To wonder about a few things with the LGW drone attack

Before I get flamed (and not that anyone will resist flaming if they want to anyway). I know-

-It's not that easy
-Safety First
-People are doing their best

But I can't help wondering and idly speculating about why -

We apparently don't have any counter measures for this.
It can go on so long
We aren't seeing any News footage of the drone(s)

I am 100% NOT a conspiracy theorist but I am very curious about exactly what is going on.

Whatever happened it was covered up by so called drones. LOL

I doubt it was that. All seems quiet now, so why not solve it day one.

Ta1kinpeace · 21/12/2018 16:41

softpebbles
I know that there are some very good drone shield products out there
but many are not suitable for a large commercial airport

drones are great fun
but Easyjet should probably not be selling them through their in flight magazine Xmas Grin

happychange · 21/12/2018 16:48

@Spaghettibol no can you share the link? Guess it's a spoof?

ErrolTheDragon · 21/12/2018 16:57

Drones can certainly be useful (Eg for checking power lines), but the only ones I've seen (and heard) being used for fun were bloody annoying for everyone else. Hmm An inconsiderate prat flying his over what should have been peaceful hill country is when I first wanted a giant fly swat.

Wordthe · 21/12/2018 17:00

whatever they did to solve the issue why the fuck did it take them so long???

Ta1kinpeace · 21/12/2018 17:04

whatever they did to solve the issue why the fuck did it take them so long???
Because securing the massive perimeter area (many, many square miles)
without interfering with the legitimate business of the airport
is not an easy task

YES
Gatwick should have had systems brought in when Heathrow did
YES
Airports should have focused on this after the multiple incidents over the summer
BUT
The transport secretary is the most incompetent minister in the cabinet
AND
they are all rather obsessed with Brexit rather than keeping the country going

magimedi · 21/12/2018 17:14

they are all rather obsessed with Brexit rather than keeping the country going.

Great cartoon in today's Times.

nicoala1 · 21/12/2018 17:17

Ah never mind, Drones will get our exports out, and our imports in post Brexit. No queuing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/12/2018 17:20

It wasn't nearly three days! First report was Wednesday night, army bought in and last sighting of a drone thursday night.

Augusta2012 · 21/12/2018 17:26

Ta1kinpeace, you’re quite wrong with some of the things you’ve said on here. You have been working from the assumption that the drone is a commercial one which has been bought. Everything I have read suggests that this was a purpose built drone with customised features deliberately designed to overcome airport security measures. It seems to be working on some sort of modulating frequency so it can’t be blocked and possibly has some form of self charging equipment.

I’ve worked quite closely with professors working on the development of drones and everything I’m seeing indicates this is a specialist craft built specifically for this purpose.

It’s got as much in common with model aircrafts or shop bought drones as lions do with kittens.

dingit · 21/12/2018 17:28

It's started again

hmmhohmmm · 21/12/2018 17:29

The drones have??

dingit · 21/12/2018 17:30

Yes just came up BBC breaking news

Terfing · 21/12/2018 17:30

What a bunch of wankers if they have started again.

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 21/12/2018 17:31

have they? thought they might somehow.....

Wordthe · 21/12/2018 17:32

viewed from any angle it just looks very fishy and absolutely ripe for conspiracy theorizing

I sill think it was aliens, or modern day pagans with drones for broomsticks playing games to celebrate the winter solstice, wait for the finale at 10:23 tonight

brizzledrizzle · 21/12/2018 17:32

yes me too. Cunts.

TheQueef · 21/12/2018 17:35

That airport must be murder.
So many civilians financially affected too.

ImmortalityMyDarlings · 21/12/2018 17:36

www.flightradar24.com/airport/lgw/ Follow here. Many flights circling nearby. Poor fuckers. At least some got away...

NotCitrus · 21/12/2018 17:36

How difficult would it be to build, though Augusta? Within the capacity of a dedicated undergrad with decent coding and engineering skills, or would it take a national expert?

Ta1kinpeace · 21/12/2018 17:37

Augusta
It seems to be working on some sort of modulating frequency so it can’t be blocked
Even the cheap ones do that. Its called frequency hopping.
Yes of course its a customised drone - but it will be based on a standard 50cm quadcopter
that has had the exclusion zone software hacked.

possibly has some form of self charging equipment.
That is contrary to the laws of physics.

The batteries run for around half an hour
but in high end drones can be swapped in seconds
by lowering it down to the control vehicle and back up again

Terfing · 21/12/2018 17:39

Hopefully it's a false sighting. Those poor people. Xmas Sad

Oakenbeach · 21/12/2018 17:40

possibly has some form of self charging equipment.

That is contrary to the laws of physics.

Yes, completely contrary to the basic laws of Physics Confused. I wonder why the person who posted that doesn’t think we have free, limitless energy.... a sad indictment of our education system.

colouringinpro · 21/12/2018 17:43

Crazy conspiracy theory alert!

But I do find it interesting that this has coincided with Putin's "advice" to May to carry on with Brexit.... could this be a "see what I can do" gesture?!

(Watched too much Spooks)

HowlsMovingBungalow · 21/12/2018 17:45

It is a fucking joke if there is another drone...

What are the military doing ? We can take out the middle east but not a drone?
