To report friend to police......

Exactly that.
Would you? Wouldn’t you?
Does it depend on the crime/activity?
What would you turn a blind eye to and what wouldn’t you be able to ignore?

I would speak to Crimestoppers and keep your distance. Awful situation to be in. I'm sorry.

purplecorkheart · 27/11/2018 22:47

Not UK so never thought of crimestoppers but they sound like the ideal first move. I would not alert this friend tbh.

LeilaDarling · 27/11/2018 22:51

Thank you sunburstandmarblehalls. Great advice x

I really would not get involved with calling banks or doing any sleuthing yourself. Keep yourself safe and anonymous, and in control of what you do, and how much you get involved. Con men are not nice people.

martinidry · 27/11/2018 23:05

Report him, of course you report him. Would you like someone to defraud you? Would you like their friend to know but to look the other way when they are defrauding you?
I cannot believe those people who are saying that they would not report this. This makes them as bad as the defrauder.

MoveOnTheCards · 28/11/2018 05:42

I would report him for this. Having to potentially face him in court (as a pp suggested may be an outcome) wouldn’t worry me, I would consider the friendship over already based on the fact they’re a conniving shit who is happily conning a woman out of thousands of pounds.

papayya · 28/11/2018 05:48

I would report

SwearySwearyQuiteContrary · 28/11/2018 05:51

Report this. Definitely.

Monty27 · 28/11/2018 06:03

I'd probably knock him out
Tell the woman and never speak to the devil's spawn again. cunt

NotyourMummynotyourmilk · 28/11/2018 06:08

I would report a friend, yes. I could turn a blind eye to him/her stealing milk/nappies or food from a shop in desperation. I could never turn a blind eye to sexual offences/ getting in a car to drive it whilst drunk etc etc

gamerwidow · 28/11/2018 06:20

I think that’s hard to report not because you shouldn’t but because you don’t really have enough evidence for the police. I couldn’t carry on being friends with someone who has done that though so you’re right to distance yourself.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 28/11/2018 06:42

Absolutely I'd report...he's a conman

Although whether they could do much without details of the woman?

Also selfishly I'd be concerned at being acessory...

SummerGems · 28/11/2018 06:54

You should speak to action fraud. However, with no evidence there is very little they will be able to do, but speak to them to see if there is anything that can be done to stop this.

The woman however has given him the money willingly, so although technically she is a victim, she won’t see any of the money again. Unfortunately your friend is just one of millions of people out there obtaining money in this way, and there are unfortunately too many gullible people out there prepared to give it to them.

The woman has been conned, but really anyone should have their head read who is prepared to hand over 30 grand to a complete stranger on the internet.

needsahouseboy · 28/11/2018 07:15

Yes he's a conman. No way would I watch as he stole money from another person. What a vile man he is!

itbemay · 28/11/2018 07:56

Yes report him. Put yourself in that woman's shoes

Undercoverbanana · 28/11/2018 08:22

What an awful person he must be.

Report immediately.

BulletWithABun · 28/11/2018 10:10

I would report him.

recklessruby · 28/11/2018 11:13

Yes I d report that. I m always reading magazine stories of women being fleeced of money on the internet by men like this. They end up broken and ashamed especially if she thinks they are in some sort of relationship.
Just because it's online doesn't mean the victims aren't real people with real lives.
Your friend is at best immoral and at worst committing fraud for financial gain.
Report him.

Lovemusic33 · 28/11/2018 15:24

I would report him an unfriendly him, what a horrible person, he deserves everything he gets and more when the police get hold of him. This is a serious crime, fraud is pretty serious and can end with a long prison sentence.

Coronapop · 28/11/2018 15:41

I would report him for that, but without knowing who the victim is the police may not be able to get far with investigating.
