frontline airport staff dealing with the abuse.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 21/12/2018 18:08

Feel for everyone stuck in this shitshow.

Oakenbeach · 21/12/2018 18:08

Drones which can recharge from solar energy while idle already exist. If you’re going to be a dickhead then at least make sure you’re right.

Recharging from solar energy wouldn’t be “self-recharging”... and besides, solar charging on a grey December day would be quite a feat!

Ta1kinpeace · 21/12/2018 18:13

Oakenbeach
especially as the trickle recharge time for those batteries is several hours off the mains

panels to do it would be the size of a house
even at latitudes lower than 51
