To report friend to police......

Exactly that.
Would you? Wouldn’t you?
Does it depend on the crime/activity?
What would you turn a blind eye to and what wouldn’t you be able to ignore?

Are you thinking about reporting a friend?

Weetabixandshreddies · 27/11/2018 18:47

Depends on what they had done.

I wouldn't not report just because they were a friend though.

PepsiLola · 27/11/2018 18:47

Really depends on what the crime is they have commited

mumof2sarah · 27/11/2018 18:49

Depends on the crime tbh x

ClaryFray · 27/11/2018 18:50

Depends on the crime.

Petty theft - probably not.
Stealing from old people - yes.
Selling drugs - probably not.
Selling drugs to kids - all the yes.

whatsthepointthen · 27/11/2018 18:52

depends probably not
though

Sparklesocks · 27/11/2018 18:52

Not enough context to say.

Completely depends on the specific crime and the circumstances.

I.e I would report a friend who beat her husband.

But I wouldn’t report her for assault if she was a victim of domestic violence, and she fought back.

BarbarianMum · 27/11/2018 18:53

Um, of course it depends on the crime. And how sure I was of my facts.

For doing 32 in a 30 mile zone? No, I'd tell them to slow down. Rape and double murder? Assault? Badger baiting? Child cruelty? Burglary? Hell yes.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 27/11/2018 18:53

In my job I wouldn't be able to pass information to the police unless someone was in danger of physical harm.
I think that's a pretty good rule of thumb for out of work as well.
I wouldn't be grassing someone up for benefit fraud or shoplifting.

GeneralBallAche · 27/11/2018 18:53

Stealing bread to feed her kids? No.

Stealing cars to feed her designer handbag habit? mmm probably.

garethsouthgatesmrs · 27/11/2018 18:59

ClaryFray you wouldnt report a drugdealer?

I would report a friend for any crime with an identifiable victim. What i mean by that is if a person is directly hurt or in danger. I wouldn't report insurance fraud for exmple even though i accept we are all victims financially there is no single person who has been directly negatively impacted. I would report a drug dealer if i had evidence. They wouldnt be my friend though.

pictish · 27/11/2018 19:16

What a meaningless question.

ElideLochan · 27/11/2018 19:18

Shoplifted a mars bar 35 years ago? No
Mugged the local vicar last week? Yes

HTH

ILoveHumanity · 27/11/2018 19:18

Yh really depends.

If reporting them help someone who is being harmed then yes I would.

If reporting them helps stopping them from leading a disastrous life then also yes I would.

Would probably protect my anonymity though. Unless it was a case of, obviously criminal and “tough love, you know that’s in ur best interest”.

But u need to be sure of the facts and interpretation of events first

RomanyRoots · 27/11/2018 19:20

Do you have a friend who has done something illegal OP
or is your first post for an article.

whatsthepointthen · 27/11/2018 19:21

its obviously meaningless and op wants to jusy get everyone asking what it is orherwise would have been put in the op.

gamerwidow · 27/11/2018 19:23

I don’t think I would report for anything other than violent crime or if they committed a crime against me.
Hard to know though without knowing full circumstances.

Rudgie47 · 27/11/2018 19:24

It would depend on what it was, if it was a minor thing no and the Police wouldn't be interested anyway.
I had some information on a murder and my friend was saying don't go to the Police etc. I did because the man didn't deserve to die and the woman I reported it to was the head of the investigation and didn't appear to believe me. Its still unsolved and is brought up from time to time on the news etc.

foxyloxy78 · 27/11/2018 19:25

What have they done?

It is all contextual.
I might not but it would depend on the crime. I have not reported domestic abuse because it wasn’t what the victim wanted.

ReanimatedSGB · 27/11/2018 19:43

This is a classic stupid question which no one with an ounce of sense can answer without proper context.
Some crimes are victimless
Some are committed out of desperation.
Some laws are unethical and should be broken at every opportunity, and those who break them should be applauded.

InspectorIkmen · 27/11/2018 19:46

What is this? A genuine question or some half cock way to conduct a real time opinion poll?
Hmm

HoleyCoMoley · 27/11/2018 19:46

What would you do OP

LeilaDarling · 27/11/2018 19:49

Not sure why my question has been deemed “stupid” or “meaningless”.
Thank you to those that have replied in a decent fashion.
I’m quite surprised how unpleasant a couple of you seem.
I am keeping it simple and vague for a reason.
It was my first post and will prob be my last!
