To be angry and feel the Scottish Gov’s Twitter header is an attack on women?

i’d like them to clarify exactly what their definition of “transphobic” is because it seems to have become a slur these days often aimed at anyone but mostly women who are critical of or question in any way the recent upsurge of identity politics. I just feel they’re doing a knee jerk, ignorant, unnecessary huge fuck you to women.

I said I'm only my biology anyway.
I'm nothing else.

Ereshkigal · 04/12/2018 18:18

We can be other things. We can be nice, clever, or rocket scientists

This is the problem. A biologically essentialist view that being a human female means you have to conform to stereotypes and social expectations. That you have to be nice, while male people can be assertive and get what they want. But can't allow themselves to cry in public.

Self expression is something else entirely.

It's gender ideology in all its forms that is regressive, not biological reality.

BarbarianMum · 04/12/2018 18:18

I'm more than my biology but the thing that makes me a woman, that give me a shared experience with other women, is my biology, and the consequences of that when living in a patriarchy. Then yes, there's a whole lot else to me but it's not sex specific.

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/12/2018 18:19

Oh Verbeena countless posters have spent countless hours explaining this to you.

Sorry, did I woman wrong again?
Dammit.
As I said, I'm only my biology.

Hyppolyta · 04/12/2018 18:20

Verbeena you are also a MNetter...
Because you use mumsnet.

See how it works?

Ereshkigal · 04/12/2018 18:21

Like we aren't used to dealing with people's dull and unimaginative straw men on FWR.

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/12/2018 18:23

It's literally what the identikit threads say. You woman, defined by your biology.
It isn't a straw man but I'm not surprised in the slightest that you can't see that.

Hyppolyta · 04/12/2018 18:25

Whether or not you are a woman is defined by biology, yes.

You seem strangely attatched tothe idea that means we are only biology.

Why is that?

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/12/2018 18:27

Because it's the only way you can answer. Which is why I keep repeating it as it's the answer you want to hear.

Datun · 04/12/2018 18:28

Biology is the is the point of difference between men and women.

Not the totality of what a woman is.

Hyppolyta · 04/12/2018 18:31

So no matter what we say, you will just continually repeat your mantra and claim we said it? Grin

OkieDokie.

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/12/2018 18:32

Well yeah, because if you could be bothered to read the other threads you'd see exactly why people don't engage.

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/12/2018 18:33

It's literally there. It's really not hard.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 04/12/2018 18:33

Can we just ignore anyone who winds us up please

Its just getting silly and i mean for both GC womyn and non GC women

Sorry, dont mean to police the thread but it was quite an interesting read and now some people are just derailing

And i say that as someone who usually loves to join in with a derailment Grin

TheDarkPassenger · 04/12/2018 18:35

*For most of us, it’s pretty clear.

What counts as discriminatory or prejudiced? Not believing black people are equal? Not believing in black talent? Not wanting to fuck black people? believing in racial stereotypes? Believing in genetic differences between races? I wish the Scottish Government would clarify these actions or ideas.

See how obvious is it when your words are in reference to a less acceptable prejudice? See how you’re just as righteous and exasperated and indignant and self-assured as racists of 50 years ago?

No, of course you don’t. Because you can’t see outside of your own prejudice, and you’re utterly incapable of seeing that it’s the exact same bigotry. But racists also believe their prejudices are supported by fact. They also believe they’re under threat from people of other races. They also think they’re fighting on the side of science and decency. You will never be able to admit it, but you are cut from the same cloth.*

Beautiful words. This.

Hyppolyta · 04/12/2018 18:41

As has already been pointed out, that quote is not comparable at all, its just racist tripe.

No one has said transpeople are not equal.
We said males are not women.
Just like white people are not black.

Finally, not wanting to fuck black peopke, or white people, or any people is fine.
Forcing someone to is rape.

RatRolyPoly · 04/12/2018 18:41

Jeez, not everything's about YOU, guys!

A header crops up with the word "transphobes" in it and you get all, "What About The Women?", and "trans people can be awful people too!".

Can't this just be exactly as it appears to be? A statement calling out the hate crime of transphobia? Seems like the most likely explanation given the poster it's taken from.

Seriously, some people are so consumed by the idea of themselves as women on the front line fighting the advance of the shadowy "trans people", they forget the rest of us don't think we're at war.

Hyppolyta · 04/12/2018 18:45

I cant speak for everyone, but Im fighting the advance of males trying to remove our spaces and calling us transphobic when we complain.

I agree in a way Rat, any transphobia here is quickly removed. There is no transphobia here. Yet we see it as a personal attack becuase saying a transwomen is male is so often, wrongly, called transphobic.

VerbeenaBeeks · 04/12/2018 18:47

Jeez, not everything's about YOU, guys! A header crops up with the word "transphobes" in it and you get all, "What About The Women?", and "trans people can be awful people too!"

Exactly! It's one poster for Twitter, calling out something that is a problem on there.
One of a range of posters dealing with hate, seeing as Twitter's recently cracking down on it it makes sense that that's a topical one to use.
Other posters are used too for racism, homophobia etc.
Stands to reason one used on a Twitter account will be used if it's one they're experiencing a problem with.

A few weeks after a man in Scotland was found with over 700 000 images of children being sexually abused, Scotland governement choose to speak out about abuse.

Would that be children being abused?

Nope. Nor homophobia, nor race crimes, nor the hundreds of thousands of rapes commited by males, not the hundreds of women murdered by males each year.

No other type of crime has been highlighted in this way. Ask yourself why.

NothingOnTellyAgain · 04/12/2018 19:20

Just catching up. I thought that the scottish govt have reinterpreted the equalities act and changed "sex" to "gender" and therefore there is no protection for women / girls in scotland any more (cunty varieyt). Have I got that wrong? I hope so :)

Someone flagged "misogyny as a hate crime" earlier on the thread as example that scot govt care about women and girls >> no sorry this refers to gender as well and so is not interested in anything that happens to women girls because of their sex (so most issues TBH).

"But I can tell you that, as far as I'm aware, in the whole of Scotland, none of the centres has been run by anything other than female born women. "

Give it time!

lol not lol

NothingOnTellyAgain · 04/12/2018 19:27

Still catching up

Just remembered the scottish equality impact assessment around putting transwomen in with women on a self ID basis

Under protected charagteristic of sex (for some reason not changed?) they had written NONE.

Yes that's right, putting bedicked rapists in a womens prison, no consideration is necessary on whether there is any impact on the women.

you couldn't make it up/
