Just wondering if anybody gets a Christmas gift from their (very well paid) manager? I go above and beyond and have saved managers arse so many times....never get a thing. Maybe he should get me a mug, cuz that’s what I am!

Mine wouldn't piss on me if I went on fire.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 01/12/2018 18:10

I always get gifts for my team - usually just chocolates. But none of my manager colleagues do. I find it odd.

Thehop · 01/12/2018 18:10

Mine bought us tickets to a musical this year and jewellery last year

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 01/12/2018 18:11

Yes, and I get her a gift too. We get on really well.

Angrybird345 · 01/12/2018 18:12

Thehop - nice, wish I was you!!

No, I have never had a gift from a manager, either the crap ones or the fantastic ones.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 01/12/2018 18:12

DH doesnt get gifts for the people he manages.... he can’t afford to buy gifts for 100 people.

Kerberos · 01/12/2018 18:13

I did last year - and they got one for me too :)

woodwaj · 01/12/2018 18:14

Yes our manager gets us a gift and she get a one large one from us all!

topcat2014 · 01/12/2018 18:14

I have got my staff "vintage style" chocolates from Burford garden centre this year.

I also get easter eggs for the whole office.

In a previous life, other managers came in worried they had missed out on some "company" memo. They scuttled away when I told them I had paid with my own money :)

luckylavender · 01/12/2018 18:14

My manager & I exchange gifts & I give gifts to my Team Leaders.

patientzero · 01/12/2018 18:16

Mine used to but now they manage a much larger team so they don’t any more.

I buy for my small team - only some chocolates like as I’m definitely not well paid!

Popskipiekin · 01/12/2018 18:16

He tends to take us out to a meal instead. We club together to get him something, usually along lines of nice bottle of port/whisky.

Notquiteagandt · 01/12/2018 18:17

Yes. Never had a boss who hasnt. Everything from bottle of good champagne to theatre tickets.

I think its important to be apreciated.

NaToth · 01/12/2018 18:18

Nada, not a sausage here.

We go out for a meal, which we pay for ourselves, but our manager doesn't even buy a round of drinks (team of 15 or so, some of whom are minimum wage and PT)

Gazelda · 01/12/2018 18:18

Mine usually gets us a soap and glory set.

TrickyLicky · 01/12/2018 18:18

I'm a manager and always get a gift for each member of my team. They work hard all year and it's just a way to show gratitude. They club together to buy me one bigger one from them all.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 01/12/2018 18:18

I’ve just moved depts and have bought small presents for all 45 people in my old dept. I love buying gifts, and the people were all so lovely. Sorry, that sounds like showing off, but I am always mystified why my often much wealthier colleagues don’t want to express their thanks to their hard working teams. It is the thought that counts, and managers should remember their staff at Christmas in my view, even if it just comes to a couple of pounds per person if there are too many to be more generous.

Lightsong · 01/12/2018 18:19

My manager gets us all a smelly set, using his company credit card 🤔

Itsyersel · 01/12/2018 18:22

@BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou
Worst "My husband is so important" reply ever!

NeedMoreSleepOrSugar · 01/12/2018 18:22

I always do, something small for everyone plus something larger for those I'm directly managing. Most of my managers have bought me something too.

Must admit though that I'm struggling this year as one of the people I'm directly managing is worse than useless - I don't want to (and won't) make a difference between them and others at the same level, but it's definitely going to stick in my throat giving it!

RosemarysBush · 01/12/2018 18:23

Nope. Have worked in 8 different jobs and only had a gift in one, in 1998. We all got a lavender scented microwave heat/wheat bag which I still use.

ChocolateChipMuffin2016 · 01/12/2018 18:24

My boss does, almost every boss I’ve has done.
We normally get a bottle of something, processco or champagne, I’ve brought the team advent calendars before (and I’m not a manager, I just thought it was a nice thing to do), when I had more disposable income (before DC!).

crosser62 · 01/12/2018 18:24

LOL as an NHS employee, it appears that I have umteen managers.. I could really do well if they all bought me a present..but they don’t.
I work Christmas Day and.... nothing, not even a thanks.

NoraEphronsneck · 01/12/2018 18:25

I used to get reasonable gift, to the value of approx £30 - this is relevant.

That is until I cut my hours to do a job-share, at which point he explained as he handed over a £10 gift voucher that it was less than usual as he now had to buy for 2 people!

It was the most ungracious present I'd ever been given, and this from a man earning 200k.

It was crystal clear to me how little he valued my role so I pre-empted it the following year by telling him not to buy for me anymore.

I also, however, stopped all the unpaid overtime I used to do Wink
